Two Worlds
They Are Perfect
When Kalico mentioned that tomorrow was going to be the day we get looked over by different foster families just made me angrier than the fight I had with that bitch. We all know that we get overlooked by everyone that comes into this place and if we were to get separated...oh man I don't know what I would do. I think I might leave the foster home and track down my sisters and convince them that we are better off on our own somehow. I laid down in bed staring up at the ceiling not wanting to close my eyes because I knew my nightmares would come to me but with my thoughts running wild about the day, I couldn't keep them from closing.

For the past week and a half the director of The East Side Children's Home has been faxing me over pictures and a few details about potential children for me to see if I'd be interested in fostering. There were a lot of them I would love to foster but with their history at TESCH, I don't think it would be right to place them with me or even Jimmy. Hell not even to be around the rest of us. I've fostered a lot of children over the years and most of them I was able to help but some just refused to be helped but I never give up on the young people who I foster.
I stick with them and try to get them to open up to me but...sometimes it doesn't work. I remember a child that I took care of...she had to be at least 15 or maybe 16 years old. She never talked because of...well that's privileged information but to make a long story short, she ended up hanging herself from the tree in our yard. My wife Val was the one who found her strung up by the neck but when she called for the ambulance it was already too late to save her.
Anyways, I did find 3 girls interesting and I think I'll give them a try. Jimmy had already picked out the girl named Kalico to foster because he said he loved the name. Leana was thrilled right down to her bones and wanted to meet the young girl as soon as possible. I took the pictures and information on Brandy Young and Violet Newman and decided now would be the perfect time to approach Val and see what she thought. I walked into the kitchen as Val was setting the table for dinner and she smiled over at me as I set the files on the table and grabbed me a beer from the fridge.
"What are those files honey?"
"I found 2 girls I know we could do some help in fostering them. I just wanted you to take a look and let me know what you think." I said sitting down at the table with her. She took the files from me and started with Brandy's. I could see the smile forming onto her face as she read through the information on both of the girls and I knew exactly what that smile meant.
"Matt, I think these are the 2 girls for us. They'll need a lot of patience but I think we could help them."
"You really think so? I mean I showed them to Jimmy and he picked out one of the other girls I had...a Kalico Holt. Leana already wants to meet her and get her into their home." I said grinning and Val reached over and grabbed my hand.
"Babe, this is exactly what I need. I need to feel like I've helped someone since our last girl committed suicide. Besides, it says in the file that Violet, Brandy, and Kalico have been there the same amount of time and are now best friends and I sure as hell don't want to break up these guys. That would be like splitting up you boys. I would never be able to live with that."
"I knew you would say that. That's why I had arranged for Jason and Matt Berry to go to the children's home and pick them up in 3 days while we sign these papers." I said going through the files and pulling out the necessary papers to sign. She smiled sweetly at me and got up from the table and grabbed a pen from the drawer and came back over and immediately started signing the papers. I signed my name to them as well and put them back into the folder so I could fax them first thing in the morning. Now I'm starting to feel like Leana in wanting them to be here as quickly as possible so I could meet them and start on helping them right away.
