We were all having a good time, laughing and drinking, the food wasn’t done yet but it would be soon. Right now I was talking to Matt and watching Abby as her and Zack played chicken in the pool with Jimmy and Johnny, Abby and Zack were winning until Jimmy kicked Zack’s leg and made him fall over. Abby came back up for air and spit water in Jimmy’s face, I laughed at them then looked over at Matt as he started talking again

‘so, has she gotten sad yet?’ he asked I shrugged, I had told him about last night and how Abby was all upset ‘I don’t think so, it looks like she’s having a great time’ I said as I motioned over to her ‘yeah’ he nodded and I smiled when she waved at me, I waved back and then she was tackled by Zack ‘alright, foods done’ Matt called and everyone hopped out of the pool and walked over to us. Abby was absolutely beautiful in her white bikini, thank god it didn’t show anything, but she still looked amazing.

I handed her a plate and she got a hamburger and some fries, a drink out of the cooler then walked over to the big round table and sat in the shade, I followed her actions and sat next to her. She was putting cheese, pickles and ketchup on her burger when I sat down, I smiled at her then leaned over and kissed her cheek ‘what’s that for?’ she asked and I shrugged ‘because I can!’ I said happily and she giggled then kissed my cheek also.

‘Your daughter is a cheater!’ Jimmy whined and I laughed ‘how is she a cheater?’ ‘I don’t know but she is!’ he said loudly and everyone laughed. ‘at least I didn’t kick Zack and make both of us fall’ she said and he glared at her playfully, she stuck her tongue out then giggled when he did the same back. ‘and we were winning to!’ Zack whined, I laughed and shook my head

‘ok so seriously, when’s your birthday party and what are we doing!’ Johnny asked and Abby looked at me ‘well her birthday’s on Halloween so were gonna have a small costume party at the house’ ‘ohh that sounds fun!’ Val said excitedly and I nodded, ‘I had to pull her arm to get her to agree with me’ I said and I saw Abby roll her eyes a little but she still had a smile on her face, we just talked about random things after that and then everyone except Abby and I got drunk ‘can we go home daddy?’ she asked pulling on my arm a little, I nodded and stood up ‘alright guys, were gonna go home’ I said and everyone pouted then hugged us and we left.

When we got back to the house it was dark and Abby went to go shower and change, I stayed downstairs because I didn’t get in the pool so I didn’t have to change ‘DADDY!’ I heard Abby scream so I ran up the steps as fast I could and ran into her room ‘what is it baby? What happened?’ I asked breathlessly as I got to her, she was in her robe so apparently she was about to shower ‘in the bathroom, in the tub’ she cried and put her hands over her face, I walked in there and looked in the tub.

There was a dead rabbit and maggots in there ‘oh my god’ I whispered then walked out and shut the door, Abby was on the floor by her bad with her knees to her chest, I went over to her and held her in my arms ‘who would do that’ she cried and I just shook my head ‘I don’t know baby but why don’t you get dressed and I’ll call the police ok?’ I said and she nodded, I stood up then helped her up, she walked into her closet and got dressed then walked back over to me and latched onto my side. I wrapped my arm around her shoulders and we walked down to the living room, I sat her on the couch then called the police, they said they’d be there in five minutes.

There was a loud knocking on the door so I got up and went to go open it ‘Mr. Haner?’ ‘yes’ ‘I'm officer Collins, this is my partner officer Beck and this is Mr. Roads, he’s going to be cleaning up the things in your daughters bathroom and take them in as evidence’ ‘please come in’ I said and opened the door all the way, they came in and I lead them into the living room, Abby was sitting on the corner of the couch with her knees to her chest and her arms wrapped around them ‘this is my daughter Abby’ I said as I motioned them to sit, they sat on the couch across from us and I sat next to my girl.

‘can you tell us what happened Abby?’ ‘I don’t know, I went into my bathroom to take a shower and there are, there are maggots in there with a dead rabbit’ she said softly as tears fell from her eyes, the officers looked at me and I nodded ‘her room is up the steps and to the left if you wanna go look’ I said and officer Beck and Mr. Roads nodded then stood up and went upstairs. ‘do you know of anyone who would do this? Any enemies?’ officer Collins asked again, Abby looked at me but I shook my head ‘I don’t have any and I don’t think she does either’ ‘well, wait’ Abby said and I looked down at her

‘What, what if it’s him daddy? What if he found me?’ she asked frightened, my eyes went wide and I looked over at officer Collins ‘she had to put her brother’s killer away when she was 12, he told her he was going to find her and kill her. He was sentenced to 8 years but what if he got out?’ I said as I looked over at the officer, he wrote in his little pad then looked back up at us ‘Abby, what’s the guy’s name?’ ‘Damian Reed’ she said softly, he nodded and wrote that down also as officer Beck was coming back down the steps ‘Collins, you might want to look at this’ he said and he nodded then stood up and walked upstairs with the other officer.

I hugged Abby tight and kissed her head ‘it’ll be ok baby girl, I won’t let anything happen to you’ I whispered and she nodded ‘Mr. Haner, is Abby your daughter?’ I heard from behind me and I looked to see the officers and Mr. Roads coming back over to us, one of them had something in his hand ‘no I adopted her, why?’ I said and he handed me something, it was a note that I hadn’t seen in the bathroom earlier. I opened it and read it ‘I'm gonna kill your new daddy you little bitch, then you’ll have no one’ it said and I looked up at the officers

‘what do we do? I have to go on tour with my band next month’ I said and they looked at each other then took the note back ‘we can’t really do anything until we know if it’s actually him. We’ll call the jail and find out then we’ll just have to go from there. If it is him then maybe it’s good that you leave for a while just in case’ officer Collins said, I nodded then stood up and walked the three men to the door. ‘we’ll call you if we find anything out’ officer Collins said, I nodded and thanked them and they were on their way.

I shut the door and walked back over to Abby, I sat next to her and wrapped my arms around her shoulders ‘please don’t leave me’ she whispered softly, I kissed her head and pulled back to look at her some ‘I will never leave you, I promise’ I whispered back, she nodded then wrapped her arms around my neck, I smiled and picked her up bridal style and walked us to my room.

I sat her on the bed then went into my bathroom to check everything out, it was clean so I walked back into the room and over to Abby ‘do you still wanna shower?’ I asked and she nodded a little ‘come on, you can use mine then we can go to bed’ I said, she nodded again then walked into the bathroom. She didn’t shut the door all the way but enough so I couldn’t see her, I heard the shower turn on, the curtain open then close.

I walked into her room and went into her bathroom, everything was cleaned up and I started moving some of the things she’d need most into my room, I tapped on the door to my bathroom a little then poked my head in ‘Abby?’ ‘yeah?’ ‘I got some of your things out of your bathroom if you wanna set them up in here’ I said as I set everything on the counter ‘ok, I will when I get out’ ‘alright, do you want another set of clothes or are you just gonna wear what you were?’ ‘I’ll just wear what I was wearing a few minutes ago’ ‘alright, I’ll be in bed’ ‘ok, thank you’ ‘you're welcome baby’ I said then walked out and kept the door cracked like she had it.

I pulled off my clothes then pulled on some plaid pj bottoms and climbed into bed, I turned on the tv and started watching Untold Stories of the ER. I heard Abby shut the shower off and get out, she took about five more minutes then came out in what she was wearing earlier but she didn’t have on her bra because she didn’t wear one when she slept. She walked over to the other side of the bed and climbed in next to me; she got on her side and put her head on my chest.

I wrapped my arm around her shoulders and rubbed her arm gently ‘can I get a tattoo?’ she whispered after a few minutes, I thought for a second then nodded ‘sure, as long as it’s something meaningful’ ‘I wanna get something for my brother’ she whispered again, I looked down at her and she was already looking up at me ‘ok, we’ll go tomorrow’ I nodded and she smiled then leaned up and kissed my cheek softly.

I smiled then pushed her on her back and started tickling her, she squealed a little then started laughing and pushing at my hands ‘daddy! Stop it!’ she laughed more as she tried getting away, I chuckled and kept going ‘I give I give!’ she yelled and I laughed again then stopped and smiled down at her, she was panting, her face was pink and she was smiling up at me.

I leaned down and nuzzled my face into her neck making her giggle ‘I love you’ I sighed softly against her neck, she set her hands on my shoulders and pushed a little so I sat up on my knees and looked down at her ‘you mean it?’ she whispered and I nodded ‘I can’t get you out of my head’ I whispered back and she looked confused, I sighed and got back onto my side of the bed, Abby sat up and looked at me

‘you know’ she started as she grabbed my hand, I let her and looked over at her ‘I can’t get you outta my head either but I, um, I've never had a boyfriend so I don’t know what type of feelings I'm having’ she said gently, I nodded and lifted her chin up so she’d look at me ‘what are you feeling?’ ‘well, I get all warm and fuzzy, and I have butterflies, you make me blush and you always tell me you love me’ she said softly as she traced the letters on my fingers. I smiled and watched as she did it ‘hey’ I whispered and she looked back into my eyes, I took my hand back and placed it behind her neck and pulled her into me slowly.

‘close your eyes’ I whispered and she did so then I leaned in a little more and placed my lips on hers, I kissed her ever so gently and after a moment she kissed back just as gently, I could tell she’d never been kissed but it really wasn’t bad at all. I didn’t go any farther but I knew she’d be a great kisser, I pulled away from her slowly and watched her expression, her eyes were still closed and she had a little smile on her face.

She opened her eyes slowly and touched her lips with her fingers ‘you ok?’ I whispered and she nodded then got back under the covers and cuddled up to me, I smiled and wrapped my arm around her back and rubbed her side a little bit ‘good night’ she whispered happily, I smiled and kissed her temple softly ‘good night baby girl’ I whispered back and I heard as her breathing evened out.

I stayed up a bit and watched her sleep, she made the cutest faces while she was dreaming but after a while I was getting tired so I shut off the tv and moved down in the bed a little, Abby shifted and rolled onto her side then cuddled back up to me. I smiled as I wrapped my arm around her waist and buried my face in her hair, I took in her scent then fell asleep smiling.
