Ch. 6- Smile
*~*Kamalei’s POV*~*
I needed a cigarette after that. Zacky and I stepped off the bus and lit up. It was so satisfying to have a smoke after my altercation. I looked down to my hand, where the adrenaline hadn’t worn off yet, but the small trickles of blood started to flow.
Zacky reached out, “Let me see your hand.”
I gave him my hand. His fingers were rough and calloused from the guitar. Rough hands are so sexy. There’s something about a man with rough hands from working that gets me riled up.
“You’re bleeding a little. Did it hurt? You hit him really fucking hard…”
“I’m fine. This isn’t the first time. Back home, fights are the usual.” I told him pulling my hand back and wiping the blood on my jeans.
“You get in a lot of fights? Must be because you’re so pretty.” He said smirking.
Holy shit snacks. He just said I was pretty. Don’t freak out. Calm the fuck down Lei…
I giggled nervously, “Thank you, but no that’s not why.”
I couldn’t tell him the real reason why. I barely knew him. I couldn’t tell him that my boyfriend, Micah, was the person I got into fights with. I couldn’t tell him about the black eyes and the bruises. I couldn’t tell him about the cuts and scratches. I couldn’t tell him my hand didn’t hurt this time, because hey, at least it isn’t broken this time…
He was looking at me with concern in his bright green eyes before changing the subject, “So how old are you Kamalei?”
“You can just call me Lei if you like. I’m 22 though. How old are you and the others?” I asked him happy that he changed the subject.
I don’t want to think of Micah now. Not now with this sweet man with the most beautiful eyes.
“Well let’s see here, Johnny is the youngin at 27. Everyone else is 30 except me, I’ll be 30 in December… damn I feel old as fuck now compared to you. Is Kelly the same age as you?” he asked taking a long drag on his cigarette.
“Yeah. She was one of the only people in high school who would talk to me.” I answered.
“I find that hard to believe. You’re really nice and I don’t see why more people wouldn’t want to talk to you.” He said smiling at me.
“It’s just different there. Most kids in my high school grew up all their lives together and I moved there my junior year. I guess my purple hair was just too weird for them.” I said looking down kicking the gravel in front of me.
“Well, that’s their loss then.” He said putting his fingers under my chin and lifting it to look in my eyes, smiling.
I slowly stepped back taking the last drag of my cigarette before flicking it into the distance, “I guess so Zack.”
“Come on. Those bitches would be crying if they saw you now. You’re the sister to the one and only M. Shadows… Just remember this, ‘The greatest revenge is bettering yourself.’ ” He laughed putting an arm around my shoulder, cheering me up.
“Yeah, you’re right Zacky.” I smiled looking up at him, “Way to quote yourself there by the way…”
He just laughed, “Oh, you caught that did you? Hahaha. I tried. At least I got you to smile.”
He opened the door to the bus, “You look prettier when you smile.” He smirked before walking up and inside.
A bigger smile crept across my face before I stepped up and into the bus ready to take my tour of my temporary home on a bus with a bunch of guys.
*~*Matt’s POV*~*
Fucking Baker. Where does he get off on showing MY sister around? What is his fucking angle?
I had finished my phone call with the head of the venue security after repeatedly apologizing for my sister and discussing their guard’s conduct in the first place, when Zacky and Lei came up the stairs. Lei had a big smile on her face and I was happy to see it after the angry one she had come back with last time I let her out of my sight.
“Ok so, we don’t have any extra bunks, but I am willing to give up mine for you sis, and Brian has agreed to give up his for Kelly.” I told Lei as she sat down on the couch by Kelly.
“Lei and I can share one Matt.” Kelly spoke up next to Lei.
“Yeah, we’ll share Brian’s one.” Lei said as her, Kelly, and Zacky all busted out in laughter looking at Brian.
“What’s so funny?” I asked looking at her quizzically.
“On the way here I told Kelly she could have my bunk. Long story. Don’t want to relive my humiliation…” Brian said monotone waving his hand in the air for me to just keep going.
“Alright then, we are going to be in Huntington tomorrow in the early afternoon, so we have plenty of time to kill from now until then. I say drinking?” I suggested.
“No drinking for me… I need a nap. Still drunk from earlier…” Johnny mumbled making his way back to his bunk.
“I wanted to take my tour first if that’s ok brother?” Lei asked looking up at me.
“Yeah, sure.” I said trying not to let the fact that Zacky was grinning from ear to ear, “I’ll find some music and more alcohol while you do that.”
Zacky grabbed her bag up off the ground and walked towards the back showing her a cabinet to put her and Kelly’s stuff in. I started to feel my ears burn red hot the way she giggled with him.
An arm snaked around my waist and Val whispered into my ear, “Matthew, calm down. He’s just showing her around. He’s not even touching her.”
I looked down at her and nodded. She was right and I knew it. I had nothing to worry about with the girls here in my sight. They were safe and in my care. These were my brothers. They would never do anything to hurt them. They would protect them like I would.
Jimmy jumped up off the couch, “Let’s get the show tunes!”
“NO!” Brian yelled at him.
“Please Brian? Just one!?” Jimmy pleaded with him.
“No. Not even one. I refuse to get drunk listening to Annie or some shit…” Brian grumbled walking to the fridge pulling out beers.
“Fine… What do we have Matt?” Jimmy asked me.
“Uh, how about Guns and Roses? Does that satisfy everyone?” I asked as Brian handed me one of the freshly opened beers.
“Yes!” Everyone yelled back as I walked over to the stereo and found the songs on my playlist.
“Let’s get this party started!” Brian yelled, pulling Kelly off the couch and swinging her around dancing.
I grabbed Val and started dancing with her while she just laughed at me.
“Oh, Mr. Sanders, I’m glad to see you will be in a good mood tonight…” She said to me.
“OOooooooooooo!” Jimmy said like a 5 year old.
I flipped him off as Lei came out from the back with Zacky following her. Her hazel green eyes matched mine. I could see it now in the lights.
“Here.” Brian said tossing a beer to her and one to Zacky.
“More shots!” she cried out sitting at the table after popping her beer open and taking a big gulp.
I stopped dancing and grabbed the shot glasses from the cabinet, along with the Jack, setting them down in front of her. I sat across from her at the table, pouring one for everyone as we all cheered and downed them.
“So sis. Tell me more about yourself.” I said smiling, refilling a shot for her and one for me.
