Life According To Amber Lynn Haner

*Amber's POV*

Im heading back to school tomorrow, and I've a week's worth of homework that's due tomorrow. Danny dropped all my books over to me on Monday, but I couldn't have been any less arsed to do it, and now I'm stuck sitting at my kitchen table with Dad "supervising".

He knows full well that I won't do it unless he's sitting there either reading the newspaper (I'd rather poke my eyes out than read that), GuitarWorld or doing whatever it is he's always doing on his phone. I'm a devil at not doing my homework, like I'll literally sit there scrolling through tumblr or Instagram instead.

But Dad was well-prepared this time. He took my phone off me until I have my homework completed, and he has it in the pocket of his hoodie, because he knows if he puts it somewhere, I'll make an excuse to go somewhere just to find it. He has me all figured out, I swear.

"So what did you guys do last night?" Dad asked, while I sat chewing the top of my pencil and staring at my math homework.

"Just stuff." I replied, not fully focusing on my answer.

"Don't be vague, whatever you do."

"Im not being vague, we literally just walked around the vintage and modern record stores downtown."

"Did you get anything?"

"Oh yeah, they should be upstairs. Hang on, I'll run up and get them." I began to get up, but he put a hand on my shoulder and sat me back down (not only does he have to sit WITH me while I do my homework, he has to sit NEXT to me, as I'll find ways to worm out of doing my homework).

"Nice try, you can get them when you're done."

"But-" I was starting to get a bit pissed off with this homework, and I'd started whining now too.

"No 'buts'. The quicker you sit down and actually do some homework, the quicker you can show me what you bought yesterday."

"'No buts'." I giggled to myself, and he sighed. There are times when I do have him driven up the wall, and there's also times where he just can't leave me alone (not that I'm complaining, though. I love the guy to death). I'm just one of those people you either hate or love, simple as that.

Two and a half hours, three cups of tea, a snapped pencil and a whole lot of whining later, my homework was done. Finally. I can tell you that both Dad and I were just short of celebrating the fact that it was finished, as it was a decent enough struggle to get it done. He also gave me back my phone, and I sat there clutching my lovely rubber WonderWoman case, that was actually the shape of a cartoon WonderWoman (best $15 I ever spent).


"So can I go and get my CDs now?" I asked, and Dad half-smiled and nodded. While there are times he finds me really annoying, there are times when he finds me adorable, as when I get excited, my eyes do this weird thing that he finds cute (I haven't even a clue what it is, so I just don't ask).

I ran upstairs to my room, and got the cd bag from the pocket of Danny's Foo Fighters hoodie. I really hoped that Dad would like the Pantera cd that I got him, as I'm nearly positive that he doesn't have it. I ran back downstairs and into the kitchen, sitting back down next to Dad on the chair that I was previously sitting in.

"Ok, I got Renegades Forever, Savages, and..I hope you don't have this..?" I handed him the cd, to which he pulled me into a hug. I hoped he'd be happy.

"I couldn't get this anywhere! How did you get it?" He asked, and I just shrugged.

"I made the dude at Derek's Record Store search out back for it, and yeah, he found it for me. I didn't think you had it so I thought I might surprise you with it."

"Wow, this is one of the best surprises ever, with the best being when you came here, obviously. Thanks so much babes. You're the cutest daughter ever."

"You're welcome, I'm glad you liked it."

"We've to go to the store now, do you mind? I know you can't stay here on your own, so does it bother you if you've to come with me?"

"No, I don't mind. I really want to go out, so anywhere would be great."

"Alright, that's great then. Are you ready to g or what's the story?"

"Nah, I'm ready. I might look a bit scruffy butler I'm ready to go."

"You don't look scruffy, you're fine. Right. We'd better get a move on before the shops get really busy. Sunday afternoons are a killer on the shopping front."

We ended up going to the big, fancy WalMart near the southern part of Huntington, and I'm not kidding when I say we sort three hours there. I mean we got McDonald's, and that was ok, but I've never spent so much time grocery shopping in my life. Between all of the homework I had, and all of the shopping we did, I'm pretty exhausted now, but I still want to go to bed late, as there's a big Supernatural marathon on tonight.

Sorry that the update was delayed, I'm on medication and it literally knocks me out, so I fell asleep before I got to update :/
