Life According To Amber Lynn Haner
Well, I Got My Phone Back
*Amber's POV*
Sunday. My least favourite day of the week. It's basically the day where you recover from a hazy Saturday night in some cases, or go to church in others. Mine's neither. I sleep in until noon, then I do nothing. This happens EVERY week.
Except, this Sunday was better. I was getting my phone back after suffering a harsh seven days without it, due to last week's drink-infused Saturday night. I said I'd learned my lesson, but that's just a lie to get Dad off my case. In actual fact, I'm still going to have a drink or two whether he likes it or not. I'm old enough to make my own choices, like I'm fourteen and a half years old for christ's sake.
"So like, can I have my phone now?" I asked Dad this afternoon, while I was sitting upside down on the couch. If I'm not allowed near alcohol, I go for caffeine. Two cans of Monster and three cups of coffee have been my intake so far today. It's only 2pm.
"In a while, I'm busy." He muttered, and went back to tuning in his guitar while sitting on the couch opposite me.
"But the week's OVER and I'm DYING for it!!!"
"You can wait a half hour, it's really important that I get this done, alright?"
"But-"
"Amber, enough. You can have it later, I promise." I folded my arms and sighed really extra loudly, and sulked like a toddler. I was still upside down on the couch.
-----
An HOUR went by, and Dad was still tuning his guitar and fiddling around with it. AN HOUR LATER! I was now sitting upright because the blood rushed to my head and gave me a headache, and I was also half-watching Criminal Minds.
A moment or so later, you could hear this faint ringing coming from the drawer under the mirror in the hallway. After a couple of seconds, I could hear words along with the noise.
"When you gonna give it up
You're giving me such a rush
Cmon Holly, would you
Turn me on?"
AND IT WAS MY RINGTONE! I jumped up off the couch and went out into the hall to get it, and I'd never ran faster in my life. I stood looking at the screen for a few minutes before I'd copped that whoever was trying to call me had hung up. As weird as it was, I'd never missed a piece of technology so much in my life. I went back inside and sat back down on the couch, opening up my tumblr account and scrolling through my feed, looking at all of the stuff I'd missed out on.
"And if I ever catch you drinking again, I'll take it for three times as long, you hear? And don't forget, you're still grounded." Dad warned, and I nodded slightly, too distracted looking at pictures of All Time Low that came up on my feed.
-----
I was sitting up in my room, still scrolling through tumblr, and playing random chords on my guitar, when Ash tried calling again. It was him that was trying to contact me about ten minutes ago. As you probably figured out, my ringtone was Holly Would You Turn Me On by All Time Low, as thanks to the new IOS update, you can set a song for your ringtone.
"Hey, sorry I couldn't answer earlier, my battery died on me." I said, lying slightly. What he doesn't know can't hurt him.
"Oh..it's fine." Ash replied, really distantly. He sounded like he'd been crying, but he never cried. I thought he might've just had the flu or something.
"Are you alright? You sound terrible!"
"That's what I wanted to call you about, I have something to tell you.." This wasn't going to end well.
