Life According To Amber Lynn Haner

You're Stuck With Me

*Amber's POV*

I stayed at home with Austin for the next few days until the funeral was over, then I made my way to my supposed dad's place. I found $25 in one of my drawers, and used that to pay for my bus ticket to Cali.

Austin was still in a deep state of shock and grief, and was asleep in what used to be his and my mom's bed. We've barely spoken in the last couple of days, and we mostly just gave eachother hugs of support (when I wasn't crying).

Id written a note and left it on the dresser, and gave him a hug before I was going to leave. This move, however, woke him up, and once he copped that I was leaving, he saddened even more.

"Hey, Amber, do you want me to drive you down? I mean, I love you like you're my own daughter, and I don't want you to go all the way down to Cali on your own." He yawned, sitting up on the bed, while I sat down next to him.

"It's fine, I don't want to bother you. I've got my bus fare, so it's ok. I've gone all over the country with my cheer leading, so I'll make it there alive!" I tried to lighten the mood, and he ruffled my bangs.

"Youre a good kid, I'm going to miss having you around so much."

"Don't worry, you still have my number and I still have yours, so you're never leaving me! And I promise we can meet up after I get settled in, and then you can meet my dad too."

"Id like that, I really would."

"Me too. My bus should be here soon, so I'd better run. I'll miss you Austin, but I'll see you soon!"

"I'll miss you too, kiddo. Stay safe, alright? And call me when you meet your dad." He gave me a hug and kissed my forehead, before I ran down the stairs and out the door, grabbing my suitcases in the process.

-----

The bus dropped me at the top of a housing estate, after I'd shown the driver the address. The house that I'd be going to is down at the very bottom of the estate, so it was a bit of a walk, but I didn't mind. Once I'd reached 32 CedarWood Drive (the house, obviously), I stood outside for a second, and contemplated what to do. My thoughts were interrupted by some tattoo-covered dude in his early thirties yelling at me.

"Hey, kid, can you not hear me? I asked you if you're lost." He said, coming up next to me. I flinched slightly, but he put his hands up in defeat. "Chill out, Dip-Dye, I won't hurt you."

"My name's Amber, Amber Lynn Haner. And I'm not lost, I'm looking for my dad's place, and I think this's it." I replied, folding my arms.

"Did you say your last name was "Haner"? You're not by any chance Amanda Dillon's kid, are you?" I nodded, and was about to say something, when some guy (I'm guessing was my dad) walked out of the house that I was standing outside, and he was looking totally confused.

"Zacky, who's this?" He asked, so I'm putting two and two together, and guessing the guy who called me Dip-Dye's name is Zacky.

"Dude, this's Amber. And do you know who's daughter she is? Yours." Zacky replied, and he looked absolutely over the moon.

"Im guessing you're Brian Haner then, yeah?" I asked, and next thing I knew, Brian had literally attacked me with a hug. I'm guessing he was my dad, then.

-----

We sat in Brian's living room staring blankly at the tv, trying to digest what had just happened. I found my dad, Brian found the daughter he's never met, and Zacky has a new niece (aka me).

"How come you're here? I mean, I'm shocked more than anything else, but why?" Brian asked me, and I sighed.

"My mom passed away last week from cancer, and she wanted me to live with you. I thought she had this all planned in advance, because how else would she have gotten your address?

"Wait, she died? When?"

"Last Monday..I thought you'd known, as I repeat, I thought you guys had this planned in advance.."

"Your mom and I lived here while we were in college..I never moved away incase she came back.."

"Came back? You left her, not the other way around. You moved from Denver to here, she told me you left her.." I was getting pissed off now, and that shut Brian up. I'd hit. Nerve now, nice one, Amber!

"I'll leave you two to work things out, then. I'll call you later, man." Zacky said, and then left, leaving Brian and I in silence for a few moments, until Brian spoke up.

"I didn't know you were coming, so you can just take the guest bedroom, and we'll figure something out." He sighed, and I nodded. Wow, this was going to be fun..

Notes

I can't write for shit, so I apologise already

I also apologise for any spelling mistakes, as I'm typing this on my iPod, and it has a mind of its own. And also for any illiterate phrases, I'm not overly bright and insanely ditzy

That's so sweet, thank you <3 Ive already restarted writing on a different fic, and I'm writing twenty chapters and see how it goes. If it falls apart, I'll continue this one. If it gets a better review, I'll continue it. Thanks again for the kind words though, they mean much more then you could imagine <3 xx

Noooooo you can't restart. I love this fic just the way it is. ;~; you're an amazing writer. Don't think differently. Everyone has their insecurities. I'm insecure about my writing as well, but you're amazing at writing and 100 times better than any other people whose fics I read.
