Life's a Game, but it's Not Fair

Eight

The Escalade pulled up to the fancy venue the dinner was being held at and the valets hurried over to take the keys from Zacky as everyone disembarked.

Matt helped Reagan down and winked at her. Looking down, she saw that his problem still was not fully solved.

“You might want to run to the bathroom.” She mumbled only so he could hear.

“Meet me there?” He whispered, through his tone she knew he was teasing. She simply raised her eyebrows and shrugged teasingly as if to say “maybe.”

“After you Miss Haner,” Matt said grinning gesturing in front of him so she could go up the stairs.

“Why thank you Master Shadows,” she said gracefully curtsying as she ascended the stairs. Zacky, Johnny and Matt in tow.

“There they are.” Jimmy cried from his spot between Kappie and Brian, who were speaking with Matt Tuck from Avenged’s number one ally, Bullet for my Valentine.

“Hello Mr. Tuck.” Reagan said respectfully, dipping her head down.

“Well Miss Reagan,” Tuck said taking her hand and kissing it. “It has certainly been quite a long time. You have grown up very fast. Congratulations on your recent graduation.” She smiled and thanked him.

“Here is something from us.” Tuck continued, pulling a check from his jacket pocket.

Reagan’s eyes widened at the amount written on it and thanked him profusely. Tuck merely held up his hand and shrugged it off, claiming it was the least he could do.

“Not bad.” Jimmy murmered and gave her discreet thumbs up. Brian saw the exchange between the two and shook his head.

The allies all soon arrived. Some were whole gangs, some were represented. Some of the men brought their wives or the current woman they had in their lives. Reagan smiled and greeted each person graciously and, much to Brian’s surprise, so did Kappie.

She was beautiful, he could not deny it. For some reason she looked like she belonged in this world and luxury and secrets. Brian pushed these thoughts from his mind as he called the men into the meeting room and left the girls outside for drinks.

“She looks more and more like her mother every time I see her Syn.” Jacoby Shaddix said as he sat in his leather chair.

Brian smiled and nodded. His ex-wife was a bitch, but she was breathtaking when they had started dating. He was happy his daughter had inherited her natural beauty and not her ice cold personality.

“You all know she means the world to me,” Brian began, his words raw and honest.

“And to us too.” Jimmy piped up and the members of Avenged all nodded.

Brian smiled gratefully at his friends, “which is why I have called you all here.” He continued. “The pictures Tuck sent to me a few weeks back made me skeptical, that Madden was in Huntington, there was nothing to prove. No offense to you of course.”

Tuck waved his comment away understandingly.

“Reagan was followed home the night of her friend’s graduation party. I don’t know if it was truly Good Charlotte, but it was one of their usual tricks. Stealing a random car to try and throw us off the scent. I have called you all here tonight to ask if you will support us should something arise. You are not in any means required to side with us. You may ask for time to think it over and you may decline. There will be no hard feelings towards any of you and your decisions in this will be known only to Vengence, Shadows, Christ, The Rev and myself. You have all helped us before and you are all valued as our allies. This is why I have called upon your help.”

The sound of the meeting room doors opening pulled all the women in the outer room to attention.

“Well.” Brian said clapping his hands together. “Now that all the boring work stuff is over, shall we eat.”

Jimmy’s resounding whoop echoed throughout the marble hallway. Reagan sighed and shook her head.

To Reagan’s surprise, she watched her father walk over to Kappie and offer her his arm. She accepted and the two of them led to procession to the dining area.

She turned around to look for Matt, hoping he would escort her, but smiled when Jimmy rushed over and offered her his arm.

“Mad at all?” He whispered. She flushed suddenly, had he noticed her looking for Matt? “What?” she asked feigning innocence.

Jimmy gestured to Brian and Kappie leading the way. Relief flooded through her as she shook her head. “It’s funny,” she said, looking at her uncle. “I think they look good together.”

After a massive dinner Reagan, Kappie and the guys stood thanking everyone for coming.

One of Bullet’s blonde and plastic women kissed Reagan on both cheeks and thanked her. “And you,” she said turning to Kappie and grabbing her hands “looked absolutely amazing. No one would have guessed that Avenged Sevenfold would be so kind as to bring their maid with them! It’s like Cinderella.” Kappie stiffened and forced a small smile.

Reagan’s eyes widened at the comment and looked over at her father. Unfortunately, he was in deep conversation with one of the men from Papa Roach, but that didn’t mean the other guys didn’t hear it. They thanked her coldly for coming and surrounded Kappie as soon as the blonde was out of sight. No one said a word.

“If you’ll excuse me.” She said finally, tears welling in her beautiful eyes. “I just need to use the bathroom.”

“Kappie-“ Reagan pleaded as she grabbed the woman’s hand. Kappie merely shook it off “I’m okay Reagan honestly.”

“Let her go pipsqueak.” Zacky said gently placing a hand on her shoulder.

“We probably shouldn’t tell Syn about this.” Johnny said lowly. “I don’t want to start trouble. If Kappie wants to tell him she can.” Everyone nodded.

“Ready to head home?” Brian called as he headed over to the group. When he learned that they were still waiting on Kappie, he urged the others to head home and that he would drive her.

Kappie was silent as Brian’s Porsche zoomed on the highway. “Master Gates?” she asked quietly, breaking the silence. “Do you mind if I ask you something?”

Brian shook his head. “of course not Kappie.”

She took a deep breath. “Why did you invite me to this event tonight?”

“Because you’re a member of this family. A very valuable one.”

“So I’m not just the maid?”

Brian slammed on his breaks at her question. A car behind him blared on its horn.

“Why the fuck would you think that?” he cried incredulously. “Did one of the guys say something? Did Reagan? I’ll ground her, for the first time ever.”

Kappie shook her head, “no one from here but-“ and as she burst into tears she told him.

Brian felt angry at the blonde whore Bullet kept around. He knew he could not bring it up with Tuck, he didn’t want trouble with his greatest ally. He pulled over to the side

“Kappie listen to me.” He said gently, placing his finger under her chin so he could look her in the eyes. “You are not just the maid. You aren’t even a maid. You are the backbone of our family. You feed us, you care for us, you helped raise my daughter. You are so valuable and I don’t know how to show you how much you mean to us, to me.”

Kappie leaned forward and their lips touched.

Neither of them was sure who started it, but Brian pulled her close and deepened the kiss. Kappie kissed back just as hard and ran her fingers through his hair. His pants became tighter and he groaned against her lips.

Suddenly, as if a switch was thrown the two realized who they were kissing. Kappie snapped back into her seat and stared forward. “Sorry.” She said quickly, fixing her hair.

“Don’t apologize.” Brian said and threw the car into drive.

Back at the mansion Reagan sat at her vanity as she pulled her hair out of its sock bun. Her dress hung neatly in her closet and her heels lay on the carpet. She loved getting dressed up and going to fancy events like tonight, but she also loved the feeling afterwards just being in her comfy clothes.

Her door opened as she was pulling off her earrings. She smiled as Matt came into the room. “Hey.” She said softly, “I was just about to head over like you told me to.” Matt smiled and leaned down and kissed her.

“I wanted to talk to you.” He said softly as he sat on her bed. He leaned forward and rubbed his hands together.

“Your dad cares about you so much. And not only is he my friend and my boss, but he is one of the most feared gang members ever. But I know he respects honesty more than anything. If it’s okay with you, I’d like to talk to him before we go any further.”

Reagan was taken aback. Matt genuinely cared enough to talk to her father first. She was overwhelmed. She truly felt like he respected her. She smiled at him, then crossed the room so she stood in front of him. “Yes,” she whispered softly and pressed her lips to his.

Immediately Matt pulled her to him and put his hands firmly on her ass. “You have no idea how amazing your butt is.” He murmured through her lips. She laughed and pushed him down on her bed, kissing him harder.

Matt flipped her over so he was straddling her and placed his lips in the crevice of her neck. Immediately, Reagan gasped and bucked her hips. She could feel him smirking as he kept kissing the sensitive spot.

Suddenly, one of the alarms in the house beeped, letting everyone know that the gate was being opened.

Matt stopped what he was doing and looked at the beautiful girl laying beneath him. “See you in the morning beautiful.” He whispered and kissed her gently before ducking out of the room.

Reagan sighed as she lay back on her pillows, her lips on fire. For one of the first nights in awhile she fell into a blissful sleep.

Brian pulled into the circular driveway wordlessly. He and Kappie had not said a thing to each other since their moment on the highway. He looked at her as she unbuckled her seatbelt. He seemed to see her in a new light, as if he had just noticed the beautiful young woman who had worked for them for so long.

“Kappie?” he asked softly as she was almost out of the car. She froze and turned. “Would you uh, maybe want to get dinner somewhere tomorrow night?” She smiled shyly and nodded. “Sure I’d like that.” He grinned as she got out and he sped into the garage.

Walking into the hallway, he saw Matt waiting for him.

“What’s up Shads?” He asked as he hung up his keys

“Can I talk to you about something Boss?” He asked nervously, rubbing his arms.

“Of course.” Brian said concerned and the two headed for his office.

“What’s up?” He asked and he sat behind his desk.

Matt remained standing. “I know that you value honesty. That’s how Kappie came to work for us out of her father’s honesty so his debt could be repaid. Brian, I came here tonight and I apologize for it being so late, to ask you something that frankly scares the fucking shit out of me. Lately, I’ve developed feelings for someone. And this is what scares me most. I’ve developed feelings for Reagan.”

Brian felt as if the floor had dropped, but he let him continue. As Matt had said, he respected honesty.

“I wanted to come to you first, sir. Out of respect for both you and your daughter. I didn’t want to sneak behind your back and I didn’t want her to feel like a gang whore. I was wondering if I could take her out to dinner tomorrow night. I promise I won’t do anything to hurt her, but I know that she is your crown jewel. If you say no I will respect it completely, but I don’t know how my feelings for her will change.”

Brian stood and looked out the window. Of course Matt wasn’t the first boy to be interested in his daughter and like any father he would have wanted her far away from those of the male gender, but for some reason, a part of him knew he could trust Matt with her.

“As you know Matt.” He began, turning to face him, “Reagan is the most precious thing to me. I value her even more than my own life. However, as you also said I admire and respect honesty. That took balls to come here and speak with me. You may ask Reagan if she would like to go out tomorrow. But you know the levels of hell that will befall you should you hurt her or mistreat her in anyway”

Matt stood “Yes sir, I know Jimmy has a cattle prod for that situation.”

Brian laughed at that “Our relationship and your relationship with the others will stay the same my friend,” he assured the younger man. Matt smiled and turned to leave

“But Matt-“ He turned.

“I must admit I feel that I can trust you with her.”

Matt smiled “Brian, you have nothing to worry about. She means so much to me.”

As he left the room, Brian smiled. Thinking about his daughter’s happiness and, as his thoughts turned to his date tomorrow with Kappie, his own.
