Life's a Game, but it's Not Fair

Eighteen

The first thing the guys did was check the house.

Top to bottom. Guns drawn.

“Guys you might want to come look at this,” Johnny suddenly yelled from the front yard.

Matt, Brian, Zak and Jimmy all sprinted out the front door.
Meeting Johnny, the guys could all see that the massive black gate that led to the property was wide open.

“The gate was closed when we got here and I closed it when I drove through” Brian said adamantly

The only way anyone could get onto the property was through the gate. Everyone in the family had a special button in their cars for the gate. There was also an eight digit code that changed every 4 months. If that didn’t work you just pressed a button that alerted the house and someone would let you in from Jimmy’s control room. Security was so tight that even Blair wasn’t given the code.

“Jim how the fuck could someone get the gate open?” Matt yelled running his hands through his hair.

The guys sprinted for the computer room, Jimmy launched into action. He pulled up all the logs on the house from the day.

“Okay Gates you were right, you opened and closed the gate at 1:45”

Brian breathed a sigh of relief.

“Hang on a second,” Jimmy said suddenly. He hit some keys and stared at the screen intently for a few minutes

“What is it Rev?”

“My logs say that the gate was opened using the code sequence at 8:45, my security codes of the house say the door was opened and the alarm disarmed using the code sequence at 8:48. Everything in the house was relocked at 9:05 and the gate was closed at 9:07.”

Jimmy hit another button and a new screen popped up. Video surveillance.

A dark SUV rolled up to the gate entrance where a hand expertly plugged in a code. Then the view was switched to a person in dark clothes entering the house and plugging in the security code for the house, they appeared to be carrying a laptop bag and disappeared into the computer room.

“Whoever these fuckers are they must have implanted whatever it was that made my computer freeze and lock the doors so they could grab Reagan,” Jimmy exclaimed.

“Rev watch the footage again. See If you can make out any faces. Boys let’s look in the back of the house,” Brian ordered.

Matt stood up, feeling sick. Brian reached out and placed his hand on one of the younger man’s shoulders.

“Shads, we’re going to get her back. I promise.”

All he could do was nod and follow the rest of the guys outside

Where was his girl?

The first thing Reagan did when she opened her eyes was look at her dress.

It was absolutely filthy with hardly any trace of white left.

She groaned inwardly and looked at her surroundings.

She was in a bedroom. A fancy one. Everything was white and looked highly expensive. Was she in another mansion?

She stepped gently off the bed she had been laying on to take in her surroundings. She opened a closet near her to find it full of clothes that were just her size. Her locket that had been missing when the Avenged mansion had been broken into was laying in a jewelry box on the vanity table near the door.

“The people who broke into my house must have taken me,” she thought grimly.

As if to answer her question, the door to the room was thrown open and a man walked in. Reagan knew who he was right away.

Benji Madden. Brother of Joel, her father’s greatest enemy.

“Where the fuck am I!?” She demanded “my father, my boyfriend and my uncles are going to come for me and they will kill all of you.”

Benji laughed. A sound that sent chills down Reagan’s spine. All her life she had been surrounded by muscled gangsters who protected her, she had never been afraid.

In this moment she was facing Benji Madden,

And she was alone.

Wordlessly, Benji gripped her arm and brought her into a hallway. She jerked and tried to break free. She told him how she had seen her father bash in a man’s skull on the pavement and how Matt would shoot him over and over if anything happened to her.

They reached the end of the hall.
Benji knocked twice, then opened the door.

Throwing Reagan inside he said simply “this one’s a handful boss.”

From her position on the ground Reagan could see she was in an office. There was a desk in front of her and come chairs and a pair of men’s boots.

Looking up she saw Joel Madden smirking at her triumphantly.

It wasn’t Joel she was most shocked to see, it was the person behind the desk.

It was a woman.

Dark hair, bright blue eyes, high cheekbones.

For the first time in her adult life, Reagan Juliet Haner stared into the eyes of her mother.

At the Avenged mansion, the guys were getting no results.

Allies were called, the Berry twins were dispatched.

Brian felt like he needed to throw up, punch a wall and drink a bottle of Jack Daniels simultaneously.

He sat at his desk, his head in his hands.

Where was his little girl? Where was Kappie? Why was this happening to his family?

Suddenly Jimmy rushed into his office.

“Gates!! I figured it out, it’s insanely fucked up though,”

“Tell me Rev. Tell me now.”

“Okay so I realized to turn off the house alarm you need to verify with your thumb print. The people that did this didn’t hack into my computer and find the codes. Someone let them in. Someone in this family.”

Brian’s heart stopped.

“Who was it Jim?”

“Gates I-“

“Jimmy who the fuck is responsible for my daughter being abducted out of her own fucking bedroom and my girlfriend walking out one morning and not coming back?”

Jimmy took a deep breath and handed him a file.

“Gates it was Kappie. Kappie let them in. Kappie is the reason Reagan is gone.”
