Roadtrip

Matt’s POV
“Do you think he will be there?” Zack asked me as soon as we got into the car.
“I hope not, but I have a really bad feeling about this” I replied. It was true. As much as this sounded like an action movie, I was getting more and more convinced that this was how he had found the girls during their trip this far. I just couldn’t think of any other way this could be possible.
“Let’s just wait and see” When we left the hotel, we had told the receptionist we wanted to do some sightseeing and wanted to get some inspiration. We asked her for places that weren’t really crowded and apparently there was this spot, a little secluded and you needed to know the way to get there. She draw us a map, so that was where we would go.

We were driving in silence, me clenching the steering wheel, Zack staring outside with a determined look on his face. I had tried real hard to convince Jimmy and Brian to let me go, because I wasn’t “too involved”, but truth was, I hated the fact these girls had to be scared of some ass, him threatening them, and I honestly didn’t know what I would do if I came face to face with him again.

I sighed “I hate that guy for scaring them, they just don’t deserve it you know...” Zack nodded.
“Yeah, I can’t imagine ever coming to that point, I mean.. you can love someone and when they leave you it will hurt, but to chase ‘em down, making them be with you.... that’s just sick!”
“What do you think we should do when he shows up?” I asked Zack
“I don’t know... Maybe he will run?”
“Maybe” I concentrated on the road again, it would certainly be easier if he would, but I hoped he wouldn’t. I wanted to have a nice little talk with him, making sure he understood the nature of our visit.

We reached the place and it was perfect. It was quiet and shielded by trees, it would be perfect to wait for Josh and don’t get noticed right away. Not by Josh, not by nosy bystanders. I shut down the car and looked at Zack “Now we wait”

And waiting was what we were doing for the next two hours. “Maybe he’s not showing up” Zack shrugged “Maybe we were wrong”.
I was so convinced this was what was happening that I just couldn’t believe he wouldn’t show up.
“Let’s wait for another hour and then we will leave if he still isn’t here”
10 minutes passed and another 20 went by, when we heard a car approaching. I looked at Zack and we both got out of the car as soon as we heard a door slammed shut. “Mia? Baby? Where are you?” Yes, there he was... Josh... I was right, he couldn’t have followed us, it took too long and this place was not some place you would just stumble across. We showed ourselves to him...

“Hello Josh” Zack said, walking over to him. Josh’s head snapped up the second he heard Zack and he looked confused “Not what you expected right? I think the three of us should have a nice adult conversation”
“I have nothing to say to you” Josh huffed
“Well, even better, we will talk, you will listen” I replied, moving in to him, making him back up to the car.
“I... I... I will report you to the authorities if you hurt me!” He was already squirming while I wasn’t even close to touching him, he really was a douche.
“And tell them what?” I groaned at him “That you are stalking two nice girls, that you threatened to hurt their friends, that you forced one of them to come with you?”
“No! I will tell them the truth! You brainwashed my girlfriend, make her believe she didn’t want me anymore, make her confused about her feelings for me, that we belong together. I will ask them to help me get Mia back to me, where she belongs”
“Are you delusional?” Zack asked him baffled. “She doesn’t want you! She wanted to be so far away from you, she left everything behind to make sure she couldn’t run into you. And what do you do? You follow her! You sick bastard!”
Zack shoved him against his shoulder, letting him fall back to the car even more.
Josh took all the accusations and the shoving calmly and looked Zack straight in his eyes when he spoke again “She will come to her senses”

I couldn’t listen to him anymore. His calmness, his determination to believe a lie drove me over the edge, was the guy crazy?! I bridged the distance between us and grabbed his collar
“You listen to me right now! And make sure this will get through to this thick head of yours. She doesn’t want to be with you anymore, she found someone new, you better leave her and Izzie alone or we will press charges. I will have you committed. Any shrink will back me up that you are completely out of your mind! You will get into your car and get back to the hole you came from. LEAVE. THEM. ALONE! You heard me?”
Josh nodded and moved over to the driver’s side, just before he got in he looked at Zack and me
“You changed her... you and your friends... she was never like this, sleeping around with random guys... Just tell her I will be waiting for her when she changes her mind, no hard feelings... and in the meantime tell your friend not to touch her again. She is mine!”

Zack and I looked at each other and then watched him drive away. “That guy is mentally ill, something is not connecting in there.. Fuck!” Zack was cursing under his breath.
“Do you think he got the message?”
“I don’t know, I want to believe he has, but that guy is crazy, man... He doesn’t live in the real world you know...”
“You might be right” I sighed “Let’s search the car for that tracking device and get rid of it”

Izzie’s POV
We were on our way back to the hotel, laughing and joking about the day and all the money that we made. The manager of the post office gave us 500 dollar. He told us we did a good job, and that was the money he wanted the charity to have, so that was what he was donating.When all three of the guys got a text, the mood in the van changed drastically.
“Brian, what is wrong?” I looked at him, his face full of anger. “Nothing” he answered shortly and concentrated on the road again. I looked behind me to find the saw expressions on Jimmy and Johnny, while Mia must have reflected my look, confused. She shrugged and mouthed to me “will find out later”.

The moment we stopped at the hotel we jumped out of the van and walked into the hotel. In the lobby Matt and Zack were waiting for us, same angry expressions
“We need to talk” Matt said “I reserved a table for us at the restaurant in the hotel, be ready in 30 minutes” We all left for our rooms to shower and get dressed.

Within 30minutes everyone was at the restaurant, sitting at the table that Matt reserved for us. I sat in between Brian and Mia, while Matt sat right ahead from me, he looked serious and Brian had barely spoken a word to me when we were back in our room. Our food was served and everyone was eating silently. What the fuck was going on, did we do something wrong, were they mad at us for something? I thought hard, but I just couldn’t come up with anything. “Matt, what the fuck is wrong? If you are mad at us, just say so!” I looked over the table and saw Matt’s look soften “No! I’m not mad at you! What makes you think that!?”
“The look your faces?”
Matt looked around at the others.

“We saw Josh today”
“What!?” Mia yelled and I felt her tense up beside me. Matt started telling about their suspicions and their plan to test that. He told us he had been right and that Josh had showed up at the place they drove to.
“I don’t know what to say, Mia, was he always like this?”Zack asked
“No, not in the beginning, but he soon acted a little weird, that is why I broke it off”
Matt spoke up “He still thinks you are coming back to him, he blames us that you are not with him, told us we brainwashed you and you were never like this and that you would come back to him eventually”
In the corner of my eye I saw Jimmy put his arm around Mia possessively.

“We searched for the tracking device for two hours, but we couldn’t find anything out of the ordinary, so Zack and I made a plan to keep you and Mia safe”
We looked over to Matt expectantly
“Since you two are not going anywhere for the rest of this trip, we thought we could leave your car here. We will let the hotel keep most of your stuff in storage, we already asked and it’s no problem and then you two can travel with us in the van, we will make it work”
Zack continued “Matt and I will get rid of the car tomorrow morning real early and we will start moving again right after breakfast. We will take a long drive this time and try to get as far away from Josh as possible, when he is not able to trace you that easily anymore, we will be able to keep you both safe”

I was holding on to Mia’s hand, without knowing I even grabbed it. I looked over at her, she looked just as shocked as I was.
“Okay” she said then and cuddled into Jimmy, regaining her calm, I wish I could share that feeling, I was freaking out.
“I’m not hungry anymore” I got up from my seat “and I’m really tired, I’m going to bed, I will see you all tomorrow” I kissed Mia’s cheek, saying her goodnight and started to walk away from the restaurant, not even looking back. When I was waiting for the elevator I felt a hand around mine. I looked to the side “You don’t have to come back with me, just have fun” I kissed Brian’s cheek.
“No, I’m coming with you”

As soon as Brian and I entered our room I walked over to the bed, taking off my clothes, slipping into Brian’s shirt. It smelled like him and it calmed me down, but then I thought about what could have happened again. I let myself fall down on the edge of the bed and sat down, staring at the wall. I could have lost everything. I could have lost Mia. I should have made her go to the police right away. Why was I so stupid to believe this roadtrip could be fun, to think we would outrun him, we could have never outrun him. I felt shivers coming over my body and I was suddenly cold.
“Iz, do you want to talk?”
“No”
“Izzie, you look hurt, please talk to me”
Brian crouched in front of me, his hands on my knees, looking up at me
“I could have lost her, Brian, she is everything I have” I felt tears roll down my cheeks.
He wiped away my tears with his thumbs.
“You won’t lose her, we are here, we make sure you both are safe. You are safe Izzie” He kissed me softly. “You are ice cold, let’s get into bed”

He opened the sheets for me, waiting for me to get in and then putting it over me, then he stripped down to his boxers and got in too, turning the lights down. Our faces where almost touching, and he caressed my face, staring into my eyes. He kissed me again, never wanting to deepen the kiss, it was just comforting. Then he pulled me close to his body and I buried my face to his chest. Him just being here calmed me down, his touch made me feel safe, but I couldn’t shake the feeling of how we cut it close, what if Josh had tried something, we wouldn’t have stand a chance. I turned around in Brian’s arms, letting him spoon me and hold me close as silent tears streamed down my face. I couldn’t live without Mia, I just couldn’t.
“Shhhh sweetie, don’t cry, try to get some sleep, tomorrow everything will be a little brighter”
He kissed my hair and I closed my eyes, at least this night I would be safe.
