Chapter 2

“I can’t do this, Rene!” Samantha whined, standing in the middle of the terminal at the airport.

“Yes you can, Sam! I’m not letting you back out for the third time.”

Samantha and Rene have done this twice before. Samantha would get the courage to finally go home but would chicken out as soon as her flight was called.

“Now boarding flight 7031 to Los Angeles.”

Samantha felt a slight push as Rene walked her towards the line where boarding passes were being checked.

“Fine, I’m going. But I’m going to miss you,” says Samantha dramatically as she stands in the long line.

“I’m going to miss you too, Sam. You can always call me or Skype me,” Rene reassured Samantha while hugging her.

“Ok, I’ll make sure to bug you 24/7,” Sam replies laughing.

Rene smiles, eyes glistening with tears. Samantha watched Rene leave with a frown. She couldn’t believe she was actually going home this time. Sam had been homesick since she arrived in Chicago seven years ago. She had a chance to go home two years ago when she was fired from her journalism job. Apparently her articles weren’t mainstream enough and not many readers had an interest in rock and metal. So instead of going back home, Sammy chickened out and got a job with Rene at a local bar as a waitress.

“Ma’am, what is your row number?” asks the flight attendant.

“Row 15,” replies Samantha with a nervous smile.

The flight attendant leads Sam to row 15, squeezing past people who are putting away their bags. Once at her row, Samantha stores her 2 small luggages above her seat. She then sits down in her aisle seat with her purse on her lap. She takes out a pair of headphones and plugs them into her iPod, closing her eyes.

The flight from Chicago to Los Angeles took 3 hours and 45 minutes. After dealing with rowdy people at the baggage claim and the emotional reunion with her parents, Samantha finally arrived at the beach house she would be renting in Huntington Beach. Her parents helped her get settled before leaving her to shower and get comfortable.

Samantha put on a fresh pair of jeans and her Batman hoodie before blow-drying her long brown hair. Samantha decided years ago to get rid of her medium length black hair in hopes of forgetting about her past. The anchor tattoo on her hip also shows that she isn’t as innocent as she used to be.

Samantha filled her water bottle before going outside to spend some time with her baby - her black 1967 Mustang fastback. She was able to afford her baby 5 years ago while she still had her journalism job. Samantha manually unlocked her car door and sat in the drivers seat. She keyed the ignition as the muscle car roared to life. Samantha sighed a breath of relief. Her car was delivered here a week ago and Sam worried about her baby the entire time.

“So you’re the owner of this awesome car?” a young woman asked, standing in Samantha’s front yard. She had dark reddish brown hair that stopped above her shoulders and was wearing dark purple skinny jeans with a black Metallica shirt.

“Yeah. I just moved in today. I’m Samantha,” Sammy greeted, locking the car door.

“Cool, I live in the house behind you. I’m Becca,” says the girl with a friendly smile.

Samantha looked at her in shock. The house behind Sam’s beach house was fucking huge.

“Holy shit, you’re loaded!” Sam blurts out.

Becca laughs out loud, “It’s my boyfriends house. I just live with him.”

A few seconds go by before Sammy speaks again.

“Nice. Well it’s nice to meet you, Becca.”

“You too, Samantha. I have to go. I’m going to an event with my boyfriend tonight.”

“Awesome! Have fun,” replies Sam as she steps closer to her front door.

“Do you want to come with? You can meet my boyfriend.”

Samantha stared at Becca with slight panic on her face. Samantha didn’t want to leave her house just yet. She knew Matt could be anywhere around Huntington and she didn’t want to run into him.

“O-oh..Umm, I’m pretty t-tired from my flight. B-but thanks for
inviting me,” replies Sammy, stuttering as she spoke.

Becca decided not to push the subject and just smiled before saying goodbye. Samantha sighed in relief before going in her house and locking the door behind her. She liked Becca but wasn’t ready to go out quite yet. However, she knew she couldn’t hide in her house forever.

@DaniVengeance @FoREVer_ShadowZ I had an absolute blast writing this story. I'm so sorry that it has to end so soon but I was thinking about writing a threequel to this story when I have a break from school. But I'm not sure if I should or not.
