Chapter 1

It was 8pm on a cold December night in Chicago. Samantha was sitting on the couch in her high rise apartment with her apartment mate, Rene.

I wish I could still call you friend, I’d give anything.

Pink’s song, Who Knew blared through the room as Rene had her radio playing. Samantha sat there with a small smirk, watching Rene dance dramatically. ‘Of all songs that could play right now, it would be this one,’ Sam thought.

I’ll keep you locked in my head, until we meet again.

Samantha couldn’t stand this fucking song. Every time it came on the radio she turned to a different station. The song brought up a memory she tried so hard to forget, a certain someone she tried to forget.

7 years ago:

Samantha had just got off the phone with an executive at the Chicago Sun Times. They offered her a position as a journalist writing music news and reviews for their newspaper. She had been waiting to hear back from them for months. Now it was time to make her decision. However, she wanted to talk to Matt first. Samantha and Matt have been in a relationship for about two years now. They went to prom together and graduated high school. During their senior year, Matt and his friends started a band: Avenged Sevenfold. They’ve been doing local shows for about a year or so while also working on their first album. They’ve recently been offered to join the Take Action tour. Right as she was going to call him the doorbell rang. Sam got up and opened the door to see Matt standing there in a pair of dark jeans and a Misfit’s muscle shirt. He smiled at her and gave her a hug as he walked into her house.

“Hey, baby!” greeted Sam as she hugged him.

“Hey, Sammy.”

“What’s up? I thought you’d be practicing with the guys today?” Sam asked with curiosity.

“Not right now. We’ll practice later,” replied Matt.

“Oh, ok. Just wondering cause I know you guys are going on-“

“Sam, I actually came here to talk to you about that,” said Matt, cutting her off suddenly.

Samantha noticed his face turn serious after cutting her off. Matt looked at Sammy as she looked at him with concern in her eyes. He immediately began to feel dread soar through his body.

“What do you want to talk about, Matt? Everything ok?”

Matt doesn’t answer her right away as silence fills the room.

“Sammy, I don’t want to do this but we can’t be in a relationship right now,” Matt confessed slowly with a look of sorrow.

Samantha stared at him, mouth agape as she took in his words. He’s breaking up with me? she thought to herself. She turned away from his somber hazel eyes to look down at her shoes, her lip starting to tremble.

“What did I do, Matt? Or better yet who ‘s the other girl?” Samantha inquired through gritted teeth, still looking away.

Matt felt anger rush over him as she questioned him. How could she think it was her fault? Did she think he would actually cheat on her?

“Samantha, it has nothing to do with you. And you know damn fucking well I would never cheat on you,” Matt said with a scowl.

“I’m going on tour and I’m not sure if our relationship can handle the long distance. I think it would be best if we end the relationship to at least save our friendship… I’ll still be your best friend no matter what.”

Samantha was trying hard to keep in the sob that wanted to escape her body. She looked at him and nodded. She wasn’t going to fight with him.

“Fine, whatever you think is best,” said Sam, still trying to keep it together.

Matt couldn’t stand to look at her. He could see her body trembling slightly. Samantha then remembered her job offer. She knew she could either ask his opinion about it or be bitter and just announce it. She decided the latter since she wouldn’t need his opinion anymore.

“I’m moving to Chicago, Matt.”

Matt’s head snapped up as his eyes met with her intense dark brown orbs. Now knowing she wouldn’t be here when he got back from tour broke him completely. He continued to stare at her, sadness darkening his hazel eyes. After two minutes of bitter silence, Matt stood up and starting walking to the door.

“Matt-“

“Have a nice life in Chicago, Samantha.” Matt said bluntly as he walked out the door and slammed it behind him.

Samantha’s vision blurred as her eyes began to water, a loud sob coming from her mouth.

“He said he would always stand by me,” Sam said to herself as she sat on the floor, holding her knees to her chest.

~

Samantha shook her head at the memory that haunted her mind constantly. She looked at the clock that sat to her right; 9:00pm flashed in red light.

“I’m heading to bed. Night, Rene” Samantha said as she walked somberly towards her bedroom.

Rene watched her mate, knowing exactly what was going through her head. The same thought that hassled her apartment mate for the past 7 years.

“Night, Sammy.”

Samantha changed into a green long sleeved shirt and pajama pants before throwing herself onto her bed and slipping under the covers. She needed to get some sleep before heading to the airport the next morning.

@DaniVengeance @FoREVer_ShadowZ I had an absolute blast writing this story. I'm so sorry that it has to end so soon but I was thinking about writing a threequel to this story when I have a break from school. But I'm not sure if I should or not.
