Carry On

After the embarrassment of walking down the aisle in an odd bridesmaid dress, and the awkward ceremony sat next to Zack, aaaaand the wedding photos - it was time for dinner. Me, Zack, Van & Mike and Vans dad all say on the long top table. Of course because I'm the unluckiest person in the world - I was sat next to Zack. Thankfully he was sweetly helping Vans grandmother up the stairs to get into the main venue, so he wasn't here yet. I took my chance to freshen up. I went to my hotel room to touch up my hair & makeup, I also sprayed myself with several different complementary perfumes. Once I was back down, he was in his place.

"Excuse me" I briefly asked trying to squidge my bloated after pregnant stomach past Zackys stuck out chair.

"Man, sorry" he sighed worryingly making sure I was sat down alright. "Sorry about that"

"Don't worry about it" I smiled taking a gulp of red wine.

"Good?" He laughed.

"Mm. It's been a while" I raised my eyebrows and drank more. "I should slow down, the maid of honor shouldn't be legless"

"Remember your wedding?"

"Oh.. Emma was pretty drunk wasn't she? I couldn't even drink then because I was pregnant"

Having normal friendly conversations with Zack felt amazing. Just to talk to such a close friend after almost a year apart was perfect. It seemed that he was over me, I was bound to ask of any girlfriends soon so I'd find out..

"Course you were, yeah I remember you were on non alcoholic cocktails and pepsi all night" he chuckled. The way he laughed seemed to have become more strong as if he'd suddenly felt conscious of his cute goody smile. His head always bowed down and hid away, and then his hand crept up and hid his features. We laughed like we used too, over nothing in particular. Something un funny we'd remember would set us off, and we just wouldn't stop.


"I've missed this" I admitted. He seemed happy I'd missed our closeness.

"Yeah, so have I"

"Are you both down for the seafood platter for the starter?" The waitress asked holding to giant plates.

"Yeah" we smiled.

It took a while for us to eat the starter because it was huge. Zack forced an oyster down my neck even after I refused too. But, we had a laugh again and it felt great. The mains came, and then the desserts, it wasn't long till everybody in the hall had eaten and was ready for the night time part of the wedding.

Speeches first.

"Well, as Renee would know from her wedding - I suck at speeches" Zack declared. "But, first I'd like to say how pretty the little and big bridesmaids look over there, and the maid of honor, beautiful" he blushed. "All outshon however, by the bride. Vanessa you look stunning. I think you will all agree Mike is looking handsome as well. I haven't had much time to prepare a speech, but nevertheless I wish Mr & Mrs Jamieson the world of happiness"

"Aw thank you Zack" Van smiled. Zack soon handed over the microphone and my heart dropped.

"Well, shit" I nervously laughed, a few others did too. "I had no idea I had to say something, I was way to busy trying to get a watermelon out of me to write something. I guess, I could either make it short and sweet or I could tell you some embarrassing stories about our bride" I offered. A few people cheered. "Stories it is. Well, we were about 16, I'd just got my drivers licence so me and Van showed off a little...-"

After one or two stroies, I'd gained some respect from people. Also after the speeches, the music started and people started to dance. Me and Zack drank and drank, till we were tipsy.
