Carry On

I'd spent the majority of the day rethinking what Zacky told me yesterday. I'd even forgotten to take myself and Gracie round until about half 5.

When I did get to our house, Brian had been drinking all day. It was time for a regretful lecture.

"You're daughter, is in that living room waiting to spend some time with her father. She doesn't want a kiss when you're breath stinks of whiskey and fags?! You'll frighten her with your, tired eyes and you're lowness. This isn't the daddy she loves"

"Am I not? Well, maybe Zack is.." he slurred pouring himself a tall glass of pure Jack Daniels.

"Did you not just hear me? You're daughter is in there" I yelled. "I should just go"

"Yeah you should, you need to go, and grow the fuck up" he sniggered taking a large gulp, shuddering once it had shot down.

"Me? I need to grow up, of course" I nodded.

"Yeah, I am a perfectly capable father. And if it's alright with you, I'm going to go talk to my child" he barged past me, nearly making me fall over. I mumbled a petty, 'prick' under my breath and followed him into the room. He sat on the floor with Gracie, still with the glass in his hand. I quickly snatched it away from him, and placed it on the coffee table. "What you playin'?" he asked giving her a sweet smile.

"I'm deciding what toys to take to Uncle Zackys. He promised he'd play with me tonight, but I didn't pack any of my toys apart from my night teddy but that's for bed only.."

"Ah," he sighed not at all liking the idea of the whole situation. "So, what are you taking?"

"Well," she huffed. "I thought of taking my dollies, but I don't think Uncle Zacky would want to play with dollies. I might just take the ball outside so we can play on his really big garden"

"You like his garden huh?"

"Yeah it's so much bigger than the one we have!! It has a pool and I even have my costume with me because he promised as well we can go swimming!"

"Great" Brian said sarcastically. He reached for his drink, but shamefully fell face planting the carpets.

"Daddy you're silly" Grace tutted. "Get up"

"Don't talk to me like that young lady"

"I didn't say anything I just said get up!" she moaned letting out a long sigh.

"Yeah I heard what you said Gracie"

"Daddy will you stop being horrible?"

"Gracie Haner, I have had enough of you're crap!" he groaned lifting himself up, throwing himself onto the sofa.

"Brian!" I snapped. "Come on sweetie, I think daddy is tired"

"Yeah.. let's go mommy" she held her arms up for me, and I picked her up along with her bag. "Bye daddy. Love you"

"Uh-huh" he sighed.

When we got back to Zacks, Gracie cried for a while. It really hurt her that Brian didn't say I love you back. I was beyond annoyed with him for being such a drunken ass, I almost couldn't wait for Zacky to come home so he could cheer us up.

Speaking of the devil, the door opened and finally he was here.

"Ren?" he shouted.

"In the room"

"Hi," he walked through, with a woman behind him. For some reason, I was pretty devastated. With what he told me last night, I just seemed to feel weirdly about him. He wasn't Zack, my bestfriend anymore. He was, a gorgeous man who was head over heals for me.

"Oh," I stuttered. "Hi"

The woman looked as confused as me.

"Sorry Gena - this is Renee and little Gracie who I told you about" Zack brushed Grays hair back and she gave a cute shy smile.

"Yeah, I think you mentioned them once..or twice" she said sarcastically. I blushed a little, and giggled like a teenager. "I'm Gena"

"Hi Gena" I smiled.

"They're staying with me for a while, problems at home" Zack said.

"Oh right" she seemed pretty uncomfertable with me being here. Guess it was my que.

"Uhm, so, we'll be upstairs outta the way" I smiled awkwardly. I picked Gray up and slid past Gena and Zacky, making my way upstairs.

"Everything ok momma?"

"Yeah, course" I laughed nervously. God knows why I felt so weird with Zack having a girl over. I was.. married. I shouldn't feel like this. It couldn't be jealously. Could it..?

"Hey," Zack poked his head around the door and walked in once we had acknowledged we were in the room. "Uhm, you, alright?"

"Yeah, no, I'm fine" I shook everything off and stood up to meet him. "Really I am"

"Come here," he smiled pulling me in for a hug.

"So, Jenny! She seems great" I nodded.

"Gena is lovely" he chuckled. "But, nah"

"No?"

"Nerrrrrh" he joked. "I'll leave you two too it. She's just called a cab, so, she won't be here much longer"

Once Gracie was off, I just had to talk to him.
