Hostage

Matt’s POV

I had a hard night behind me… a lot of tossing and turning until I had finally found some sleep…
I woke up the next morning, the sun was already up and shining through my window, I groaned when a headache started to form…

I was still thinking about Val’s last words…
What was she talking about?

I turned around and wanted to just go back to sleep, but I had some things to do today, since I had talked to Val yesterday and I think I made myself clear this time I had another talk ahead of me.
I had to talk to Alicia finally, and I had to clear the situation between us.

I kicked the blanket away and walked out of my bedroom.
Val told me to call Zack, he had something he wanted to talk to me about… but what could that be?
Where was my phone anyway, I could call Alicia right away so I could ask her for a meeting.

I walked into the kitchen and then to the living room, shit where was my phone?
Then I remembered Val had taken it out of my hand at the door, when I came home yesterday.
I walked to the front door and on the dresser I saw my phone.
I pushed the on button and waited. I saw a few messages pop up as well as some missed calls.
I frowned, one day I am not available and now everybody was calling me on that day?

I looked at the missed calls, 1 x Valary, 1 x Zack and finally the name I longed to see 1 x Alicia.
I saw that only Zack and Alicia left a message.
I dialed my voicemail and listened to the first message.

“Hey man, It’s Zack. Just call me back when you get this. Thanks”
Zacky’s voice faded and then he hung up.
I frowned, what did he want to talk to me about?

I listened further and my heart skipped a beat when I heard Alicia’s voice from my phone, I hadn’t realized how much I had missed her.
“Hey Matt, it’s Alicia. I… I promised to call you. So… I just wanted to let you know that I have the appointment today… at one o’clock. If you could be there… I mean.. want to… anyway…just so you know… Bye.”
OH NO, I listened to it again, to be really sure. Appointment, today… so that must have been yesterday, I told her I would be there… but I wasn’t…
I told her I would support her, what if she is ill… what if the cancer really was back?
OH FUCK! I am such an idiot!

I scrolled down to her number and called her immediately but she didn’t pick up.
“FUCK!”
I didn’t leave a message, I would call her friend… or maybe Zack, Zack must know where she was….
Maybe that was why he had also called me, because Alicia thought I didn’t want to talk to her?
Why does this have to be so fucked up?
What if she was in the hospital right now? Maybe that’s why Zack called!

I picked his number and after a few rings I heard his voice.
“Where is she? Is she alright?” I said before he could say anything.
“What? Alicia?” Zack asked a little surprised.
“Yes, of course. Is she alright? Have you heard from her after the hospital, she called me… but my phone was shut off, fuck! Do you know something?” I asked and hoped I didn’t tell him too much.
“I went with her to the hospital, she is fine. The cancer is not back, she is healthy. But Matt?”
I sighed loudly, “Thank god. What?”
“You really are an asshole!!” Zack said and sounded angry.
“What?”
“You heard me, she needed you as a friend, she told me you promised to be there and you weren’t. But thank god she was fine. She is at work now, they needed her, just send her a message or something. I need to go now, have some things to prepare.” With that he hung up.

“What the fuck??” Send her a message or something, fuck no.
I needed to see her and tell her how sorry I am…
And then Val’s other words came back to me…
“Oh Matt, I forgot, you should call Zack tomorrow, he wanted to talk to you, when you were on your Men’s day… sounded serious… hm… it’s already after midnight, so maybe you shouldn’t call him tonight anymore… but I should tell you this… oh and maybe you can congratulate him then. Oh I guess he will tell you tomorrow anyway, but don’t call him too early, he might have had a long night…. Good night Matt, sleep well.”

He might have a long night… and congratulate him… he was with Alicia… damn…
I really needed to see her, and talk to her, hear from her that everything was alright and if she really was with Zack or what was going on between them.
She told me where she was working, but I didn’t remember the name of the company… what was it again?!

Caroline’s POV

“Brad, I don’t really know what’s going on…” I looked over to Brad who helped Jamie get dressed.
“What do you mean?” Brad looked over at me.
“I mean with Alicia… I haven’t seen her since the BBQ. And I have a feeling that there is something going on… I don’t really know what.”
“What do you mean? Something going on? Don’t you think you are already making this too complicated and that you are thinking too much about everything?” Brad smiled at Jamie.
“Hey Buddy, will you brush your teeth now, I will bring you to the kindergarten in a few minutes.”
“Alright, Daddy.”Jamie walked out of the room and Brad turned towards me.

“No, I mean… I saw Matt and Alicia the whole evening, there is something going on between those two, but I didn’t get the chance to talk to Alicia about it. And then the thing with Zack, I really do like him, he makes her happy and cares for her, but… what if-”
“What? Do you think something happened between Matt and her?” Brad lifted his eyebrows at me.
“No, yes… I mean… I don’t know… something must have happened, but don’t know what… And then there are still the results to her second tests… What if she is ill again? She will break down, it would be even worse than the first time…”
Brad walked over to me grabbing me into his arms embracing me fully.
“What if you will just write her a message and ask her to come over? What do you think?” Brad asked and smiled at me when I didn’t answer he continued.
“Maybe she had many things in her head, maybe she even has good news… just write her… and if she won’t have time, just threaten her that we will come over otherwise… that will work, believe me.”
I looked up at my husband and grinned, “You are right, I will write her and invite her. I will find out what is going on… and what is behind all the things that happened to her… I want to be there for her, she is my best friend…” I sighed.
“I know babe, write her and after that we will know what’s going on, don’t be so concerned, everything will be fine.”
“Thank you, honey.” I tiptoed and kissed his lips softly.
“I will bring Jamie to the kindergarten, keep me updated, alright?” Brad smiled and I grinned back.
“I love you, you know that, right?”
“I know. How could you not, I am amazing.” Brad smiled and I slapped his chest.
“You are so full of yourself!”
“Yeah, another reason why you love me.” Before I could hit him again he walked away with a chuckle.
