Hostage

Matt’s POV

I parked the car in front of Brian’s house and saw Val’s car there as well. I sighed, this was a stupid idea. But there was no turning back now, they were waiting for me and the sentence the police officer said wouldn’t go out of my head anymore.
I should go back to my life and find my old rhythm, what if that meant going back to Val?
What would be more normal than my life before I broke it off…?
I shook my head, no. I broke it off for a reason.

I got out of my car and walked to the front door, I rang the doorbell and waited for Brian to open. But not Brian opened, it was Val.
“There you are. We were waiting.” Val hugged me and I laid my arm around her.
“Thanks.”
We walked inside and Brian and Michelle were already sitting at the dinner table, a lot of takeout food on the table.
“Who else is coming?” I asked with a frown.
“No one, silly.” Val elbowed me in the side.
“We ordered just different kinds, because we didn’t know what you wanted… So Brian and I chose everything we know you loved.” Val pulled me to one of the chairs and we sat down.

We began to eat in silence and nobody was saying anything… It felt awkward. It never was like this with any of my friends.
“If you want to know something just ask.” I said and looked at each one of them.
“Sorry, man. We just… don’t want you to think about things that you try to forget or something.” “Don’t worry, I can handle a few questions. And if I don’t wanna answer them, I will let you know, alright? We have always been honest, I wouldn’t want to change it now.”I told them and I saw Brian sigh.
“You are right. So, how was it at the police station, any news?” Brian asked.
“No, nothing. They searched the hotel but couldn’t find a trace yet. Oh and by the way, you and Johnny should come over there tomorrow to also make your statement that you found me and Alicia running away from the hotel.” I told him while shoving food in my mouth and sighed.
Good how I missed real food, this was delicious.
“Me and Johnny? Why not Zack?” Brian asked and I shrugged. “Zack must have been there already.” “Oh.. alright. And you saw Alicia there?” Brian asked.
“No, I hoped so but she was there in the morning already. I will contact-” I started but Val interrupted me.
“Alicia? That was the girl with you right? Must have been horrible, I hope she will also go back to her life… you two need stability now.” Val said and patted my hand.
“Yes, that’s her.” I replied shortly, didn’t want to reveal too much of what had happened between me Alicia, before I have talked to her again.

The rest of the dinner went normal and we even had to laugh a little, Brian told us how Johnny was trying to solve the case with my disappearance, exactly how I thought he would.
That Zacky found the missing file of Alicia in the newspaper and kept contact with Alicia’s friend Caroline.
And finally all the phone calls, the picture they received but Brian refused to show it to me and the meeting between Johnny and Sean and finally having a lead on Alicia and me.

It was after midnight when we discussed everything and were done with our dinner.
“Alright, we are heading to bed now.” Brian announced and laid his arm around Michelle’s shoulder.
“I will better go now, too.” Val looked sad and started to walk to the door after saying goodbye to her sister and Brian.
I walked with her but before she could open the door I stopped her.
“Val, do you have a few more minutes?” I asked her and she smiled.
“Of course, Matty.” Val turned around and I motioned her back into the living room.
“Let us sit down.”
When we sat together on the couch Val looked at me expectantly.
“I just… before I disappeared I wasn’t nice to you. I mean…” What did I mean? What did I want to tell her?
“It’s okay Matt. We both agreed on the small break!” Val laid her hand on my thigh but I pushed it gently away.
When I wanted to let go, she held on to it.
“Matt, you need time. I know, don’t worry. I just want you to know, that I love you. Nothing has changed on my feelings for you. And I will give you the time that you need. If you want to have a few more days to recover, of course you can have them. I know that the whole tour and stress we were both working so much everything came together and that is what happens in the healthiest relationships. It’s okay.” Val was talking on and on and I needed to stop her.
“Val, that’s not it. I made a break to find out if there were still feelings for you.” Val looked at me and I saw her breathing in deeply.
“I don’t want to hurt you Val. Really, this whole abduction is making everything more confusing. I just can’t tell you that we are gonna be back together, I just can’t.”
“Did you miss me?” Val asked quietly.
“Fuck Val, don’t… don’t look like that. Yes, of course I missed you, but I missed everyone.” I finally pulled my hand away and laid my arm around Val’s shoulder pulling her to my side.
“Maybe we shouldn’t talk about this right now… maybe it’s too early for that.” I kissed her temple.
“You are right, but Matt don’t you think you should get to a normal rhythm again? What if we just start like that again? We could meet again for dinner tomorrow, I will bring Bella with me. We will just see where this gets us?” Val suggested and I knew that she still had hope that there would be an us again, while I thought that I was done with this topic.
And I knew I was an ass for not telling her that it’s over but I just couldn’t, my head was full of different things and in between was finding back to my own old life and my old life somehow was connected to Val! So what if she was the solution to go back to a normal life?

But when I closed my eyes I saw another woman before me. Alicia was there…
And again I was wondering how she found her way back to her life?!
I really needed to find out her number and contact her… Maybe I should call Zack, he had the number of her friend and she could give me Alicia number.
But that was a plan for tomorrow and not tonight.
I pushed Val softly away.
“Alright, we will have dinner tomorrow. You will bring over my baby girl Bella?!” I asked Val and she grinned.
“Yes, sure. She will be so happy to see you.” Val got up and I walked her towards the door.
I hugged her a final time and she walked towards her car, I waited until she was safely in her car and drove off.
Tomorrow, I decided… Tomorrow I would tell her that there was no us anymore…
