"So," Matt said after a few minutes of silence, "what do you do for a living Jessy?" "I'm a paramedic." I replied. "Cool," Matt said. I prayed his questioning was done because i hate talking about myself, but he carried on. "What do you like to do in your free time?" He questioned. "Well," I began, "I take karate, that's a huge part of my life. Other than that I swim and I golf." "Cool I golf too! Maybe we could golf together some day." Matt said happily. "Wait," Zack butted in, "you said you take karate, what belt are you?" "I'm a second degree black belt." I replied, trying not to sound as nervous as I was. "Damn," Johnny jumped in, "I am NOT fucking with her!" "I'm sure I could still take her!" Jimmy butted in. "Sure you could slimjim." Johnny said while pinching Jimmy's cheek. That act made the whole table break into laughter except for Jimmy, who sat with his arms folded, making the situation more funny.
"It's okay Jimmy, I'm sure you could beat me in a fight. But if you couldn't you can run fast so you've got that going for you." With those words Jimmy looked even more offended. By that point we were all done eating and the check was on the table. I picked up my purse and began to dig for my wallet. "I'm paying for your food." Zack said. "I can pay f....." "no," Zack interrupted me, "I'm paying, end of story." I opened my mouth to argue but Matt interrupted, "don't even bother, Jessy, it's no use." So I gave up.
We paid and went outside. Once out the door Zack stopped dead in his tracks and turned to look at me. "Where do you live?" He asked. "Long beach," I replied, "why?" "Well," he began, "you had mentioned that Will took the appartment and I live in long beach too and I was thinkin if you needed a place to stay....." his voice trailed off and he began to blush. "That might actually work," I began to respond, "I was thinking of staying with my little brother but it would double my drive to work so if you're really serious with that offer....." I looked at him and bit my lip ring. "Hell yeah I'm serious!" He nearly shouted, "We can stop and get you're stuff later on today and we'll have you moved in by tonight." "Allrighy then." I said. What the hell did I just do! Was my only thought as we loaded the bus.
