Danger Line (re-write)

Hospital

Hannah
“Sam, what the fuck are you doing here?” I asked, my voice sounding excited, surprised and still a little scared and completely confused.

“I’m on a job,” He choked “Mind easing the pressure a little?” He tapped my hand and I released, only a little bit though, he wasn’t getting away without an explanation, so he was going to remain on the floor.

“You still hate me that much, you wanna come and kill me?” I asked.

“I didn’t know it was you,” He admitted, and I believed him. I’d always been able to tell when he was lying “All I knew was your address and that you killed one of our guys,”

“One of your guys?” I was more than confused now “I thought it was just you and Dean working together?”

“Get the fuck off my brother you crazy bitch!” Before I could respond, I was tackled to the wooden flooring with a thud, a crack and a pop.

“Son of a bitch!” I exclaimed as Dean pinned me to the ground under his larger body.

“Holy shit!” He whispered “Hannah?”

“Uh huh!” I grunted, wriggling under him “Get your fat ass off of me,”

“It’s not fat,” He huffed, shifting off of me.

“Well, you have put on a few pounds since I last saw you,”

“Where was that again?” He asked and I narrowed my eyes at him, sitting myself up “Oh yeah, in the church, two years ago when you left my brother standing at the altar blubbering like a baby,”

Of course he would bring that up.

“You had to bring that up, didn’t you?” Sam asked.

“What?” Dean asked “You might not hate her for it anymore, but I sure as Hell do,”

“You don’t hate me anymore?” I asked Sam.

He stayed silent and looked at the ground.

“Anyway,” Dean cleared his throat, breaking the silence “Let’s get this job done, Sammy. Dad’s waiting for us back at the motel,”

“Whoa, wait, what?” I asked, jumping to my feet “You can’t kill me,” I laughed nervously “You guys know me,” I tried to raise my hands to defend myself, but my right arm didn’t lift, just burned with pain, making me cry out.

“What’s wrong with you?” Dean asked.

“I think your fat ass dislocated my shoulder,” I spat at him, feeling around my shoulder “Yeah, it did,”

“We gotta take her to the hospital, Dean.” Sam said firmly “And we’re not going to kill her, just take her there, get her fixed up and bring her back here, pretend like nothing happened,”

“Fuck no,” Dean laughed “Dad sent us after her because she got our biggest target killed a few months ago, and I’ll be damned if I’m keeping her alive, never mind making her better,”

“Come on,” Sam said, throwing Dean his keys that had fallen out of his pocket “We’re going to the hospital,”

“Thanks,” I whispered with a small smile towards Sam.

“Fine,” He growled “Fix yourself up first,” He pointed down at me, making me look down and realise that my robe had fallen open with all the rolling around and my blue panties and matching bra were on full display.

“Oh,” I blushed profusely as I tied it around myself again “Just a second, I gotta put some shoes on,”

“Here,” Dean spoke again, tossing me a pair of socks “Those will do,”

I hadn’t even realised he’d gone into my room, and no wonder Jack didn’t go crazy and savage him, he was too busy licking the bastard’s face, showing affection to the man he hasn’t seen in two years.

If I’d known Hannah was the hit, I would never have gone. Seeing her again was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do, and it’s not like we randomly bumped into each other in Starbucks, no, I broke into her house ready to kill her and she choked me with a baseball bat. But I felt bad that Dean had hurt her, and if she was left with a dislocated shoulder and whatever other injuries she might have because of his rough tackle, no doubt her dad would find out and then we’d have angry old gang members on our asses.

To say the drive from Hannah’s apartment to the hospital was awkward would be an understatement; Dean kept glaring and growling at Hannah in the rear view mirror while he drove, I sat in silence, Hannah occasionally hummed along with the radio that was on the lowest volume. It was the worst drive ever.

As we walked into the hospital, Dean stormed ahead, Hannah walked timidly behind him, cradling her arm to her chest and gripping onto her shoulder, supporting her elbow with her free hand and I walked beside her, figuring it would look odd if the three of us were together but walked into the hospital in a single file.

“My friend here has fallen down the stairwell in her apartment building,” Dean said as he reached the desk, taking the middle aged secretary by surprise.

“Oh,” She gasped “Alright dear,” She smiled at Hannah as we reached the desk “Fill out these forms and someone will be with you as soon as possible,” Hannah just smiled politely and nodded, taking the clipboard and pen from the woman before walking away and plopping herself in a seat.

I moved to join her, but Dean stopped me by grabbing my arm.

“What?” I hissed.

“We don’t have to wait with her, do we?” He asked, but the look I shot him answered his question and he let me go.

I sat down beside Hannah and watched as she struggled to write her own name in the first part of the form.

“Here,” I said gently, reaching over and taking the board and pen from her “Let me do it,” She didn’t say anything, just watched as I filled in her information.

“I’m surprised you remember all of this,” She chuckled softly.

“Of course I do,” I glanced at her, shooting her a small smile “But, since it isn’t me anymore, who is your emergency contact?”

“Uh…” She trailed off as though she had to think about it “Just put my dad,” She told me, shrugging, but wincing as she raised her shoulders.

“Alright,” I drawled, shaking my head as I filled in the rest of the form.

“Thank you, Sam.” She said sincerely, leaning her head on my shoulder “For everything,” She whispered.

I glanced down at her and realised that her eyes were closed. I wanted to shake her and make her stay awake, for all I know she could be going into shock from the pain coming from her injury, but given the fact that it’s almost three in the morning she could just be tired.

“Hannah?” I whispered.

“Hm?”

“I missed you,”

She slowly opened her eyes, looked up at me a little and smiled softly.

“I missed you, too.”

“Are you sure she fell down the stairs?” The doctor asked Dean and I for the fiftieth time since we were taken through so Hannah could be examined and fixed up. She was currently sleeping on the small bed in the corner of the room, doped up on pain medication.

“Yes,” Dean growled “For the last fucking time, we don’t know how she got the bruise around her neck, she’s a tough girl, always getting herself into all kinds of trouble,”

“Well which one of you is the fiancé?” He asked, pointing to her hand that was resting on her stomach.

How had I not noticed the rock on her finger? The damned thing was huge, bigger than the one I gave her, and she seemed to be wearing it proudly, but given the large hand shaped bruise around her neck, her busted knuckles and the slight smell of alcohol lingering in her hair, it seems that there’s more to this than what it seems.

“Neither of us,” I said finally “We’re old friends, we were visiting her tonight, we had some drinks and she was getting ready for bed when we decided to leave, she insisted on walking us out and on the way down the stairwell her foot missed the step and she fell down the rest of them,”

“And you don’t know anything about her neck?”

“No,” Dean and I growled at the same time.

“Okay, well I just need one of you to sign the discharge papers and then you can take her home,”

We did everything that needed to be done and one of the nurses wheeled a drowsy, but somewhat awake, Hannah out of the hospital and over to the car with us.

I thanked the nurse and helped Hannah into the car as the woman left. Dean and I climbed in and he took off much faster than necessary towards her apartment.
~~~~
“I’ll take her in,” I said, getting myself out of the car and reaching into the back for Hannah who was completely passed out, snoring softly to herself.
Once she was settled in my arms with her head against my chest I walked inside the building, humming our song to her in the hopes of keeping her asleep.
She hadn’t locked the door when we left so I could open it easily and let us inside. Without turning on any lights I walked through the living room and into her bedroom, placing her gently on top of the duvet beside the dog, he licked her hand gently and whined a little.
“She’ll be alright, Jack.” I told him, brushing her hair out of her face “She’ll be alright,”
This was not how I expected my night to end, sitting on the edge of my ex-fiancé’s bed while she sleeps soundly, filled with painkillers because my brother dislocated her shoulder. But during the time I’ve been with her, although slightly awkward, I haven’t felt this content in a long time… in two years. She still fits perfectly into my arms, she smells the way she used to, her big blue eyes still look into mine with as much love as they used to (or maybe I’m imagining things), and her smile… well her smile still makes my heart melt into a puddle in the bottom of my stomach.
“There’s something you’re hiding,” I whispered to her, knitting my eyebrows together “And I’m going to find out who he is and what he’s doing to you,”
I stood to leave, turning back to look at her before closing her bedroom door.
“I love you,” I whispered, and left.
Notes
Sam and Dean! Looks like Dean still hates Hannah for what she did, but Sam still loves her after everything. He knows her too well and is determined to find out what's going on in her life.
How do you think he will react when/if he finds out what's going on with Matt?
More to come! (:
