I Lost Me Long Ago

The Female Man

Carsea had woken up early this morning, which wasn’t a normal thing for her. But she had work to do today, any normal day she would have slept in till about noon- and eventually crawl into work. But alas today was not one of those days.

She was a photographer for a music magazine. It wasn’t a job she went after, some much as she just fell into it. A guy that she knew from the homeless shelter she stayed at, was a part of a band and asked if she wouldn’t mind doing some pictures for them.

It started out small, just one show every other week or so, and it really wasn’t much for pay. But when they started to get more gigs they still used her. She knew it probably had a lot to do with the fact that the drummer, Ian, had the hugest crush on her. But she didn't return his feelings- in no way did she find him attractive. But when he offered to let her stay at his place she didn’t turn him down.

She got herself ready, showered, made up, did her hair. All the normal jazz that comes with looking half way presentable for the world. She slipped into a tight, black tank top, a pair of skinny jeans, and her black boots. It wasn’t the least bit cold today but she wrapped her black and white lace, skull scarf around her neck.

She grabbed her shoulder bag which she had packed the night before with her notepads, pens, and camera equipment. As well as a change of clothes just in case. She always ended up needing the change of clothes, for one reason or another so she always had them.

The few days a month that Carsea actually had to go in early to work she caught a ride with Josh. Who always met her with a coffee and bagel. He came across her work as the band she was working for started to actually hit it big in the area they lived in. Wanting photos of the band for the piece they were writing up on them he sent down his own photographer.

The poor guy was shot down at the door. The members of the band made sure no one came in to any gig with a professional camera besides Carsea. So when the photographer came back without photos Josh, contacted the band directly and they sent him to little Miss Carsea Massey.

They slipped into the car, not a word was spoken. After almost two years of working with Carsea, Josh had learned two thing about her. One, she wasn’t a morning person by no means. Two, she didn’t like speaking at all until after a cup of coffee, a small meal, and she read at least one chapter of whatever book she was reading that day.

It worked perfectly for them. It gave him time to make a few calls before he got into the office as well as enjoy his breakfast for the morning. By the time he was done there was about 10 minutes left in the car ride, depending on traffic, and they used that time to talk.

This morning she was finishing up the final chapters of The Female Man, By Joanna Russ. She loved books she would read just about anything. But this month was all about reading the top 10 sci-fi books written by female authors.

As she put the final bite of bagel with strawberry cream cheese into her mouth she finished up the last sentence to the final chapter, and closed it as she placed it in her lap.

Josh glanced over at her and smiled, he was a very handsome man. His dark eyes met her hazel eyes and he blushed a bit. Carsea always had an idea that maybeeee he had a thing for her. But she was never quite sure.

"So how was it?" He chirped as he brought his eyes back to the road. He couldn't help being so cheery in the mornings and she knew that. So she always tried not to take it out on him. He did always give her, her time. So it was the least she could do.

"It was very good. I’ll probably re-read it on the ride to Oak City." She took one of the few remaining sips of her coffee and placed it between her legs.

"That good, huh." He chuckled, and cleared his throat.

"Uh-oh, what is it?" He always cleared his throat just before he was going to ask someone to do something and he knew they'd rather not do the task. He chuckled again, and slipped another glance at her.

"I’m going to need you to do that interview with the headliner tonight." She just waited, he knew what she would be asking next, and she knew him well enough to know he would answer without even asking.

"Look Car, I’m in a tight place. That slacker David that I hired last month got completely drunk last night at the show he went to and…." he sighed, she already knew she would say yes, but a small part of her liked to watch him squirm.

"He missed his flight back from Arizona. If I didn’t have June…"

"I’ll do it, Josh. I already packed the note pads and pens." She cut him off but he wouldn’t mind.

"You are God sent Car. Thank you so much."

Notes

So the next chapter should bring in the boys. I promise. :) I've been up all night writing.

Lemme know if there's a wording problem or whatever.
(Speaking of I went threw and touched a few places up.)

Thanks for reading, lemme know what you think!

Just wanted to say for whatever reason I can't get into my account anymore and I'm using a new account to finish writing this. Not sure why it won't let me back in. :(
