Conjuring Her Deepest Fears

Chapter 11

Matt's vision was blurry as he opened his eyes. He had no idea where he was. It was strange. He didn't even remember going to sleep. But he was on the floor. What happened?
Suddenly, he remembered where he was and he remembered what happened. He was laying in Brian's basement and he had been knocked out. Matt sat up and grabbed his head. His hair was damp and the smell of blood filled the air. Matt leaned his head back against the wall and closed his eyes again. The pain in his head was almost unbearable. But then he remembered...Brian. He opened his eyes to see Brian still sitting in the chair. His eyes were closed and his head was leaned over to the side. Matt could see him breathing and was glad to know he was alive. Brian's breathing was slow and relaxed, so he must have been asleep. A trail of blood went from a puddle by Brian's feet all the way to where Matt was sitting, indicating he had been dragged. "Fuck..." Matt groaned and grabbed his head again.
After looking around for a minute, Matt heard Brian mumble. He looked at him. "Brian," Matt whispered. No answer. Matt looked down and noticed his right hand was handcuffed to a pipe that came out of the wall and went into the floor. He turned back to Brian and tried to get a little closer. "Brian," he whispered a little louder. Still no answer. His wrist ached in pain from the hand cuffs and he jerked his hand forward. Matt wasn't going anywhere.
The quiet was replaced by footsteps coming down the stairs. Matt quickly laid back down and closed his eyes, pretending to be asleep. The footsteps reached the bottom of the stairs and started towards him. On the inside, he was panicking, but on the outside, he appeared to be out cold. He was scared of what she was going to do to him. Was she going to kill him? Did she have a knife? A gun? His predictions were false. He felt her nudge him with her foot. "You'll wake up sooner or later," she mumbled. The footsteps started away from him and Matt slowly opened his eyes. Rain stood facing away from him and faced Brian. She slapped him hard and gripped his shirt. "Wake up," she demanded. Brian opened his eyes and looked at her. "What?" he asked in a weak voice. "You better be awake when I come back. We're going to spend some quality time together." Brian looked to Matt then looked back at her. He just nodded. Matt closed his eyes when Rain started back up the stairs. "She's gone," Brian said after a few minutes. He opened his eyes again and slowly sat up. "How is this happening?" Matt asked. Brian shrugged. "I've convinced myself that God is punishing us. I don't know. What's you're theory?" Matt ignored his question. "We have to get out of here." "Good luck with that," Brian said. "She's got the keys and I can't untie myself. We're fucked and most likely dead."
Brian looked down and Matt jerked at his wrist again. "I can probably pull this small pipe loose," Matt said. Brian just scoffed. "Yeah. Sure you can." Matt glared at him. "Well, at least I'm trying. I don't see you doing anything." Brian glared back at him. "I CAN'T do anything, fuck wad." He shook his head and closed his eyes. Matt tugged at his wrist again, but soon gave up. "There has to be some way out of this." "There is no way out of this. We fucked up. Now, we're going to have to pay," Brian replied. "I wouldn't be in this situation if it wasn't for you," Matt snapped. Brian opened his eyes. "What?" "You fucking heard me. You dragged me into this." "I didn't drag you into anything." "Bullshit. You didn't have a fucking right to kill her, but I guess you were to pissed to care." Brian glared at him again. "I care about my wife," he said through his teeth. "Yeah, I can see that," Matt replied. Brian shook his head. "Out of all the people I could be stuck with, it just HAD to be you." Matt got up on his knees and tugged at his wrist hard, then turned back to Brian. "I didn't ask for this. Don't sit there and act like I did." "Well, I didn't either," Brian said. "Yes the fuck you did." "You know what, Matt? Fuck you. I didn't need you then, I don't need you now." Matt got quiet. There was a silent moment, then Matt asked, "So it's every man for themselves?" Brian tried to break free, but stopped and gave Matt a stern look. "You're damn right it is."

Val grabbed her phone and dialed Matt's number. He had been gone for an awful long time and she was getting worried. But the phone rang and rang without any answer. She then texted him saying, "where r u?" After waiting a few minutes she checked her phone. No answer. "What's taking him so long?" she asked herself. She tried calling Brian's number. The phone rang about three times, but then there was an answer. "Hello?" It was a female voice. "Hey, Rain. Is Matt over there?" "He sure is," she answered. "He's downstairs with Brian. Do you need to speak to him?" "Um, no. Can you just tell him to give me a call?" "Yes, ma'am. I will." "Okay. Thanks, Hun." "Oh, no need to thank me, Valarie." Val just smiled. "Well, I'm gonna let you go back to whatever you were doing. Bye." "Bye." Valarie hung up the phone and sat there. Something was off about Rain. She was acting...different. The way she spoke just wasn't how she normally talked. Val just shook the though and went into the kitchen.

"Oh, Matt," Rain sang as she came down the steps. Matt jerked his head up. She stopped a couple of feet away. "Valarie just called. I could tell the poor thing is worried about you." He glared at her. "Well, maybe you should let me go so I can go home." "No, I don't think that's a good idea." Matt looked at Brian then back to her. "You're beef isn't with me. It's with him," he said nodding his head towards Brian. He felt his eyes on him. Brian felt betrayed. Is he seriously trying to leave him for dead? He can't do that! "Actually," Rain said. "It's with the both of you. You helped him, Matt. I know what happened. And I don't think I can let ya get away with that." She stood and folded her arms. "Look at you two. You're so pathetic. You're being held captive by a girl." Rain looked back and forth between the two. She scoffed. "I know 5-year-olds smarter than you dumbasses." Brian looked down and gritted his teeth. He was getting really pissed off at this point. If he was going to have to kill her twice, then so be it.
