Not a bad thing

Izzie’s POV
No! No! No! Why do I let Lynn persuade me to drink so much every fucking time?! Lizzy and her were filling my glass again and again. They better have a hangover too! I heard someone moan next to me in bed, I turned around. Ha! Lynn doesn’t sound like she’s feeling very well either. Suddenly my phone started blasting. “Nooooo turn it offf!!!” Lynn groaned next to me. I took my phone of the nightstand, looking at the caller ID to see who it was. Matt! I picked up and whispered “Matt, it’s Izzie, wait a second, okay?” I got out of bed and grabbed a sweater. As I entered the livingroom I saw Lizzy on my couch, sleeping like a baby. I took a bottle of water out of the fridge, snatched my sunglasses from the table and went outside quietly.

“Matt? You still there?”
“What were you doing?”
“I was just waking up, the girls stayed over at my place, so I had to get outside to let them sleep”
“You sound a little hung over, Iz”
“You sound awfully chipper” I replied.
Matt chuckled. “I’m never hung over. I let you in on my secret, because I like you. Loads of water, loads and loads of water”
“I already grabbed a bottle of water and I will make the girls some late breakfast. It will clear my head, it always does.”
“Iz?”
“Yes?”
“I kinda missed you”
“I kinda missed you too Matt, I really want to see you again”
“That’s what I called you about. Do you want to do a hangover afternoon movie?”
“Yes! I like that, are you going to pick me up?”
“Of course I will, I see you later then, bye Izzie”
“Bye, Matt”

I hung up my phone with a big smile on my face. I could think of lot worse ways to spend my hangover afternoon. I was looking forward sitting in the dark for a few hours with Matt.

I walked back into the house, Lizzy was just waking up and Lynn was already in the kitchen, making coffee “Could you please ask that boyfriend of yours not to call that early, ever again?” she groaned. “He is not my boyfriend”. “Yet” Lizzy said, walking into the kitchen rubbing her eyes. “I never have a hangover, but my head is pounding now” she complained. “What was in those damn cocktails?” Lynn chuckled “At the end I just threw everything in” Lizzy looked at her angry “Ow my god, I hate you”. She sat down at my kitchen counter, with her head in her hands. I put my hand on her back “You will soon feel better, I promise, I’m making breakfast.”

I started to round some things up and within half an hour we were all silently eating our breakfasts. Lizzy went to the bathroom to take a shower and Lynn and I were just sitting next to each other. Our quiet time was roughly interrupted when Brian entered my house “My dearest ladies! How are you today on this beautiful morning!” He hugged me and kissed my cheek and walked over to Lynn “Izzie, you better avert your eyes for a minute, this will make you very jealous” he said with a big grin on his face, before grabbing Lynn, kissing her as if he hadn’t seen her in 6 months. Lynn went with it completely, she needed space, but that aside, she was falling in love with Brian, I could just see it.

When they both finally got up for air I asked Brian if he wanted to have some coffee, while Lynn showered. We chatted a little, talking about our night and the night the guys had. After Matt made them hand in the phones they actually had fun. “Matt was acting a little strange, he was texting too, but he wouldn’t tell with who. Unfortunately I couldn’t get a hold of his phone, but I think he has some kind of girl at his demands again.” I felt my cheeks turn red, fortunately Lizzy chose that moment to walk into the kitchen, all freshly showered.

“Hi Bri, good morning” she walked over to him, to give him a hug. He gave her this half hug, looking at her angry. “Don’t “good morning Bri”, me. What the hell is wrong with you?!” Lizzy looked at him amazed “What the hell is wrong with me? I need a little more than that, Brian! What are you yelling at me for?!” She was mad now. “What the fuck Brian?!” I looked at them, apparently I found myself in the middle of a fight and I didn’t understand what this was about. From the look on Lizzy’s face, she hadn’t had a clue either. “Brian, Lizzy, calm down, what is wrong?” Lizzy and I exchanged a look when Brian finally spoke up “Well, maybe Elisabeth should be explaining what she was kissing Zacky for?” Lizzy’s head was turning red very quickly and then she regained her calm. “Zack told you? He didn’t have the right. He kissed me, nothing more, nothing less, that was it. There will not be any more. We are friends, it was a stupid mistake” Brian stood in front of her, looking her in the eyes “What was it about?! Why did you two kiss all of a sudden? And why the fuck didn’t you tell me?” Lizzy poured herself another coffee “We were drunk, that’s it. And I don’t have to tell you everything. You are not my dad Brian, I kissed more men without you knowing” Lizzy had completely calmed down now and I could see she was just trying to get through this without drawing to much attention. Brian muttered “But none of them will be one of my best friends” Lizzy chuckled “How do you know that? I was planning on kissing Matt tonight” Brian groaned “You are not funny Liz. I don’t want you with Zacky or with Matt for that matter, they are both not good with women” Lizzy turned around “That’s nice Brian, saying something like that about your best friends. And even then, what makes you think you have the right to decide who I kiss with? I can make up my own mind, determine my next quest myself, just as you do for yourself”. Lizzy started walking for the bedroom “I’m done talking to you about this Brian, you don’t decide what’s good for me or not. I can take care of myself” She slammed the door in his face. He turned towards me “Can you just believe her?! I’m only taking care of her.”

Lynn came into the kitchen again “What was that all about?” she asked. “Brian and Lizzy got into a fight, because Brian found out Lizzy and Zacky shared a kiss” Lynn glared at me as if she wanted to say “does he know we already knew?” Fortunately an awkward moment was prevented, because of an angry Brian wanting to leave soon “Lynn, you ready to go?” Lynn shrugged “Yeah, sure, let me get my stuff”

I watched them drive away. Brian looked really mad, but I understood Lizzy’s point. Why did he think he had the right to determine what’s good for her. I walked into the bedroom to look for Lizzy. She was lying on my bed, staring at the ceiling. “I hate him for this you know? He never even asked how I was in all of this, the only thing he cares about is me not starting something with Zack, because he said so. Zacky hurt me, and I can’t even tell my best friend about it” She sighed. “I guess that whole Zacky thing is out in the open now huh?” I shrugged, “I guess”. Lizzy got up from the bed “I need to go home. I need to clear my head a little. I’m done with the whole Zacky fiasco. He didn’t want me, and now I’m still feeling miserable about this. It has to end, I’m moving on” She sounded brave, I didn’t know is she really felt it, but I was rooting for her. “I hope you will feel better soon. Should I drive you home?” She shook her head “No thanks, I think I will walk, it will help me clear my head”. Lizzy grabbed her bag and left my house. All alone again I decided to take a bath and just relax untill Matt gets here. It has been enough drama for one morning.

Lizzy’s POV
I walked home thoughtlessly. I couldn’t believe Brian bursting in like that. Thinking he could just tell me what to do. He should have known better, he knows I will only be more pigheaded with him reacting like this. I kicked a stone that was lying in my way. Why, oh why are all the important men in my life such assholes! Without realizing it, I already arrived at my apartment building. I saw a truck standing in front of it. Apparently someone was moving in or out. I normally don’t pay much attention to my neighbours, and frankly I don’t give a shit either, as long as they weren’t bothering me.

Entering the building I bumped into a man, who was too busy looking around to notice me. “Ow excuses me! I’m so sorry! Please forgive me!” he stumbled over his words. “I’m new here and I was just trying to find my way around a little. I’m not really sure about how this building is working I think.” Him explaining himself so elaborately gave me the chance to have a good look at him. He was very handsome. He had the bluest eyes I’ve ever seen, his hair was short, reddish blonde and a little curly and he just had the friendliest face. Maybe I should pay some more attention to my neighbours from now on. He put his hand out to me “Tom” I shook his hand “Elisabeth, but my friends call me Lizzy”. “Well Elisabeth, I just moved into 8a, do you live in this building too?” I looked at him, damn, those eyes! “Yes, I’m in 5a. If you need anything, just stop by. Talk to you later Tom”. I got on the stairs and walked to my apartment. I put away my stuff and decided to lie down for an hour, my head was still hurting me.

A sound of my doorbell ringing woke me up. I was cold. I put on a sweater and walked for the door. There they were again, those beautiful blue eyes. “Hi Elisabeth, I was wondering if I could take you out for coffee? I just moved everything into my apartment and I don’t feel like clearing away all my stuff right away, so I need to get out for a while. And since you’re the only one I know here, I was hoping you could rejoice me with your company?” I smiled, why the hell not? “Well Tom, I would love to. Give me half an hour to clean myself up. I meet you downstairs?” “Great! See you in half an hour!” I’ll be damned, this day just got interesting.
