Alpha and Omega

Roxanne

Brian walked around his house as he thought about how to get his husband back. He stopped at one of the guest rooms… and thought about how maybe a nursery wouldn’t be so bad. He finishes the last of whiskey in his glass before heading back to the kitchen. It was his turn to watch Leana, so Val wouldn’t grab her again. Leana was due any minute and her belly showed it.
Brian refilled her glass of water, “Want something to eat?”
“Well,” said Leana, “Could I bother you for a grilled cheese?”
Brian smiled, “It’s no bother at all.”
After Brian made the sandwich Leana requested, he sat down next to her.
“How is she doing?” Brian asked.
Leana rubbed her tummy, “She awake and kicking a little. You wanna feel?”
Brian’s face lit up, “I’d love to.”
Leana guides Brian’s hand up to the side of her stomach. He could the baby kicking against his hand. He couldn’t but smile.
“Hey little one,” he murmured to Leana’s tummy, “It’s Uncle Brian.”
Leana giggled softly as she ate her sandwich. Brian took her empty plate to the sink.
“Oh boy,” said Leana.
Brian turned his head, “What is it?”
Leana turned her head to Brian, “My water just broke.”

---x---

Brian drove as fast as he legally could. His phone propped to his ear by his shoulder.
“What’s up?” Jimmy said when he picked up.
“Leana’s water broke,” Brian said as calmly as he could, “I’m taking her to the hospital now. Come when you can.”
“Okay,” Jimmy replied before hanging up.

Leana set up in the hospital, ready to push.
“Brian please stay,” Leana begged, “I need support.”
Brian nodded as he stayed by her side and held her hand.
“The baby is crowning,” the nurse informed the doctor.
“Alright,” said the doctor, “Give us a big push.”
Leana grunted as she did. She took a couple deep breaths.
“Another push,” the doctor ordered.
Leana squeezed Brian’s hand as she pushed. Brian didn’t care that his hand was dark pink.
“You're doing well,” said the doctor, “One more big push.”
Leana screamed as she gave it her all. Soon, they could hear crying… from the new baby girl.
“You’ll need to step outside the room for a minute so we can them cleaned up,” said the doctor.
Brian nodded and left the room… and was lucky to get a glimpse of his niece. He saw Jimmy and the others running towards him.
“Are they okay?” Jimmy asked.
“They’re both fine,” Brian answered, “They are getting cleaned up. We should be able to visit them in a few minutes… but I did get to see your new daughter…… She’s beautiful, Jimmy.”
“Really?” Jimmy murmured, “Who does she look like more?”
“She has your eyes and hair color,” Brian answered, “but she’s got more of Leana’s features.”
Jimmy smiled, “Good, I don’t think I would look good as a girl.”
The others chuckled.
The nurse came out, “The mother is still get cleaned up, but I thought you would like to see her. Who’s the lucky father?”
Jimmy held out his hands, “I am.”
“Congratulations,” said the nurse as she handed Jimmy the baby, “Once everything is settled, we will have someone come in to fill out the birth certificate.”
Jimmy nodded and then looked at his daughter. Everyone huddled over. The baby girl looked at her Daddy and Uncles while putting her fingers in her mouth.
“Can… can I hold her?” Brian asked.
Jimmy smiled wide, “Of course.”
Brian felt his heart strings tug around in his chest as he held his newborn niece. The little girl looked up at Uncle Brian. She reached her little hands to Brian’s shoulder length hair that he’s been keeping for when he finds Matt. She holds locks of his silky hair in her small fists. She didn’t pull his hair, she just like the way it felt. She rubbed the hair between her fingers. Brian placed a kiss on top of her head that had very little hair. She giggled and released Brian’s hair. Brian handed her over Johnny so everyone got a chance to hold her.
“You can come to the room,” the doctor informed once the baby came back to Jimmy.
Leana smiled the moment she saw Jimmy with their daughter.
“Did you have a name?” a nurse said with a clipboard.
“Roxanne,” said Leana, “Roxanne Taylor Sullivan.”
“Are you sure Babe?” Jimmy asked, “What about the names YOU picked out?”
“I like this one you picked,” Leana said.
Jimmy nodded and smiled, “Okay.”
He walked over and handed Roxanne to Leana.
Brian watched how Leana and Jimmy were so happy with their child. He began to think……

Maybe having children isn’t a bad idea after all…
