Chapter 43

The lights went out all around, and a deep chuckle emitted through the radio. "Watch out for the monsters in the dark." the deep voice said before the radio cut out completely. Boyd's heart started to pick up a little, "How?" he whispered out to no one in particular. Williams' eyes snapped to the giggle in the dark. "E.T. phone home." Tammy said as her laughter took over. Boyd jumped up from his chair causing it to fall backwards. "You fucking did this." he sneered as he walked around the desk. "Wow you're not as dumb as you look." Tammy said as he started to unlock her cuffs.

Shots started to ring out from outside, and a loud explosion caused everyone's eyes to snap to the window. Boyd had only gotten Tammy's ankles free, so she sat patiently with a grin as the four men in the trailer looked out. Williams eyes narrowed on smoke in the distance, and saw several of his men headed in that direction. "You three get out there. Kill on sight." he said turning from the window, to the remaining men he had left with him. They quickly went out the door, and Boyd returned to Tammy's cuffs. "You're coming with me." he growled yanking her up. "Are we going for a walk under the stars," she asked then gave him a playful giggle, "William I didn't know you were such a romantic." she said giving him a sweet smile, and playfully slapping his shoulder.

Boyd yanked hard on her arm as he drug her out the door. "Oh yeah, I like it rough." Tammy said seductively as he pulled. "Will you shut your mouth before I shut it for you!" Boyd snapped. "Can you at least buy me dinner first?" she asked a little offended as she held back her smile. Boyd ignored her as he drug her behind a row of portable toilets. The gun fire was coming from all directions, and his men were running around in the dark trying to find the intruders. "This isn't fun anymore," Tammy pouted as they moved behind a dump truck, "This is officially the worst date ever." she told him, and he had finally had enough. "I am getting really fucking sick of you." he growled low, gripping his gun tight.

Tammy's smile finally vanished as their eyes locked, "I was sick of you a long fucking time ago." she growled back before her head few to his, and her teeth clamped down on his ear. Tammy could taste the blood in her mouth as she bit and pulled. Boyd let out a howl in pain, and released his grip on her arm as he tried to shove her away with no luck. He hit her on the side of her face with his gun, and she fell away, taking his ear lobe with her. Boyd's eyes burned with rage as he raised his gun at her, holding his bleeding ear with his other hand, and pulled the trigger.

Two shots echoed out, and Tammy fell back to the ground, but she wasn't the only one. Boyd gripped his arm as he scanned the dark from the ground spotting Tammy on the ground. Who fucking shot him? He scrambled to his feet, holding his bleeding arm as more bullets came his way. He felt one hit his leg, but was able to stay up, and limp to a stack of bags full of concrete. He held his gun tight expecting someone to come after him, but no one did. Boyd didn't dare look back as he made a move to the cement mixer. All that was on his mind now was getting away.

Brian yanked off his night vision goggles, and ran over to where Tammy lay. He heard Boyd's yell, and ran towards it in time to see him raise his gun at her. He wasn't able to get his shot off first, but he prayed he at least fucked up his aim. Brian dropped to his knees, and saw she wasn't breathing. He started to panic, and looked for the wound. Brian brushed her hair out of her face, and lifted her head.

Tammy's eyes fluttered open as soon as she felt his touch, and he couldn't hold back his smile, as he let out a sigh of relief. "I thought you were dead." he whispered. Tammy returned his smile, "And I thought you were Boyd coming to finish the job." she said as he helped her sit up. "Did he hit you?" Brian asked looking her over. She moved her hair off her left shoulder, and he cursed at the bleeding hole. "We need to find some better cover." he said looking around. "There's nobody in that trailer there." she told him motioning to the foreman's trailer. "You sure?" he asked. "Yeah, we just came out of there." she told him as he helped her up.

A set of footsteps started to quickly advance on them, and just as soon as Brian had his gun raised, Tammy had his other out of his shoulder holster. "Thank fucking God," Matt's voice broke through, and they lowered their guns, "You alright?" he asked Tammy as he came over to them. "I will be." she said giving him a reassuring smile. "Good, you see Boyd?" he asked looking at Brian. "He ran behind that cement mixer. I hit him twice, just follow the blood." he told him. Matt nodded, "Get her out of here." he said before taking off.

Brian started to lead Tammy to where they came in at, but she stopped him. "Where are we going?" she asked. "Getting you out of here." he said kind of duh like. Tammy shook her head, "We have to get to the girls. I promised I'd get them out." she told him. Brian ran a hand through his hair. "Where are they?" he asked. "In a big metal building, north end of the fence." she said. Brian let out a sigh, "Alright, lets at least get you somewhat fixed up, and we'll go get them." he said before helping her to the trailer for better cover.

Once inside, Tammy sat in the chair she was in before, and Brian grabbed a stack of napkins next to the coffee maker. He threw open the mini fridge, and found a bottle of water before kneeling in front of her. Brian opened the bottle and dumped half of the water on Tammy's shoulder to wash away some of the blood. "Is everyone here?" she asked as he shrugged off his jacket. "We're down five," he said as he tore the sleeves off of his shirt, "Zack broke his leg, and Johnny, Jerry, Dan, and Cam are at the hospital with him and McNicholes." he told her as he placed a few of the napkins on both sides of the wound, and tied his sleeves around it to hold them in place.

Tammy looked at him confused, "What happened to McNicholes?" she asked. "Boyd shot him," Brian told her as he wet down some of the napkins he had left, and cleaned the blood off her face, "I'll explain everything later." he said, helping her into his jacket, and wrapping his arms around her. "Okay." she let out in a content sigh as she rested her head on his chest, and closed her eyes, savoring the only moment they've had together in days, or will have for the rest of the night.

The door to the trailer flew open, and the two broke apart. "I told you I seen them come in here," Jimmy said playfully shoving Tobin as they walked in, "Hey there sweet cheeks." he said scooping Tammy up and twirling her around. "Owe, Jimmy my ribs." she groaned, but a smile still making its way out. "Sorry." he said placing her back down. "It's okay. Who else is here?" she asked looking around at the three of them. She needed to know who to look out for. "We broke up into teams of two," Tobin started to explain, "I got put with this annoying fucker," he said, shoving Jimmy for earlier. "You love me." Jimmy told him with a wink.

Tobin let out a chuckle, "Unfortunately," he mumbled with a grin, "Jacoby, Tony, the Berry's, and Chester, and Mike are running around here somewhere." he finished. "I take it you got separated from Matt?" Jimmy asked Brian. "He took off after Boyd," he told him, and Jimmy nodded, "There's a steel building at the north end that the girls are in. We were going to head there. Lets find out where everyone's at." Brian said looking at Jimmy. They couldn't hook him up with a mic, not with his arm.

Jimmy gave him a nod, and brought his sleeve up, "Where you at Jack?" he asked with a grin. "Man don't call me that." Jacoby's voice came through ear pieces. "You let Tammy call you Coby." Jimmy pouted. "That's different." Jacoby said. "You don't love me?" he asked a little disappointed. "Jimmy!" Brian said wanting him to get on with it. "Right, sorry. Where are you?" he asked again. "We're held up behind a crane. There's like 15 guys shooting at us." he said. "Mike and I are near you," Chester's voice came through, "I can see the crane. We can get a different angle, and help clear." he said.

Brian gave Jimmy a nod, only having an ear piece, and okay with the plan for them. With Matt preoccupied with Boyd, he was in charge. "Alright, we got Brian and Tammy, and are headed to a steel building on the north end. That's where the girls are." Jimmy told them. "That's where we are." both Matt and JB came through. "We counted, there's 30 guys guarding the place." Jason said. "We're hiding behind a bulldozer right now. They haven't noticed us yet." Matt added. "Tell them to stay out of sight until we get there." Brian said, and Jimmy relayed the message.

Brian looked to Tammy, "You sure you're up for this?" he asked concerned. "I promised," she whispered, "He already made me break it once." she said, sadness filling her eyes. Brian nodded, not needing her to go into detail. He would find out later. "Alright then, lets go get these girls." Jimmy said heading for the door, and opening it. He quickly slammed it shut, "Get down!" he yelled as bullets started piercing the trailer. "How many did you see?" Brian asked over the gunfire as they lay face down on the floor. "Five I think." Jimmy said covering his head as bullets shattered the windows.

The gunfire silenced, and Jimmy and Tobin jumped up at the opportunity. Jimmy kicked open the door, and Tobin stood in front of a busted window as they unloaded their assault riffles into the men as they reloaded their guns. "We need to move now!" Jimmy said stepping out, and shooting two more men headed their way. The four made their way out. Tammy lead the way, having already been around here once, and the three covered her when needed. "There they are." she said quietly pointing to the Berry's.

They stayed low as they made their way over to them, so not to alarm the small army outside of the building. "Fuck, its about time." JB whispered once the four joined them. "We got held up." Jimmy told him. Brian peeked over the bulldozer, and took in the sight. There was only one entrance, and three rows of men guarding it. "Do we have any grenades left?" Brian asked sitting back down. Jason, and Tobin each pulled out one. "Okay here's what we're going to do," he started to explain. "You're going to throw that," he said looking at Tobin, "And then the Berry's and I will make a break for that flatbed full of lumber," he told them pointing to the flatbed about a hundred feet away, "Once we get there then you're going to throw the other," he said looking to Jason, and receiving a nod, "You four have the better guns, so Tammy and I will get your backs while you take the rest out, but we need to split up to get a broader angle on them." he finished.

Brian received nods all around, and Tammy gave him a sexy little smile as she bit her lip. Brian returned her smile, knowing exactly what was running through her head right now. She loved it when he took charge, but sadly those thoughts were going to have to wait. Tobin yanked the pin out of the grenade, and tossed it over the bulldozer. The explosion rang out, and Jimmy and Tobin popped up shooting as Brian and the Berry's took off for the flatbed.

Jimmy and Tobin dropped back down as soon as the others reached their destination, and reloaded just as another explosion rang out. The two stood up again this time their gunfire joined by the Berry's as they started to take out the remaining guards, most stunned at the surprise attack. The door to the building flew open, and the four ducked back down as more men made their way out sending gun fire their way. Tammy spotted three men heading towards them, and raised her gun to fire, but didn't get the chance. She watched the three jolt violently before falling to the ground, Jacoby and Tony coming into view behind them.

Tammy couldn't hold back her smile as they made their way too them. "Where's Chester and Mike?" she asked. "We split up. They're over there with Gates." Jacoby said pointing. "How many are left?" he asked. "We've taken out about half." Tobin told him. "Lets take out the rest." Jacoby said standing when there was a break in the gun fire. The night air echoed with shots as the guys took out the rest of the men outside of the building before it fell to an almost calming silence. Tammy didn't hesitate to step over bodies as she rushed to the open door, the guys hot on her tail.

She stepped through the door, and was met by the familiar scared eyes. Tammy let a smile come out as they walked further in, happy and relieved to see them all there and alive. All but Sam. Tobin got to work quickly on the locks, and Brian and Tammy helped the girls out as the others watched the door. Tammy felt a pair of small arms wrap around her, and she looked down to see the young girl she had given the coat to. "Thank you." she sobbed out as Tammy returned the girls embrace. "I promised I'd get you out of here." she whispered holding the girl tight.

Matt took off towards the cement mixer Brian said Boyd went behind. He stopped and looked around finding no one near it. Just a small puddle of blood. Matt's eyes followed the trail that lead away from it, and spotted Boyd as he ran into the unfinished building. Matt took a few shots at him, but he wasn't fast enough. He took off towards the building, and ran through the door. A bullet grazed his shoulder as he ran in, and he ducked behind a wall beam as a few more came his way.

The shots stopped, and Matt could hear him run up the steps to the floors above. He took off after him up the flight of stairs to the fifth floor which had some walls finished. Matt took caution as he walked into the mostly open floor. He couldn't hear any movement, but he knew Boyd was in here. "It's over Boyd, come out!" he yelled as he walked with his gun in front of him. Matt heard a chuckle to his left, and instantly turned in time to catch a bullet in his arm.

Boyd fired a few more shots as Matt ran for cover behind a partially finished wall. "Couldn't just mind your own business could you?" Boyd sneered. He ducked back behind the wall beams he was hiding at as Matt sent some of his own bullets his way. Boyd listened to Shadows reload his gun, and unloaded the rest of his clip as he made a move for a finished room. "Sounds like you're out." Shadows chuckled low, hearing the click of William's empty gun as he advanced in his direction.

Boyd tossed his empty gun to the floor, and looked around. His eyes narrowed on a piece of left over metal pipe from when they installed the pluming. He quickly grabbed it as Matt's footsteps got closer. "Give it up." Shadows voice was close. Boyd hid by the doorway with no door, pipe raised, and ready. Matt's gun was the first thing to enter, and Boyd brought the pipe down on his wrist. The pain shot through Matt's arm, and he dropped his gun before being met with a pipe to the head.

Matt stumbled back, and fell to the floor. Boyd charged at him, pipe in hand, but Matt kicked his feet out from under him. William fell, but maintained a grip on the pipe. Matt jumped up, and delivered a few hard kicks to Boyd's ribs just before he was hit in the side of the knee with the pipe. Matt's leg gave out on him, and Boyd brought the pipe up under his chin. He flew back, and Boyd didn't let up. "You call me barking orders like you're in charge," he hissed bringing the pipe down over and over again onto Matt's chest, "You stick your nose in where it doesn't belong," he continued as the pipe collided with Shadows arms as he tried to shield his now broken ribs. "You have people follow me," he growled giving him repeated blows to the head before walking over to the gun Matt dropped, "I'm going to enjoy this." he hissed pointing the gun at Matt's bleeding face.

The shot rang out, and Matt's eyes snapped shut as he anticipated the pain, but he didn't feel it. No more than what was already flowing through him. Another shot, and another. Matt opened his eyes, and saw Boyd standing, shocked and mouth agape as another bullet hit him. He let his eyes travel to the source of the gunfire instantly spotting the blonde hair. Kimmie gripped her gun with both hands as she stalked towards Boyd, fire burning in her eyes as she unloaded bullet after bullet into him until she was left with nothing but clicking. William dropped to his knees, Shadows face the last one he sees before collapsing, lifeless to the floor.
