Chapter 3

Kimmie sat anxiously fidgeting with her hands as she waited for the car to show up. Her and Shane spent the last four days moving. They stayed up late Saturday unpacking and settling into their new homes, so they could have all day Sunday relaxing, and enjoying one last day to hang out. Her new place was a little bigger than her place back home. Richard picked it out for her. He knew how much she loved her little house on the beach, and wanted to make sure this place was just as good. To Kimmie’s surprise, it was to her liking. She enjoyed the extra space, and Jasper is enjoying the bigger yard, and new smells. The coast was still her backyard, and she was content with it.

A sigh escaped her when she heard a car horn. Here we go. She let out a small chuckle, noticing it was 9:30 on the dot as she made her way to the door. Locking the door behind her she turned to see a man standing by a shiny black car holding the door open. His hair was dark, a cap on his head, and a ring in the middle of his lip. “Good morning.” he greeted with a smile as she walked up to him. “Good morning.” she replied, returning his smile. He shut the door when she climbed in, and Kimmie noticed it was oddly dark. There was a small single light in the ceiling, giving off just enough glow to see. She looked around, her heart picking up when she noticed the windows were all blacked out. She couldn’t see anything.

Kimmie knocked on the black separator between her and the driver seat when she felt the car start to move. It came down slowly, and another man in the passenger seat looked at her. He looked just like the driver except his hair was longer, and she had no idea what was up with his mustache. A smirk crossed her face as she studied the man. They must be the Berry twins, she thought to herself. “What?” JB asked when she didn’t say anything right away. “I’m sorry,” she started not being able to hold back her smile, “But were you going for pirate, or 1930’s porn star with that stache?” she asked with a slight chuckle. Matt burst out laughing, and JB punched him hard in the shoulder. “Owe. Why the fuck did you hit me?” he whined punching him back. “Cause I can’t hit her, and you laughed.” JB said punching him again. “That’s cause it was funny.” Matt said hitting him back.

Kimmie let a giggle escape her lips as she watched the two fight. “Was there something you wanted?” JB asked turning his attention back to her. “Yea, I can’t see out any of these windows.” she said motioning back with her head. “We know.” they said in unison with smiles before JB raised the separator, a giant, open smile on his face as he waved bye to her. Kimmie furrowed her brow, and stared confused at the now raised separator. Who the hell were these people. She tried to lower the window, but it did nothing when she pushed the button. “Don’t bother, they’re locked.” JB said to her lowering the separator just enough for her to hear him. “You’ll know when you need to.” he said raising it again. Kimmie let out a huff, and crossed her arms, frustrated with all the mystery. Obviously they’re involved in something, and now she was just more determined to find out what.

She glanced at her watch when she felt the car stop, and heard the engine shut off. It was five till ten. It took almost a half an hour to get there. At least now she has a time radius. She didn’t know what direction they went, but they could figure out a distance radius with how long it took to get there, and search it till they found where ever it is she‘s at. If she didn’t get the job that is. Matt opened her door, and helped her out. She squinted her eyes when she stepped out into the bright mid-morning sun. She thanked Matt as he closed her door, and took in the appearance of the house, or should she say mansion.

The place was enormous. No wonder they need housekeeping. Looking around in awe, she noticed a tall iron fence that looked like it went around the entire property. “Big isn’t it.” JB said in her ear making her jump a little. He chuckled, and stepped around her to stand next to Matt. “This way please.” they said turning, and heading for the door. She took a deep breath shaking her head a little before following the two inside. They stepped into what looked like an entry way, with another door leading into the house. An older woman stood in front of the door with a friendly smile on her face. “This is Evelyn,” Matt began to explain to Kimmie, “Follow her, and do what she tells you.” he finished before him and JB headed back outside without another word.

“Jena is it?” Evelyn asked grabbing one of Kimmie’s hands in both of hers, and shaking it. “Yes.” Kimmie said with a smile noticing her deep blue eyes. She had to be in her mid fifties. “Well this way please.” Evelyn said letting go of her hand, and leading her through the door to the house. The place took her breath away. She couldn’t see a lot from the door, but there was a large stair case that separated the house into a horse shoe almost, but a little off set to the left. There were halls on both sides, and a room off to her right she could see a bunch of instruments set up in. “Please place your purse, and all jewelry on this table.” Evelyn told her. Kimmie looked to her right, and seen two armed men standing behind the table she had mentioned. One was shorter than the other, and you could tell he worked out. She set her purse down in front of them, and took off her watch, earrings, and necklace she was wearing.

She watched as the shorter man dumped the contents of her purse out on the table. “What are you doing?” she asked. They just glanced at her before returning to searching her things. “This way dear.” Evelyn said leading her behind a white screen that was kind of against the wall. “Please remove your shoes.” she told her. Kimmie hesitated for a moment before taking off her shoes, and handing them to the older woman. Evelyn took the shoes to the men, and returned to Kimmie. “Now please remove you shirt, and pants.” Evelyn told her. “Excuse me?” Kimmie asked giving her an are you serious look. “Company policy dear everyone has to be searched.” Evelyn said giving her an apologetic look. Kimmie sighed, and started to unbutton her blue blouse. She handed it to Evelyn before slipping off her black slacks, and handing them to her. “Arms out, and turn please.” she told her. Kimmie did as she said still not believing these people would go through these lengths to hire someone. “Here you are dear.” Evelyn said handing Kimmie her clothes once she was facing her again. “You can collect the rest of you things when you’re done.” she said leaving Kimmie to dress.

Once her clothes were back on, she stepped out from behind the screen, and joined Evelyn with the two men she assumed were security guards. The taller man handed her, her shoes, and cracked a friendly smile at her. She slipped them back on along with her jewelry, and noticed all her belonging were back in her purse. “This is Dan,” Evelyn introduced the shorter man to Kimmie, “And this is Cam. They’re head of security, and will be taking you to your next stop.” Evelyn said before walking away. Kimmie looked to the two men who were both smiling at her now. “This way please.” Dan said motioning her to follow.

They walked strait ahead past the right side of the stairs, and stopped at the second door on her right. Cam knocked on the closed door, and she heard a man tell them to come in. Dan opened the door, and the two walked away leaving Kimmie in the doorway. She stepped through the threshold seeing a man and a woman sitting behind a desk. “Will you try not to kill this one.” she heard the woman hiss at the tall blue eyed man sitting next to her that she recognized as The Rev. Kimmie stopped dead in her tracks as fear swept her face. Did she really just hear her correctly. “Her favorite color was magenta,” The Rev whispered to her, nothing but rage on his face. Is he fucking serious? “Whose favorite color is fucking magenta?” he asked still at a whisper. “Still no reason to put a bullet in her.” the woman snapped low giving him a look to drop it. Kimmie stood wide eyed, not believing what she was hearing. Would he really just kill someone because he didn’t like her favorite color?

A bright flash of light brought Kimmie out of her thoughts, and she blinked a few times before looking back at the two. They both wore matching grins as Kimmie looked at them, the woman holding a phone. “Oh man I think this is the best one yet.” the woman laughed out as the two looked at the picture on the screen. Jimmy chuckled, “You should have seen the look on your face,” he laughed out, “Wait, you want too?”. he asked taking the phone, and turning it too her. Kimmie relaxed a little, and let out a breath she was apparently holding. “I’m good.” she said finally being able to take a few more steps into the room. “You sure? It’s pretty fucking hilarious.” Jimmy asked again looking at the picture as she sat in the chair in front of the desk. Kimmie shook her head with a smile, “I’m sure it is.” she said as she looked at the two, and their mischievous grins. “Something tells me you two get into a lot of trouble together.” she said, the smile still on her face. “That depends.” the woman said. “On what?” Kimmie asked. “On what you consider a lot.” Jimmy said, their grins turning into full blown smiles.

Kimmie let out a chuckle, and shook her head. She was a little surprised at how quickly she had went from being slightly scared and nervous, to completely comfortable with the two people sitting in front of her. “So Jena Richards is it?” the woman asked her. “Yes.” Kimmie replied. “Well I’m Synderella, you can call me Syndy. This crazy motherfucker over here,” she said motioning to Jimmy with her head, “Is The Rev.” “Sup.” he said, giving her an upwards nod, crossing his arms, pretending to be badass. Okay so he didn’t really have to pretend. “Other than being on the oddest interview of my life, not much,” she said with a smile. Tammy and Jimmy smiled at her. “We prefer unique.” Jimmy said. Kimmie nodded, “Yea I guess that can apply too.” she said. “You guess?” Jimmy questioned faking anger, “You guess?! Oh I’m about to bust a cap in someone.” he said leaning back putting his hands on his face, and running them down. Tammy and Kimmie both chuckled at him knowing he was just fucking around. “Okay, okay, that’s enough we have an interview to do.” Tammy said trying to get on task, not that she wanted too.

“First I want to tell you to be completely honest, because we already know everything about you.” Tammy told her. “Then why have an interview?” Kimmie asked with a grin, earning smiles from them. “For this.” Tammy said motion between Kimmie and them with her finger. “You can tell a lot more about a person face to face.” Jimmy said. “And how am I doing so far?” Kimmie asked. “I thought we were doing the interview?” Tammy questioned looking to Jimmy confused. “Me too.” he said returning her confusion before they both looked at Kimmie, tilting their heads towards one another. “I’m sorry, but today has raised so many questions.” she told them. “Yea that‘ll happen.” Jimmy told her. “I guess it’s only fair to let you ask,” Tammy said, “We have been entertaining ourselves at your expense.” she said breaking a smile.

“Okay,” Kimmie started, “What’s with all the secrecy?” she asked. “Secrecy?” they questioned with knowing smiles. “Yea,” she said “No names, addresses, and a car?” she said getting a little bolder with her questioning, “Who sends a car-” “We do.” they interrupted her, the smiles never leaving their faces. None of their interviewees have been gutsy enough to ask questions. “Okay I get that, but blacked out windows? Why don’t you want anyone to know where this place is?” she asked. “They’ll know when they need to. Plan and simple.” Tammy said. “Yea that’s what pirate boy said.” Kimmie mumbled, a smile coming out when she heard Jimmy and Tammy start laughing. “That’s great,” Jimmy said between laughs, “Pirate boy,” he paused and took a breath, “I like you.” he finished wiping a stray tear. “That’s a plus right?” she asked still smiling. “Of course, The Rev doesn’t like just anyone.” Tammy told her. “Yea, she’s been here for years, and I still can’t stand her.” Jimmy said motioning to Tammy with his head. “And then Gates had to go and marry her annoying assaaahhhhoooooouuuuuchhhh!” he yelled when Tammy started giving him a titty twister. Kimmie laughed as she watched Tammy playfully glare at Jimmy as he rubbed his nipple. “You’re lucky I love you.” she grumbled with a smile. “Oh yea cause I can totally feel the love,” Jimmy said still rubbing his nipple, “Love you too sweet cheeks.” he grinned at her.

Kimmie shook her head in amusement as another chuckle escaped her. She wondered if they were always like this. It was like they had a sibling type bond. They sure don’t come off as criminals. “Any other questions?” Tammy asked bringing her out of thought. “Yea. What’s with the strip search?” she asked curiously. “Sorry bout that,” Tammy said sincerely, “Had to check for wires, cameras, and shit.” she said leaning forward, and crossing her arms on the desk, “People like to butt their noses into places they don’t belong,” she said with a small smile, “Reporters,” she paused and looked to Kimmie with curiosity, “Cops.” she finshed with a look that made Kimmie’s heart race with worry a little. It almost seemed like she knew. “Really?” she questioned feigning ignorance, “People do that?” she asked calm and cool. “You’d be surprised.” Tammy said finally relaxing back in her chair. Kimmie’s heart relaxed as well, and she shrugged her worry off as paranoia, but the almost knowing look Tammy gave her remained burned into her brain. She wasn’t really sure what to think. She thought The Rev killed someone over their favorite color when she walked in the door. She just knew she was going to have to be extra careful.
