Perfectly Reckless

Chapter 33

Alabama, 2013

I watched as Wesley spun around in front of me, wearing a blue loose dress, that I picked for her yesterday. The boys were off to hang out at some bar after the show and I specifically called Joe out a couple of minutes ago, saying that I wanted to discuss something with him. He looked reluctant but I convinced him that it was about our new album material, so eventually he agreed.

Wesley on the other hand, she seemed ecstatic because she’d never been on a date before and right now she didn’t care if her date was me. What a weird girl. She even dressed up and took off her glasses for me.

“You’re ready?”

“Do I look okay? As my date, you have to compliment me.”

“You look stunning. Come on.”

“And you look…” she paused, scanning over my appearance. I only wore an Affliction tee and my leather skinny pants, combined with my black pumps. “..like a rock star.”

I can only smirk at her remark and brought her out of the bus after saying thanks to Ron, our bus driver. I walked with her along the streets of Alabama, thankful that no one recognized me or Wesley for that matter. Alabama looked very homey and peaceful from its country vibe. And you’ll see a few farm trucks here and there, bar blasting out country songs and the people were speaking in thick southern accent.

“Where are you taking me?” Wesley said nervously as we walked up to a local diner and I smiled when I saw Joe was leaning against the lamp post, facing away from us.

“Hey there.” I greeted. Both Joe and Wesley were shocked as their eyes glued to each other.

“Hey..?” Joe replied me with a half question tone. He became a lot less cold to me after our talk the other day and we were no longer making mistakes on stage. I glanced at Wesley who was awkwardly pinching the fabric of my tshirt and staring at Joe endlessly.

“Wesley, have you met my best friend Joe? He’s a great guy. Totally single and ready to mingle.”

I pulled her hand, and brought her forward to stand beside Joe.

“Lzzy, what’s all this?” Joe asked me with a frown on his forehead.

“Joe, meet Wesley. She can be weird sometimes, but she’s a sweet and beautiful person. You can’t get enough of her once you get to know her.”

I ignored their puzzled look and started to back away from them. “Have fun guys! Don’t bother to be back early!”

I walked back to the bus, and can’t believe my own heart was breaking to send Joe away to another girl. He was once mine…oh fuck. Why am I crying right now? When I got into the bus, Ron was startled.

“Hey, Lzzy..you okay there?”

I smiled bitterly and nodded before running up to my bunk and buried myself in there. I honestly don’t know why I cried over this. I should be happy for him, I wanted him to find someone else that can make him the better man. Unlike me, who only saw him as the rebound guy for me to forget a one night stand from years ago.

Remembering that I quickly looked for my phone and texted Matt.

You wouldn’t believe what I did today. – Lzzy

He didn’t reply me almost immediately. It took him a little more than 10 minutes, that I was nearly drifting off to sleep when my phone suddenly beeped with an incoming message.

Shit sorry, I was on stage. What did you do today? – Matt

I was suddenly wide awake from reading that text. He was on stage yet he can find time to reply me?

Never mind me. Go and have a ball on stage! – Lzzy

And he replied instantly.

Come on Lzzy. You know I’m interested in whatever you’re doing. Gates is on stage now, doing his solo. Encore is next and we’ll be done for tonight. What did you do? – Matt

He asked for the second time but I was more curious about his activity over there.

Wow an encore huh? How’s the crowd? – Lzzy

This time he didn’t reply, but my phone suddenly rang, making me jump. He went straight to calling. I didn’t want to make him wait so I picked it up.

“Hey.”

Hey baby. I asked twice already. I’m running out of time now, so spill.”

“Um, you’re busy so-”

Damn it, Lzzy. You’re killing me here. You want me to get on stage and forget my lyrics or what?”

I laughed and finally gave in. “I set Joe up on a date.”

Really? With who?”

“Our tour manager, Wesley.”

Oh that girl with awkward jokes? She seems nice.”

“You’ve met her?”

Yeah, at ROTR. When you were in that vault room, where I came looking for you and..”

I blushed and thankful that he can’t see my face right now.

So how did Joe react?” he asked again, though I can tell that he was really in a hurry.

“He seemed surprise. I only meet them up in front of a local diner though. Nothing special.”

You call that a date?”

“Well, yeah. What else can you do on a date?”

He laughed, but then I heard him talking to someone in an urgent tone. “Uh, Lzzy I gotta go. I’ll call you again later okay babe? Bye.”

“Bye Matt. Lo-”

He hung up the phone before I even finished my sentence.
