Chapter 27
That Metal Show Studio, Ohio – 2013
I watched as my band mates were getting ready to be interviewed next, after Smashing Pumpkins who was now sitting in the room upfront, taking questions gladly from Eddie Trunk. Zacky was cursing over his jacket which didn’t fit him anymore and Brian flicked his mohawk hair in front of the mirror, mocking Zacky along the way.
I turned to Arin, he was sitting alone, crossing his legs at the corner of this dressing room, texting his girlfriend probably. Johnny was nowhere to be seen.
“Yo, where’s Johnny at?”
Brian glanced at me and smirked. “Where else. Next door. He missed Lzzy too damn much. As he claimed.”
“Hah, did you know he had a crush on Lzzy a long time ago?” Zacky cut in.
My ears shot up like a cat in danger. I didn’t know about this.
“Well, duh. It was practically written on his fucking face.”
Both Zacky and Brian laughed. How can I miss this?
“But, Johnny’s married.” I stated quietly, trying not to look like I’m a jealous and possessive motherfucker.
“Of course. He wouldn’t ditch Lacey, I’m sure. Just reminiscing old times with Lzzy and the guys. Why, feeling insecure already?”
I looked up to Zacky. He’d always been bitter about my relationship with Lzzy 10 years ago. Yeah, 10 years ago I was an asshole. Like Lzzy said, a big time asshole.
“Relax, Matt. Nobody’s going to snatch her away from you.”
“What are you talking about, Vengeance?”
Zacky smirked and turned back to the mirror. “Well, you kinda ruined your life for three years’ failed marriage, now I‘d say it’s time to get it back. Don’t you think?”
Brian crossed his arms and leaned back against the dressing table. “Amen to that. What are you fucking waiting for, Matt? She’s right here, right now. Just grab and kiss the fuck out of her already.”
Oh my band mates. They think they are love experts now that they are all happily married huh? One thing they didn’t know, I was waaaay ahead of them already. Thanks to fate that brought us in that room together. I smiled to myself remembering how we parted ways just hours before coming here to accept this interview.
I halted from running so she was forced to stop too. We were standing in front of the hotel, a bit away from the grand front door and as I scanned, away from anybody’s view. I turned around and pulled her face with the both of my hands. I caught her lips hungrily and took a deep breath inside her mouth. I can feel her knees buckled under my touch.
When I pulled away, she was closing her eyes. I smiled at the view.
“Lzzy, will you go out with me?” I asked for the third time already.
She ran her brown eyes all over mine, searching for something in my gaze. I softened them, making sure that I really want this.
“How are we going to do this, Matt?”
I pursed my lips. A little bit impatient because she didn’t really answer yes or no. “Give me your phone.”
“It’s out of battery.”
“Shit. Um, okay. Here’s my number. You seem to never have it before.” I reached for a worn backstage tag in my pocket and a marker pen which conveniently I had and wrote down my number.
“Well, can’t blame me.”
I chuckled and as she took the tag from me, I pulled her closer and kissed her forehead.
“I’m sorry for everything, again.”
She glanced up to me. “I’m sorry too. For being such a bitc-”
I silenced her with a kiss. “No you’re not. You don’t deserve to be treated like that. That’s why I wanna make it up to you.”
“But Matt, we’ll be separated by tomorrow. I’m heading to Oklahoma and you guys…I don’t know where the hell your next venue’s gonna be. So how can I be sure that you really want this?”
I blinked at her and thought hard to myself. “We’ll think of something. But for the fourth time, Lzzy. Will you go out with me, goddamnit?”
She laughed and wrapped her arms around my waist. “Yes I will, dumbass.”
My smile grew even wider when I remembered the long kiss or make out session we shared after that until a car honked behind us, making us yelped apart. We had to be discreet about this. Not because I’m ashamed of her or because I don’t want Avenged Sevenfold’s fans to know about us.
Hell, I would announce it to the whole world if I could but I respect Lzzy’s current relationship with Joe. She had just broken up with him, so finding a new guy within hours would be insulting to their past. And by what RJ had told me, Lzzy didn’t leak private stories about Halestorm before so I assumed she would want to secretly hide this too. I don’t mind, as long as I can be with her.
“I think he’s gone senile.”
“Or maybe just plain crazy. Do you think we should drop him off at some asylum on the way to Kansas?”
I heard Zacky and Brian mumbled in front of me and when I looked up to them, they were actually talking about me.
“Hey, there he is. Welcome back to earth Mr Sanders. How may I assist you?”
I felt my cheeks flushed because I’d been smiling like an idiot the whole time. “Fuck you, Synacky.”
Zacky and Brian exchanged looks and quickly pretended to grope each other and acted like they were kissing passionately – yeah, something they would do everytime they heard the word ‘Synacky’ given by our fans. Me and Arin can’t stop laughing now.
“Guys! You’re next! Come on!”
Larry barged in, with a set of papers in his hand and Zacky went out first.
“Where the fuck is Johnny?” Larry asked me when I was approaching the door.
“Um, let me go get him.” I said, turning my heels to the next door of dressing room which pasted on with a paper that wrote; HALESTORM.
