Sweet Things

Bruised and Bloody

Third Person
Hannah was scared.

She was scared of herself, when she looked at her reflection in the mirror she didn’t recognize herself. The real Hannah wouldn’t do the things that she had done, she would have hurt her cousin and the other people who love her enough to put themselves through the danger they were putting themselves through.

She didn’t love Sebastian, in fact, she wasn’t even sure she liked the man, but to keep everyone else safe she knew that she had to go through with his wishes, she had to marry him and become the Queen of Hell and live forever while everyone she had ever loved and known died before her very eyes.

She still didn’t know how her life had become such a mess, how she ended up in this mess, but there was one thing she did know.

She loved Jimmy.

She loved him with all of her heart, and that was her motivation to go through with this whole thing. She loved him too much to see him getting hurt somewhere down the line, she wasn’t one to be selfish and keep him for herself and put him in danger. She had to let him go.
But, if she thought about it, she could still picture what her life would be like if Sebastian had never turned up, if she was still with Jimmy.

They would be the cutest couple in school next to Erin and Zack. Jimmy would walk her to all of her classes and kiss her goodbye if he wasn’t with her that period. They would drive home together at the end of the day and some nights he would have dinner with her and her father, other nights she might be invited to his house to eat with his family. She would cheer him on at every band practice and stand in the front row at every single show. They would go to prom together and his tie would match her dress. They would graduate together, and if she decided that she wanted to go to college he would never even dream of stopping her, and they would make things work between them no matter how far the distance was between them while he toured with the band, and they would remain faithful to one another. One day, they might even get married and maybe even have a couple of kids together and live their lives together… grandchildren and great-grandchildren eventually coming into their lives before they died peacefully.

She knew that it was never going to happen like that between them. She was going to become a
monster before the end of the month and he would go off and become a big rock-star, fall in love with someone else and grow old with her… it wouldn’t be Hannah and that thought broke her heart.

Jimmy
I hadn’t seen Hannah since the whole ordeal in Matt’s garage and I had to admit I was sort of avoiding her as much as she was avoiding me. Normally, I would be texting her and calling her only for her to ignore me, but I hadn’t been trying for the last few days, but c’mon, she almost killed my best friend right in front of me and it was kind of terrifying.

Johnny had told me that two days ago Tori managed to get Hannah to go over to her place and join the two of them in looking for something to undo what Erin had done, but they hadn’t found anything and Tori hadn’t heard from Hannah since she left them that night, and she couldn’t get a reading on her at all, so she was starting to worry because even Erin hadn’t heard from her cousin.

I decided to take a walk over to Hannah’s place and see if she was home, if she would let me see her so that I could try and talk some sense into her. I had to make sure that she knew exactly how I feel about her.

As I walked to the front door of my house, shrugging into my hoodie and pocketing my pack of smokes, I called out to my mom that I was leaving.

“Where are you going?” She asked, sticking her head out of the kitchen.

“I’m just going over to Matt’s place to hang out,” I lied “He’s got a couple of songs he wants to go over with me,”

“Will you be home for dinner?” She asked.

“Probably not,” I sighed, stopping with my hand on the door and turning around to look at her.

“Your father won’t be happy if he comes home and you’re out all night, again…”

“The girls will be here,” I shrugged before turning back around and walking out the door.

I tugged my hood up over my head and pulled a smoke out of my pack and stuck it between my lips before lighting it up and taking a long drag.

On the walk over to Hannah’s place my mind started to wander. I started to think of all of the things we would have if she listened to me, if she got her head straight and said ‘no’ to
Sebastian and ran away with me instead, just like her mother did with her father.

We’d finish school together, she would go off to college to become an artist or she’d go off and become a singer/songwriter while I stuck with the band and we got as big as we always dreamed. One day, when the timing was perfect, I would give her a gorgeous diamond ring and ask her to be my wife, we’d have a nice house and a couple of kids, maybe even a dog… everything would be perfect.

I knew that she was prepared to marry Sebastian because she didn’t want to end up like her mother, she didn’t want to leave a daughter behind for him to come after when she was eighteen and Hannah had been in the ground for years, but I wasn’t going to let that happen. I would make her mine and kill Sebastian; they could find some other motherfucker to run Hell.

Hannah
My life was a mess.

By some miracle, I’d managed to get my anger under control. I’d made it perfectly clear to Sebastian that I wanted to be left alone for a few days and I’d been spending all of my time looking for something to undo what Erin had done. Surprisingly he left me alone, he hadn’t called or text and I was glad that he was leaving me alone, as I had asked.

Dad was away for the weekend, on pleasure this time and that meant that I had the house to myself from this morning until Sunday night. Most people in my situation would take full advantage of the empty house and throw a huge party, but there was no way I was going to do that. Dad would have my head on a plate if he ever found out, and I don’t have enough friends to throw a party. I’ve been avoiding them for days.

It was a beautiful day outside today and I would be damned if I was going to spend it inside. I tied my hair into a bun and changed out of my pyjamas and into a loose tank top and a pair of shorts.

I grabbed my sketchbook and my pencil off of my desk and opened my bedroom window as high as it would go before I climbed out onto the slightly sloped roof right outside the window and sat myself down with my sketchbook in my lap.

I always loved the view from out here. The branches of the old oak tree around the side of the house hung around by the window and I loved to watch the leaves blowing in the breeze, and it was always so beautiful when it was covered in snow. If I looked between the branches of the tree I could see the sky and the rooftops of other houses… it was all just so beautiful and being out here made me feel at one with the rest of the world.

I flipped open my sketchbook to the next blank page, closed my eyes, took a deep breath and just let the pencil guide my hand across the page and draw whatever was at the back of my mind.
~~~~
The doorbell rang throughout the house and my eyes snapped open.
I looked at my watch on my left wrist and noticed that I’d been out here for almost an hour and I let out a sigh as the doorbell rang again.
“Shit,” I cursed under my breath as whoever was ringing the bell started to ring it more erratically. I tucked my pencil into my bun and ducked back through the window and into my bedroom and made my way across the carpeted floor and out the door, across the landing and down the stairs and down the hall to the front door.
I threw open the door and found Jimmy standing on the doorstep with his finger over the doorbell and looking over his shoulder at the street behind him.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, making him drop his hand into his pocket as he looked around at me with his infamous cheeky smile on his face.
“Just thought I’d drop by for a visit,” He informed me “Nobody’s saw you in a few days,” He added.
“I know, that’s been the purpose of me staying at home and ignoring my phone,”
“Aren’t you going to invite me in?” He asked.
I said nothing, but opened the door wider and stepped to the side to let him in, and he confidently stepped inside.
“What are we doing?” He asked as I shut the door and turned away to walk back up the stairs.
“I don’t know about you, but I’m outside enjoying to lovely weather we’re having,” I smirked over my shoulder as I walked into my room.
“You’re enjoying the weather from the comfort of your own bedroom?” He asked, shutting the door behind him as I walked over to the open window.
“Don’t be a smartass,” I scolded lightly as I ducked back through the window and he followed me with a chuckle.
I sat myself back in my previous position as Jimmy climbed through the window and sat down beside me and picked up my sketchbook from between us.
“What’s this?” He asked, turning the book over to the page I had just been drawing on.
I looked over at the book to see what I had been drawing, given that I hadn’t even looked at the page since I came out here earlier and I was a little shocked and embarrassed by what was on the page. It was a very detailed ‘sketch’ of a woman, a child and a man… like a family portrait or something and the woman looked a little like me, the child looked slightly like me but the man didn’t have a face.
“Oh God!” I groaned loudly, grabbing the book and trying to pull it from his hands, but he just
smiled widely and started laughing while clutching it tightly “Jimmy, give me it!”
“No way!” He laughed “Give me a pencil,” He said, holding out his hand when I let go and folded my arms across my chest.
I slipped the pencil out of my hair and handed it to him and watched as he filled in the face of the man I’d drawn and it looked like he had drawn himself. While I watched him, my hand slipped down to my abdomen for a moment and I thought about exactly what I was giving up by being with Sebastian.
“There,” He smiled smugly, handing the book back over to me “I fixed it,”
I looked down at the page and smiled softly, now it looked like Jimmy, me and our child. My eyes lingered over his work and I chuckled a little.
“What?” He asked.
“You sure think a lot of yourself,” I smirked, glancing over at him before looking back to the page and holding out my hand for the pencil “Your lips…” I trailed off, erasing them from the paper “Are a little thinner than you think, mister,”
“You pay a lot of attention to my lips?” He asked.
“You know I do,” I smiled at him, my eyes darting from his eyes down to his lips and back up again “They’re so…” I leaned in just a little, and it was Jimmy who came the rest of the way.
His hand came up and cradled the back of my head as he leaned in and pressed his lips against mine. The kiss was soft and sweet but filled with passion, hunger and need all at the same time.
Third Person
Matt had always been one to hold grudges, but he just couldn’t bring himself to hold one against Hannah.
He knew that what was happening was completely out of her control, she couldn’t stop Sebastian from doing what he was doing to her and she had no other choice but to go along with what he wanted. She didn’t mean to hurt anyone; she didn’t want to hurt anyone, especially those who cared about her – the ones she cared about.
Matt knew that Tori had asked for Hannah’s help finding something to undo Erin’s work on her, and he knew that nobody had come up with anything yet so he decided that he would help. He spent hours in the school library and the library in town looking through every book they had on witchcraft and lore, he searched the deepest depths of the internet and finally – finally he had come up with something.
“Really?” He chuckled to himself as he looked at the paper he had been scribbling on “That’s it, that’s all it takes?”
He tore the sheet of paper out of his notepad, grabbed his keys and rushed out of his house and into his while calling Jimmy.
“Yeah?” Jimmy answered the phone, breathing heavily.
“Dude, what the fuck are you doing?” He asked with a laugh “In fact, I don’t want to know, you’re home, right?”
“…No,” He answered after a moment as Matt pulled away from his house.
“Well… where are you?” He asked slowly, but before Jimmy answered Matt heard a moan in the background “You’re at Hannah’s place, aren’t you?”
“Yeah,” Jimmy laughed breathlessly.
“Well get ready for company, I think I found something that Hannah’s looking for,”
Matt hung up the phone and tossed it into the passenger seat next to him and smiled while shaking his head thinking about Jimmy. No matter what was going on, no matter what Hannah did, Jimmy could never get enough of her, and Matt could see why. She was an attractive girl, she always had been but Jimmy had saw it in her right from the beginning, all those years ago when they were still practically kids.
~~~~
When Matt got to Hannah’s house, he let himself in and found Hannah and Jimmy in the kitchen.

They were both still a little red in the face, their hair was dishevelled, Jimmy was topless and walking around in his jeans and Hannah wore his t-shirt and no pants underneath, just her panties. They both still had lazy smiles on their faces.

“You two are ridiculous,” Matt commented, sitting himself up at the breakfast bar “That
Sebastian guy is the King of Hell and if he finds out you two have been going at it again… I hate to think what he’d do to you both,”

“I don’t care what he does,” Jimmy said “If I’m going to lose Hannah in a matter of weeks…” He wrapped his arm around her shoulders, pulled her against his side and kissed the top of her head “Then I’m going to make the most of what little time I have left,”

Hannah and Jimmy looked into one another’s eyes for a moment and the three of them stayed silent until Hannah looked back over to Matt and smiled softly at him.

“You have something for me?” She asked.

“Yeah,” He said quickly, reaching into the back pocket of his jeans and pulling out the sheet of paper he had the information written on and handed it over to her.

Hannah took the piece of paper from Matt and unfolded it and the two boys watched her eyes scan over the paper.

“I can’t believe it,” She said as a smile slowly spread across her face “This might actually work!”
She exclaimed with a laugh “Matt, you’re amazing, I could kiss you!”

Before either of the boys could say anything Hannah was already rushing around the kitchen grabbing every ingredient that Matt had written on the paper before pulling the smoothie machine out of one of the cabinets.

“Do I just chop this up and toss it in?” She asked Matt.

“I guess so,” He shrugged, stepping to her side and picking up the knife she had laid out and he
started cutting some ingredients while Hannah peeled the others and Jimmy read over the piece of paper.

“It’s really going to be this easy?” He asked, struggling a little to read Matt’s handwriting.

“I hope so,” Hannah muttered under her breath as she dropped some ingredients into the smoothie machine “Erin used a smoothie to do this, so hopefully another smoothie should undo it,” She shrugged, putting the lid on the machine.

“Wait!” Jimmy said, stopping her from pressing the button “Did you put this stuff in?” He asked, pointing to the last ingredient.

“Shit,” She cursed “No, I’ll be right back,”

Hannah dashed out of the kitchen, down the hallway and into the basement and right into the back corner under the staircase where she knew her father kept all of her mother’s old witchcraft things. Tools, ingredients and whatever else she might need. The cabinet was locked, and Hannah didn’t have time to look for the key, so she grabbed one of her father’s tools off of the rack on the wall and broke the lock with one swift whack, causing it to open and fall to the ground.

With a shrug, Hannah started rummaging through the cabinet, luckily for her, her mother had been the organised one in the family – just like Hannah – and everything in the cabinet was arranged by category, so she wasn’t looking through everything she didn’t need. Eventually, she came across the Caraway seeds that were needed.

Hannah
I tossed the seeds into the smoothie machine with all of the other ingredients and popped the lid back on before starting it up.

“I’m not sure that’s going to taste so good, babe.” Jimmy chuckled, bending down and looking at all of the fruit, vegetables and other seemingly random things that had been thrown in there.

“It probably won’t,” I cringed “But I have to drink it if I want to make Erin and myself better,”

“I know,” He cooed, wrapping his arms around me from behind.

“Don’t patronize me,” I scolded, a little harsher than I had meant to before turning the machine off and pouring the thick, green liquid into a glass “Here goes nothing,”

I took a deep breath and raised the glass to my lips, tipped my head back and downed the whole thing as fast as I could. Once the glass was empty, I slammed it onto the counter and gagged a little at the lingering taste of the smoothie in my mouth with the added after taste.

“Here,” Matt said, handing me the scrap of paper again “You have to think of the spell that Erin put on you and say this ten times,”

“A spell was cast, now make it past. Remove it now, don’t ask me how.”

I repeated the spell ten times and then the room fell silent for a few moments, and I looked around the room, waiting for something to happen.

“Well…” Jimmy trailed off.

“Do you feel any different?” Matt asked.

“…No…” I answered hesitantly “I don’t get it,” I frowned, picking up the paper and reading over it again “I did everything the way I was supposed to, why hasn’t it worked?”
~~~~
Jimmy and Matt decided that they were going to hang around with me for the rest of the day to make sure that I was alright and because they wanted to be here if anything happened, and when we got hungry Jimmy offered to go out and pick up a pizza.
“Matt?” I asked hesitantly, walking back into the living room with two beers in my hands.
“Yeah?” He looked from the TV up to me and smiled when he saw the beer in my hand.
“A peace offering,” I smiled weakly.
“Why are you giving me a peace offering?” He asked, taking the beer from me when I handed it to him as I sat down on the couch next to him.
“For almost killing you,” I whispered.
“Hannah-“
“No,” I cut him off “Don’t tell me that I don’t need to say anything or that I don’t have to do anything because I do, I almost murdered you in cold blood in your own home a few days ago,” I took a deep, shaky breath and let it out slowly “I’m so sorry, words can’t even begin to explain how sorry I am, for everything I’ve done to you and everything I’ve taken away from you,”
“What are you talking about?” He asked.
“The band,” I sighed “You guys are so good and you should be spending your time focusing on getting famous like you want to be, but since you guys have been involved with Erin and I, everything has all gone tits up and we could be ruining your lives, and I almost permanently ruined everything,”
“You didn’t kill me,” He almost whispered, turning to face me “That’s the main thing, so whatever we’re missing out on this year can always happen next year, it doesn’t matter when we get famous as long as we do it, it’s our dream, and if you had ended my life the other day then I know for a fact that the guys wouldn’t go through with their dreams, and then they would only have you to blame,” He laughed.
“Don’t,” I scolded with a smile, smacking his arm “I’m trying to apologize here and you’re sitting there making fun of me,”
He didn’t say anything, he just wrapped his arms around me and pulled me into a tight hug and rested his chin on my head.
“We’re going to get you girls out of this,” He whispered “I promise you, no matter what it takes, you have five guys fighting for you both,”
A smile tugged at my lips, and I closed my eyes when I felt them start to fill with tears that I
refused to shed.
“…Thank you,”
“Hannah,”
My eyes snapped open at the sound of the growling voice and I saw Sebastian standing in front of the TV.
“What are you doing here?” I asked “I thought I told you that I wanted to be left alone for a few days,”
“You did,” He smiled evilly “But that was a few days ago, and now your time is up and I thought that I would come by and pay my Queen-to-be a visit, but it appears that you already have company,”
“He’s just a friend, Sebastian.” I sighed.
“I don’t just mean this one,” He chuckled darkly as Matt moved slowly away from me “I’m talking about this one,” He snapped his fingers and Jimmy appeared on the floor beside him, bruised and bloody.
“Jimmy!” I called out, and jumped to my feet to try and get to him, but Sebastian held up his hand and stopped me in my tracks.
“That’s what I needed to see,” He smirked.
“What?” I spat.
“That look in your eyes,” He answered “The look that you get when you see him – the look that you should get when you see me!”
Sebastian lunged at me and wrapped his hands around my neck, squeezing hard on the barely faded, hand-shaped bruises that he had already created before. My neck was still bruised as well as most of the left side of my face – mainly around my eye and a little on my chin – and the bruises around my wrists that were mixed in with the rope burns.
Matt threw himself at Sebastian, but Sebastian used his mind to hold Matt in the air and my eyes darted over to him and I saw the same look of fear in his eyes that he had when I had him pinned to the ceiling a few days before.
“Leave. Her. Alone.” Jimmy growled as I watched him push himself up off of the ground and pull
something from the back of his jeans – a flask – and unscrew the lid before tossing some of the contents at Sebastian, making him hiss in pain as steam rose from the flesh on his face and neck that the liquid had touched.
Sebastian let go of my neck and I dropped to the ground in a heap, gasping for air, as he turned around to face Jimmy.
“Holy water, fucker,” Jimmy smirked before tossing some more at him, and after a moment, Sebastian disappeared with the promise to be back for me later.
Matt was dropped back onto the sofa and he let out a grunt while I rushed to Jimmy’s side as he collapsed back onto the ground.
“What did he do to you?” I asked.
“He grabbed me outside the pizza joint,” He chuckled as some blood dripped from his mouth.
“Shit,” I cursed “He almost killed you,”
“Yeah,” He agreed with a cough “I think that’s what he was going for,”
I sighed slowly and started to undo his belt and pull it from the hoops in his jeans.
“Whoa!” He laughed “What are you doing? Now isn’t really the time, babe.”
“Bite this,” I smirked, folding his belt over to double it up before shoving it in his mouth “Don’t scream too much,” I ordered before hovering my hands over his wounded body and using my
Vitalum Vitals to use some of my own life to heal him
~~~~
It was almost midnight and Matt had left not ten minutes ago with the promise to call Jimmy tomorrow to talk.

I was sitting on the counter in the kitchen with Jimmy standing between my legs as I drank the honey tea he had made me to soothe my sore throat. As I drank, Jimmy’s fingertips skimmed the bruises and marks on my wrists as well as the bruised side of my face and he pressed soft kisses to my neck.

“I can’t believe he did all of this to you,” He sighed.

“I saw you looking before,” I told him “I knew you wanted to say something,”

“I didn’t say anything because I knew that you would just tell me that it was nothing,”

“It isn’t nothing,” I told him, shaking my head.

“I know,”

“When it comes to punishment he can be kind of… intense,” I shrugged “I don’t even remember
what this was for, I don’t remember what I did,”

“I doubt that you did anything,” He said solemnly “He has been trying to turn you into a monster – into something you’re not, and by the looks of you he’s been doing anything he can think of to bring out the worst in you,”

“I’ll be alright,” I smiled up at him “Once he changes me, I’ll be almost as strong as him and he won’t be able to hurt me so much anymore,”

“You’re not going to become his wife, Hannah.” He said sternly “I promised you a long time ago that I would do anything to protect you, and I’m a man of my word, I meant what I said and I am going to get you out of this, I’m going to make you mine again,”

“… I still love you, Jimmy.” I told him “I think I always will, even when I can’t feel human emotion anymore, you’ll always be in here,” I brought my hand to my chest and rested it there and after a second, he covered my hand with his own large one.

“Don’t you dare let it stop beating,” He choked out as his eyes filled with tears “You do everything you can to keep it beating, alright?”

I stayed silent.

“Promise me,”

“I promise,” I said instantly “… I promise,”

Third Person
After Jimmy had left, Hannah had locked up the house and turned in for the night.

As she climbed into bed she couldn’t help but wonder why the spell hadn’t worked, why she still felt the anger simmering away in the bottom of her gut and wasn’t overcome with anxiety like she should have been.

Luckily, she fell asleep quickly, but it only took a couple of hours before she started tossing and turning in her sleep, soft, yet distressed, whimpers slipping from her lips as a frown tugged on her face and she started to move around a little more.

“NO!” She screamed out as she sat upright in bed.

The sweat was pouring off her, she was shaking and crying. Throwing the covers off of herself she grabbed her phone from the bedside table and with shaky hands she found the name in her contacts list that she was looking for.

“Hannah?” A sleepy voice answered, and Hannah could only let a sob slip from her lips a she finally broke down “Hannah, what’s the matter, what’s happened?” The person on the other line asked.

“Can you come over?” She sobbed into the phone “I’m sorry, I’m so, so sorry,” She tried to hold back another sob but it just came out strangled “Erin…”

“I’m on my way,”

The spell had finally worked.

So, this took so much longer to get written than I had hoped, but here we go!
