Sweet Things

His Daughter

Hannah
I was staring out the window as I waited for Jimmy to answer the phone.

“Hannah?” He answered pretty quickly.

“Jimmy, he’s here,” I told him, my voice shaking, I was completely terrified, but turned back to head for my room, planning on locking myself in for the night “The hearse is sitting on the other side of the street,” I whispered “And I can’t tell if he’s inside the car or not,” I was on the verge of crying from fear and frustration. Couldn’t I just have one relaxing day in my life?

I entered my room and turned around to close the door, but the hunter was standing in my doorway with a sadistic smile on his face. I gasped when I saw him and then he raised his hand quickly and sent me across the room, screaming as I dropped my phone, all I could do was scream Jimmy’s name.

“You stupid little witch,” He laughed evilly “You think that you and your fucking cousin can avoid me? I’ve taken down witches more powerful than the two of you in my years, not much more powerful, but the two of you… it’ll be like stepping on a bug,”

I’d hit my head off the wall when he threw me across the room, making it more difficult to stand up, but I did and the room started spinning.

“Who are you?” I asked, but he just laughed and walked into the room, stepping on my phone under his large boot and slamming my door behind him “DAAAAAD!” I screamed, but the hunter only laughed louder.

“I’m Sebastian, but… don’t you know that already?” He asked sarcastically “I mean, your mother died screaming it, screaming my name and begging me to let her go,” Anger boiled inside me, I could feel the fire coming to my palms, but when I tried to burn him… nothing happened, he just laughed.

“What the fuck have you done with my dad?” I asked, moving closer to him, big mistake.

“He left before I got here,” He told me “How do you think I got in?” I didn’t answer “Stupid girl,”

“Let me go,” I ordered, and much to my surprise, he let the door open and stepped to the side, gesturing for me to leave.

I don’t know why, but I ran past him, out the door, across the landing and down the stairs, sliding a little in my socks, but catching myself before I fell.

It was silent. He wasn’t chasing me, he wasn’t coming after me, he was really letting me go. I made it to the front door and tried to pull it open, but nothing happened. It was locked.

I held my breath and tried to listen for him, work out where he was, but I couldn’t hear anything.

“Boo,” He whispered in my ear, suddenly standing right behind me. I screamed loudly, ducked and ran around him, again, he let me run all the way into the living room “Give it up, Hannah…”
He droned “There isn’t any point, you’re not going to make it out of here alive,” I looked around me for something I could use and found the fireplace poker. I grabbed it and thought of what to do with it.

I braced myself and raised it so that it was pointing to my stomach. I had never done this before, so I was either about to top myself or injure him. I closed my eyes and hoped for the latter before thrusting the poker as hard as I could back into my stomach and he doubled over in pain, screaming as blood seeped between his fingers that covered his new wound as more poured out of his mouth. But his cries of pain slowly turned to laughter as he straightened up and removed his hands from his stomach as I pulled the item out of mine and stared at him with wide eyes.

“You can’t hurt me,” He growled “Just like your mother couldn’t hurt me, couldn’t kill me, couldn’t make sure that you would be safe for the rest of your life,”

“What did you do to her?” I found myself asking.

“Slaughtered her,” He told me casually with a shrug, and then, he was right in front of me, his eyes turned jet black and when he smiled his teeth were covered in his blood “AND NOW SHE’S BURNING IN HELL!” His voice was demonic, but I barely had a second to register it before he threw me against the wall, my back slamming against it, and he held me there “And pretty soon, you’re going to be joining your whore of a mother,” I was crying now, I wasn’t going to try and act strong. He knew my weak point, my mother, and he took all of my powers from me for the time being “Because no one has a use for you!” He roared, throwing me to the floor, but I crashed into the side table and screamed out in pain before I hit the floor.

I rolled over and grabbed my thigh with both of my hands; the blood pouring out of it was coming fast, covering the rug with my blood, the white rose, too. And making me slightly woozy, but pieces of vase were embedded deep in my skin and muscle.

“Fuck,” I whimpered.

“Now you CAN’T run from me,” He chuckled “Maybe I’ll have some fun with you before your
little rescue party gets here,” He grabbed me by the hair and started dragging me, through the room and up the stairs, my legs kicking as much as they could as I tried to get away from him, but his grip was too tight. He had me back in my bedroom and threw me onto my bed before quickly moving on top of me. I tried to vanish, to get out from underneath him, but he was just laughing as he pinned my wrists above my head and dipped his head to my neck where he started to nibble.

“Let me go,” I pleaded again, sobs racking my body.

“You feel just like her,”

After Sebastian seemed to just vanish and Erin, Jimmy and Zack came to find me, Erin had to remove the door from its hinges so that they could get in. I couldn’t get to the door after I’d collapsed onto the floor from fear and blood loss, plus, seeing what I saw;

I stood there, grabbing the sides of the sink to keep myself up. I looked at myself in the mirror and I looked barely half alive; my eyes were sunken in and I looked paler than any person I’d ever seen before. Then, for a brief second, the mirror seemed to flicker, and my reflection changed from me, to my mother, burning and screaming on the other side of the mirror.

Jimmy sat me down on the horrifyingly blood stained sheets and pressed his forehead against mine, whispering comforting words to me before rushing into the bathroom again to find the first-aid kit, returning and starting to pull the glass out of my leg.

“Was that vase broken the whole time?” Erin asked, her voice soft and comforting to me, even from where she was sat across the room.

“It was broken when we got in here… why?” Zack asked her, but she didn’t answer.

To remove all of the shards of vase from Hannah’s legs, I’d had to cut her jeans off, she was embarrassed about it at first, but once I promised that I wasn’t looking at anything other than her leg, she let me continue.

Once she was cleaned up, I wrapped her thigh up and let her get comfortable.
She made Erin sit on the bed – with fresh sheets – and lean against the headboard so that she could lay with her head on her cousins leg and close her eyes, before she made me spoon into her slightly and let me play with her hair. Nobody said anything, but eventually Hannah was calm, and she did speak.

“He’s a witch hunter,” She said, we all looked at her “I asked Tori on her website everything that she knows about him, she told me what he is and that he isn’t human, but no one knows what he is…” She trailed off, looked up at Erin, and with terror in her voice she said; “He looks demonic, and he killed our mothers,”

When the day our music assignment was due to be presented, Hannah came to school looking like she hadn’t slept since the night Sebastian came to her.

“Are you alright?” I asked as we walked to the auditorium to meet with the rest of the class.

“Fine,” She said quietly, but she didn’t look up and meet my eyes like she used to do when she spoke to me, when she felt my gaze on her, she stopped walking and I stopped beside her, still looking at her until she looked at me and sighed “Okay, I haven’t slept since…” I nodded “I can’t, every time I close my eyes, I either see him doing something to my mother, like, raping her or killing her or something, and if it isn’t that, then I’m so scared that I’m going to project myself into the netherworld, or more specifically, my own personal hell, and get stuck there, that I don’t want to sleep,”

“Should you be able to do it in your sleep?” I asked, she looked at me and hesitated before shaking her head.

“I should have full control over it,” She told me “I should only do it while awake and fully aware that that’s what I’m doing, not while I’m asleep,”

“Are you going to be up to this today?” I asked “It’s a pretty emotional song and you’re exhausted, and you know we won’t get an A if you cry halfway through the song,” I teased, only to receive a weak punch on the arm before she took my hand and lead me the rest of the way to the auditorium.

Hannah and I didn’t want to go first, but we didn’t want to go last, so we were bang in the middle and everything was set up and ready on stage for us while the class scattered around the room and watched.

I sat at the piano and smiled over at Hannah who was standing at the front of the stage. The lights dimmed a little until we were almost completely only under spotlights.

“This is a song that we wore, once I was inspired by my grandmother,” She started “She told me all about her life, leading up to where she is now, I changed the ending of her story of course, but this story will tell you all about how my father ended up being the best thing to ever happen to her,”

We were given the nod to go ahead, and Hannah started to sing before I started to play.

‘”Everything’s gonna be alright” she whispers to herself.

She was only six years old that night as she hid behind that shelf,
‘cause Daddy had a little too much to drink and Mama didn’t want her to feel the pain she felt,
But she still felt the pain…”

“Well ten years, they came and went and dad was gone.

So she looked for love in other men and tried to act strong.
Broken hearts, and scars in only places she could see,
‘cause she just wanted, she just wanted to feel something.”

“And as she sat there on that bed, thinking ‘bout what those girls said,

Tears streamed down her eyes, she cried; “If there’s a God out there,
Please hear my prayer, I’m lost and I’m scared, and I’ve got nowhere else to go.
I’ve come a long, long way but I’m not sure I can make it much farther…
So if you’re listening, could you give a helping hand, to your daughter?”
“Well her path started to change, she reached out and grabbed God’s grace
And finally, she saw a light
Until that night where she decided one drink was alright and one thing lead to another.
Next thing you know, nine months go by, she’s a mother…”

“And as she laid there in that bed, stroking that small angel’s head

Tears streamed down her eyes, she cried; “If there’s a God out there,
Please hear my prayer, I’m lost and I’m scared
And I’ve got nowhere else to run,
I’ve come a long, long way but I’m not sure I can be the best mother
So if you’re listening, could you give a helping hand, to your daughter?”

“Well the baby grew into a boy, who became her pride and joy

He loved her like no man could and her heart felt peace,
‘cause she finally understood Gods love.”

“And as she laid there in that bed, ninety-nine years old

She grabbed her son’s hand and said; “There’s something you must know…”

“There is a God up there, who heard my prayer

I was lost and afraid and I had nowhere else to go
I had no clue, what to do… and then He sent me you…”

“So if you’re lost and afraid and you feel so alone, don’t worry child

‘cause there’s a father who will love you as His own,
Just like he loved his daughter, like he loved his daughter.”

Hannah belted out every note, she never missed one, just like she never missed a beat, and by the end of it, the whole class, teacher and all and a few people – the guys – who had drifted in while passing during their free period, were standing, clapping and cheering.

I ran to Hannah, wrapped her up in my arms and hugged her tightly before lifting her off of the ground and crashing my lips against hers.

I couldn’t stop myself.

Notes

So, this is really just a filler, and the song that they wrote together!
Of course, this isn't my song and I DO NOT OWN it, but it is an original, by the amazingly talented, Molly Kestner, and you can hear her singing it here :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35say5G5cz8
Amazing, right?
Anyway, i hope you all enjoy this and more to come from Erin!
