Rotting Revolution

Isolated In Defiance

The sky was filled with gray clouds, the sun only peeking through cracks every so often. The wind blew gently and felt moist against the pale petite woman's skin while she sat on her knees in front of several large rocks, which most people would see as lawn decoration, but to her they were gravestones. Some of them had the remains of bodies, the others didn't, but all them had names of people she loved engraved into them. "Do you's think I can do this?" The short haired girl asked as if she would receive an answer.

After a short amount of time she began to speak. "I don't like that I'm not afraid..." Maybe this is what suicidal really feels like, she thought to herself. "I'm only doing this 'cause I'm not gonna be weak, sit back and wait to get my fuckin' guts ripped outta me like they want me to do, I rather go down swinging a blood covered bat." A small chuckle escaped from her mouth as she shook her head standing up and walked away. She opened her backdoor, entering her house continuing though and out the front door.

She had been preparing for weeks, and now she was finally ready. Well, as ready as she ever was going to be. She had been stocking up on several items over the last couple weeks, spending every last penny she had to her name. Not that money meant too much anymore, but in some of the very few towns that were left they were still money obsessed. Typically huh? Most of America is pretty much lifeless, over run by the living dead and people are still dwelling on the matters of money here. Ignorance in it's highest form, ladies and gentlemen.

Anyways, she was ready to leave this town. She thought it was actually kind of funny though. She had always dreamed of leaving this place and now she was, but when she had dreamt it up, it went a little differently than this. She dreamed of her Grandmother in tears squeezing her body in a death grip of a hug, telling her how much she would miss her. Her Brother saying not to forget the little-tall people when she made it big as a famous writer, after hugging her. And her Bestfriend smiling at her with a hint of saddness in her eyes as she says you're finally getting outta here. She would take back every dream she ever had of leaving the people she loved if it meant the past seven months never would have happened.
It made her tear up thinking about it. "Fuck," she muttered with a cigarette perched between her lips as she wiped her eyes quickly, continuing to load things into her red and black Ford Bronco.

She had liked to be alone before The Rotters came, and now she finally had her loneness. Well, besides her furry companion, Buddy. A slightly large goden tan Boxer/Pit mix, a rather beautiful dog in her eyes. Buddy was pretty much a teddy bear for her, to hug and love when she needed, ever since he wandered into her life. And now Buddy was the only living thing she had and needed.

Suddenly Buddy's familiar growl snapped her out of her thoughts, as she sat the last full gas can in the back of the Bronco and snapped around looking among the area of her front yard. Buddy continued to growl as she picked up the closes tool in the back of her truck which was a gardening hoe. She slowly started walking toward where her dog's nose was pointed, while he stayed by the truck. The young woman peered around a large banyan tree in her yard and saw a squirral muching on something. She let go of the breath in her throat, relaxing as she turned to glare at Buddy. "It's a fuckin squirral, you butt-nug." She chuckled petting him on the head as she walked to the back of the Bronco.

Buddy begun to growl again, causing her to turn around, looking down at him. He bared his teeth, as the hair on his back stood. She followed his gaze, seeing a figure running towards her, a couple houses away. She couldn't quite make out the person, until it was a house away, causing her to grip harder on her tool. "Come on, fucker," she muttered, as it got closer and swung, giving a hard blow to the head. The metal end now jammed in it's ear, as she held on tightly to the long handle, forcing it to the ground. With the hoe wedged in it's ear, it made garged noises and flailed around, she had to use all her strength to hold it down. After postioning herself, she stomped her boot down on the metal, causing it to go deep into it's skull and it stopped moving all together.

She let out a deep breath and sat her boot of the top of it's head, yanking the tool out. "Shit," she muttered and began examining the body. The skin was pale, the eyes were blood shot, and there was several wounds on it's face and neck. It was a Zombie alright. A much fresher one as a matter offact. Although, she could have been able to tell as it was running, because much older ones walk, drag, limp, even sometimes crawl, and they also have this annoying moaning sound. Those are easier to kill for obvious reasons.

Buddy slowly crept up next to her, and she turned patting him on the head. "Good boy," she smile down at him. "Come on, let's get the fuck outta here."

There wasn't a cloud in sight and the sun was bright and warm. She wasn't sure when she had drove far enough away from the clouds, but she was thankful and well, happy. She had just passed a large sign that read Now Entering Georgia, though she hadn't paid much attention, because she was preoccupied singing at the ton of her lungs to one of her many CD's she had packed. She just felt so wonderful with the music blaring, the winding flowing through the rolled down windows, the sun shinning down and the wide open fields she drove past. Buddy was also in a splendid mood with his little nub of a tail wagging as his head stuck out of the window of the passengers seat.

She sighed contently glancing in the review mirror, catching a glimpse of her light brown eyes. She even felt beautiful, which she hadn't in a long time, because in the beginning she stopped keeping up with her appearance, more worried about her life than how she looked. The day before she had planned to departure, she had taken a pair of clippers to her thick brown hair that sat a few inches above her shoulders. Shaving the sides and back, leaving only the top which was now only about four to five inches long.

"Bud-Bud," she slightly shout, getting her dogs attention, to which he now stood with his front paws on the center console, looking at her. "Was this a good idea?" He only licked her face, causing her to laugh wiping the slobber off her cheek. "I think so too."
