Let It Burn

Dealing With Drama

"So we're in Germany, and Jimmy kills a pigeon," Brian is saying and I can tell he is trying not to laugh while he retells this story. "And these cops come up and mace him."

As the others focus on Brian, I let my eyes wander over to Jimmy who I noticed is sneaking looks my way also. I give him a small smile and he returns it.

That's when I realized I was flirting. Me, a four hundred year old vampire was the one flirting with the human and not the other way around. This was one special man.

I had never seen so much life in one human being. In children, of course, but never in a full grown man. He could barely sit still in his seat and I noticed that every now and then, he would brush his arm against mine and I'd get a small reaction much like the sparks from before.

What was it about Jimmy that did this to me? I shouldn't be affected by him. He was a human. A hot blood bag with only one life. I was the ultimate killer and I was attracted to my prey. It was as preposterous as a lion cuddling with a gazelle.

And yet I can not deny the obvious feelings I was getting for this man I had only met an hour ago.

I hadn't realized that my thoughts had me completely staring at Jimmy and Brian was done with his story. I heard somebody clear their throat and I shook my head as if in a daze and turned to see the whole table looking at me. If I could blush, I would have.

Michelle looked at me with disgust and scoffed. "Could you make your 'fan-girling' a little less obvious?" she said, rolling her eyes. "You were basically drooling over Jimmy and newsflash, hooker, he's got a woman."

I rose an eyebrow at her. "'Fan-girling'? What on earth are you talking about?"

Val elbowed her sister and gave me an apologetic smile. "Please forgive my sister. She doesn't know when to shut up."

I sat up straight and smiled back. "Oh don't worry about it. It takes a lot more than words to get to me," I said. "But I was wondering something. What does fan-girling mean?"

All of the guys laughed and Zack draped and arm over my shoulder. "You don't know who we are? That's new," he said taking another swig of his beer.

"I'm sorry," I said looking around the table. "I'm afraid I don't."

"We're in a band," Johnny said. "We're called Avenged Sevenfold and we usually find girls who are more than eager to party with us."

Matt nodded. "It's kind of rare to find somebody who doesn't recognize us," he said. "It's nice."

I shrugged. "I'm sorry. I've never heard of you. My taste in music is...quite old."

Michelle made a rude noise in her throat and Brian put his hand over hers and whispered something in her ear. To mortals, that would have been impossible to hear over the noise in the bar, but since I have super hearing, I heard it as if he were shouting it: "Will you cut it out? You're embarassing me."

At that, Michelle sat back with wide eyes. "I'm embarassing you?!"

At this point the entire table was staring at them and I grinned. This was interesting. I loved it when women got jealous over me.

Michelle pointed a manicured nail at me but stayed focused on her fiance. "This woman shows up dressed like a skank and all of a sudden, everybody is attracted to her like sharks to blood. THAT is embarassing!" She was starting to yell now and was getting the attention of most of the people around us.

Val put a hand on her shoulder. "Chelle, will you please just calm down? Deirdre didn't do anyhting to you."

"Exactly," Jimmy said in my defense. "I know I have Leana. Do you really think I'd throw that away? Deirdre is new to town and we are being friendly."

Michelle rolled her eyes again and I wanted to pop them out and shove them down her throat. "Oh please. Is everybody under her fucking 'whore spell'? She is obviously a fan and all she wants is your cock, Jimmy."

I was getting tired of her and I had to push down the urge to jump over the table and suck her dry. "Look, Michelle," I said, focusing on her and I immediately felt her fear. Humans have a deep instinct to be afraid of me and hers just kicked in. "Not every person that walks passed you wants everything you have. I happen to have a great life and I wouldn't want to be you in a million years. Not because of who you are with but because I could never lower myself to be as nasty as you."

Michelle's mouth dropped open as she picked her margarita up and tried to splash me with it. But I easily dodged it and it flew passed me, hitting the bartender who had been bringing our next round of drinks. It hit him square in the chest making him drop the tray of drinks.

I covered my mouth to stop myself from laughing as I watched Michelle's face flush pure red. "Oh my God!" she said. "I'm so sorry!"

Jimmy and Johnny stood to help the poor man and help him clean the mess up a bit. After things had settled down some, the bartender brought his attention to Michelle who was clinging onto Brian, trying to hide from it all. "I'm going to have to ask you to leave, miss," the man said.

"But...but that's not fair!" Michelle exclaimed. "I was aiming for her!"

"Please! Just leave, miss," the bartender said again and he was clearly pissed off.

She stood and grabbed her purse. "Come on guys, let's go," she said turning to leave but when nobody stood with her, she turned back to the table. "I said, 'let's go'. Come on Brian!"

Brian shook his head. "No, Chelle. That was fucking stupid and immature. Why don't you go outside and cool down? We'll be out there soon."

Michelle stood there, dumbfounded, with her mouth agape. She then turned to me and narrowed her eyes. "Watch your back, bitch. This is my town." She stomped her foot like a child, turned on her heel and marched out of the bar.

Once she was gone, Jimmy turned to me with a small smile. "I'm sorry about her. She usually isn't like that."

I waved my hand dismissively. "Don't worry about it. I'm tougher than I look," I said as I stood. "If you'll excuse me, I have to use the ladies room. I will be back soon."

As soon as I was out of their sight, I ducked behind a wall and quickly moved towards the door so nobody would see me leaving. Once I was outside, I was glad to see that Michelle was all alone, smoking a cigarette.

When she saw me, she rolled her eyes and stomped her cigarette out on the ground. "Oh what do you want now? Was embarassing me not enough?"

I stood right in front of her and we were eye level with each other. "I've come to teach you a lesson."

She scoffed. "Oh please! What could you possibly do to-"

Michelle's sentence was cut off due to the fact that I had grabbed her throat, lifted her off the ground, and slammed her against the wall. I leaned in close to her ear and whispered, "Listen to me, you stupid cunt. You're lucky I don't drain your nasty ass right here right now for how you treated me. I am a very skilled predator and I could crush your windpipe right now. Nod if you understand me."

She whimpered and slowly nodded her head. "Good girl," I said. "Now I'm going to get this over with before anybody comes to find you."

I leaned back and locked my eyes with hers. As I stared into her hazel eyes, I felt her relax in my hand as I had control over her mind. I gently placed her back on her feet and let go of her but kept my eyes on hers. "Now listen to me, Michelle," I said in a low tone. "You will not remember any of the events that have occured out here tonight. You will never speak to me the way you did inside the bar and when I come back out here, you will apologize to me. You will tell the others that you were faint from the heat. Do you understand, Michelle?"

"Yes, I do," she answered flatly.

"Very good. Now, I want you to close your eyes and as soon as I am gone, you will remember none of this," I said as I started to back away.

Michelle closed her eyes and slumped against the wall with a sigh. I smiled, turned and quickly made my way inside, careful to make sure I was not seen. I entered the bathroom, washed my hands and walked back out to the table where everybody was still sitting. Jimmy smiled and stood when I approached.

I returned the smile and addressed the rest of them. "I believe it's time I go. It's getting late and I have things to take care of."

Matt nodded as he and everyone else stood to leave. "You're right. It's about time we left as well."

"Besides," Brian added. "I have to go get Chelle or she'll throw a hissy fit."

We all chuckled at that as we all filed out of the bar. I stayed near Jimmy if only to feel the sparks again. I knew that he was claimed by another woman, but all I wanted was to take him in my arms and hold him for all eternity. I didn't want to feed on him, I only wanted to be with him.

At that thought, I stopped in my tracks. What was I thinking?! I didn't keep humans more than a few days and even then I would drink from them.

As the rest of them left, Jimmy noticed that I had stopped. He stood in front of me and looked down with those beautiful blue eyes. "Deirdre? Is everything ok?"

I smiled up at him. "Of course. I'm just tired. Come on, let's go check on Michelle."

When we got outside, I saw the others huddled around Michelle as Brian was helping her stand up. "What happened? Are you ok?" Brian was asking as we got closer.

Michelle nodded slowly. "Yes, Brian. I'm alright. I just got a little faint from the heat. That's all. Let's go home? I'm very tired."

She turned to leave but when she saw me standing near her, she stopped and faced me. "Oh, Deirdre. I wanted to apologize for how I acted inside the bar and say that I wll never treat you like that again."

Everyone was looking at her with shocked faces, including me (after four hundred years, I've become quite the actress). "Are you sure you didn't hit your head?" Val said, laughing.

Michelle nodded. "I'm sure. I just feel awful for the way I treated you, Deirdre."

I gave her a small smile. "All is forgiven. Goodnight everyone."

They all turned to walk to their cars, but Jimmy stayed behind. Once they were gone, he faced me. "Ok, this is going to sound very strange, but earlier when I touched you and all through the night, I've gotten strange...feelings when I touch you. What is that about?"

I shrugged. "I honestly don't know, Jimmy. But it's best your forget about it, alright? You do have a woman to go home to."

He nodded and took a step back. "Right. You're right. It's probably nothing. Goodnight, Deirdre."

"Goodnight, Jimmy." I was turning to leave when I found myself reaching into my purse for my pen. As soon as I found it, I whirled back around and grabbed his arm, ignoring the sparks that once again shot through my body. Before he could say anything, I pulled his hand up to my face and wrote my number down on his hand. "If you ever need anyhting," I said as I reached up and gave him a small peck on the cheek.

I quickly turned and headed the opposite way towards my truck and faught the urge to turn back around. I got in my truck and peeled out of the parking lot mentally kicking myself.

I had acted like a lovestruck teenager back there! What was happening to me? Whatever it was, it was scary and scared was a brand new feeling for me.
