Let It Burn

At The Bar

Kyle was still asleep when I parked my truck a few blocks from his house. I did this because I didn't want anybody to recognize me or my truck. You really do get wise in your old age.
I gently lifted the sleeping boy out of the back seat and carried him in my arms to his house. I ran so that nobody could possibly see me. Vampires move too quickly for human eyes to see.
I stood outside of Kyle's window and after moving him to one arm, I used the other to lift me up to the second story. I knew his window would still be unlocked from when I had glamoured him into following me two nights ago.
I pushed the window open and pulled Kyle and myself through it and into his room. I laid him on his bed and pulled the covers around him. I sat on the edge of his bed and watched him as he dreamt of me. I ran my hand over the back of his and I saw him smile again at my touch.
I had always had a connection with those I fed from, especially if they lived. It was as if their blood still called out to me if their heart was still pumping. I knew I'd see him again.
I watched him for a few more minutes before I heard his mother coming up the stairs. I quickly jumped out of the window, landed gracefully on my feet and ran to my truck.
As soon as I left his neighborhood, I decided to drive around Huntington Beach so I could have some fun. I wasn't looking for dinner, just company. It was a warm night, not that I really felt hot or cold anymore, but I still had the window down so I could have the wind in my hair.
I was driving around when I found the perfect place to go: Johnny's Bar. It looked like the kind of place I could find somebody to spend my night with.
I pulled into the parking lot and saw that it was pretty full for only nine o'clock. I got out of my truck and moved slowly (for me) so humans would think I was one of them. I had had a lot of trouble with blending in when I had first been turned. It had taken me several decades before I had it down and if it hadn't been for my Creator, it would would have taken me longer.
Forcing down thoughts of him, I made my way into the bar. Once I was in, I was hit with the smell of beer, smoke, sweat and blood. I walked up to the bar and sat on a barstool. I ordered a beer then turned around to look at everyone here. There were mostly men here and a few women who seemed to be clinging to the better looking men. That's how women were though, they wrapped themselves around the men they had claimed as their own. We had been like that since I could remember, and I had an amazing memory.
The bartender set my drink down and he winked at me when I looked over at him. I smiled flirtatiously at him before I brought the cold beer up to my lips. I could tell he was hoping I would get drunk and he could have his way with me, but the joke was on him because alcohol had no affect on me whatsoever. I drank it for appearances only.
I turned back around and looked over the crowd. A group of guys over by the pool table caught my eye. There were all good looking and covered in tattoos. There were five guys in all and two girls who had to be twins standing beside them. They looked like my kind of guys so I made my way over to them, beer in hand.
The shortest one was the first to see me and he smiled as I approached them. He set his drink down on the side of the pool table and came around it to talk to me. He was about the same height as me and his hair was black and done up in a medium sized mohawk.
"Hey there," he said once he was in front of me. "I've never seen you around here before."
I laughed. "Is that your version of 'come here often'?" I asked and it made him blush. His friends had been watching us and now they laughed at how I had made him blush.
The taller one with black hair and a handcuffs tattoo on his neck put an arm around his shorter friend's shoulders. "Are you hitting on her, Short Shit? Oooh I'm gonna tell Lacey!"
I laughed again as he elbowed the tall one in the ribs. They both stopped and smiled at me. The tall one stood up straight and his smile was breathtaking.
Living as long as I had, I've seen a lot of beautiful men but this one was special. There was a light in his eyes that meant he had a lot of life in him. It was rare to find that anymore and I was intrigued.
I took a step closer to him. "Hi. I'm Deirdre."
"I'm Jimmy," he said and he pointed to the short one. "This here is Johnny. The hulk over there is Matt, the one with just-got-electrocuted hair is Brian, and the drunk one is Zacky."
The one who had just been introduced as Brian, came around the table to stand beside his friends. "Who's the hottie?" he asked and was swatted on the arm by the one twin who had brown hair.
"Knock it off!" she said before she glared at me. "Hey, I'm Michelle. I'm Brian's fiance and my sister over there is Val. She's married to Matt. Each of these boys has a girl so you might as well turn around and go back to whatever hole you crawled out of."
This girl should really know how to watch what she says to strangers. But I decided to let it slide just this once and I smiled sweetly at her. "I'm not interested in that, at all," I said. "I'm new here and saw you guys having fun so I thought I could join but I guess it's a members only party."
I started to turn around to leave when I felt a warm hand on my arm and for the first time in over four hundred years, sparks were sent up and down my entire body. I gasped as I turned to see who had touched me and I saw that it was Jimmy. By the look on his face, he had felt something similiar when he had touched me.
He quickly pulled his arm back and cleared his throat. "Um...you don't have to go. Michelle didn't mean to be rude. Stick around and drink with us. We'll tell you all about Huntington Beach."
I nodded since I was still unable to speak. What had just happened? Why had we felt that when Jimmy touched me?
I sat down at one of the tables between Jimmy and Zacky. I pushed the thought of the sparks to the back of my mind while I laughed and drank with these five guys
