I stepped into the kitchen area and all heads turned towards me. I heard a couple of "wows" and "woahs" escape a few mouths from people I hadn't recognized. I immediately blushed a crimson red and started playing with the hem of my shirt. Well hell, I didn't know he planned on inviting MORE tatted rockstars over. I would've at least worn jeans. Waiting for something besides another "wow' to escape into the atmosphere, I built up the guts to speak but before I could, I was interrupted by short guy with equally short and blonde hair.
"Hey Gates, who's the chick?" he questioned, only breaking his gaze for two seconds.
"That 'chick' has a name, and it happens to be Chloe." he answered as he smacked him on the arm.
"Well I'm Johnny, and it's nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you too, Johnny." I blushed.
The next person to speak up was a tall, lanky fellow by the name of Jimmy. He had the most beautiful blue eyes I'd ever seen before. He was a total sweetheart and very lively. Everything he did produced giggles from all of us. After Jimmy introduced himself, the last to speak was Zacky. He was a bit taller than Johnny, and had snakebites. He smiled at me as he told me a bit about himself.
"So, Gates, is this your new girlfriend?" Jimmy asked as he made kissy faces between the two of us. I couldn't help but blush again as Val slid a drink my way.
"No, Jimmy. It's a long story." he answered, clearly embarrased by the question.
"I like stories. I'd like to know if you don't mind." he retaliated.
I shifted in my seat as I felt my nerves tense and my blood heat up. I didn't know what Brian would tell the guys. Without realizing it, I shot him a look at him that made him think twice about what he said. Quickly understanding what the look meant, he made sure his response was good.
"She uh-she was at the beach and we got to talking and she said she needed a place to stay. You know, aspiring musician and all. She seemed cool so I figured I could help. You guys know how it is. We toured in a giant van and depended on good ol' Papa Haner when he could help." he replied.
Shooting him a thank-you smile, I watched along as everyone went into stories about when their band was trying to make it big. Conversation was flowing along nicely when Matt asked me what instrument did I play. Completely caught off-guard, I responded with "Excuse me?"
"I was wondering what instrument you played. Y'know,since you're a musician." he said with a chuckle.
"Oh. Well, I played guitar and I sing." I responded
"Played?" he and Brian questioned.
"Yeah, played. My guitar broke and I wasn't able to get it fixed. Too expensive and no money." I replied.
"Hmm. Maybe you could sing for us one day?" Zacky questioned with a hint of excitement.
"I dunno, I mean I haven't sang in a while..."
Before I could finish my thought, Jimmy snatched me up off my chair and stood next to me, whispering words of encouragement for me to sing a song. As I nodded, I began to think of a nice song to sing. Finally settling on Paramore's 'Brick by Boring Brick", I took a few deep breaths and closed my eyes, willing the words to come out.
"So one day he found her crying
Coiled up on the dirty ground
Her prince finally came to save her
And the rest you can figure out
But it was a trick and the clock struck twelve
Well make sure to build your house
brick by boring brick
or the wolf's gonna blow it down."
I opened my eyes and found everyone appalled at how well I sang. Hell, even I was shocked.
"My goodness, that was beautiful!" Val exclaimed.
"Thanks." I beamed in response.
I felt Brian's eyes on me and I returned the glance. There was a feeling, a spark of some sort between us. I walked back to my seat on the stool and popped a few grapes in my mouth before taking a swig of my drink. I snuck another look at Brian only to notice him still looking.
"Deep breaths Chloe, deeeep breaths."
