Brian's Letters To Matthew

Zacky Baker is the adopted son of Maria and James Baker who live in Huntington Beach, California. The married couple, after many years of trying, couldn’t get pregnant. They adopted Zacky when he was a month old who, besides the fact that he hasn’t been living long, has no information except for his name that the Bakers decided to keep. After Zacky, Maria and James didn’t try for another baby, but was still blessed two happy healthy babies. Their daughter, Zina, was born when Zacky was four years old. The youngest child, Mattie, was born when Zacky was eight years old.

Zina is close to her family, but hang out with her girlfriends more than her brothers. Mattie, who’s still young but somewhat awkward, loves hanging out and being with his big brother which Zacky doesn’t mind at all. Even Zacky’s boyfriend, Jimmy, is okay with Mattie hanging around and treats Mattie as if he was his own little brother.

Zacky doesn’t have many friends and he’s okay with that. Just his little brother Mattie, his boyfriend Jimmy, and his best friend Johnny.

Zacky met Johnny in kindergarten and have been friends ever since. Jimmy was the new kid freshmen year. He and Zacky started out as friends but soon became something more. Now, at the age of sixteen, Zacky has been with Jimmy for two years.

Zacky is waiting for his order at a local bakery. He decided to grab some donuts. He had to get them from this bakery because they’re the only bakery that makes Jimmy’s favorite donuts. Zacky had to wait for a couple people to get their baker goods before he could get his own. He walks around the place, looking at the pictures and décor that covers the wall. He gets by the back tables when something catches his eye. A medium brown leather book, that looks like journal, sits on the back table in the corner. Zacky lifts the cover to see the classic journal page-

Just the handwriting itself made Zacky want to read its contents.

“Order for Zacky Baker!”

Zacky snaps out of his thoughts, “Uh… coming!”
Zacky hesitates for a second before grabbing the journal and his donuts.

Mattie eats his chocolate covered donut that his big brother gave him while Jimmy went through the rest of the bag. As those two lie on Zacky’s bed, Zacky sits in the black swivel chair by his computer desk and stares at the journal in his hands.
“Why do you keep looking at that Zacky?” Mattie asks.
“I don’t know,” Zacky answers, “It just looks really interesting.”
“Just open it up Babe,” said Jimmy, “I’m actually getting curious of what it says.”
“Read it like a storybook Big Brother!” Mattie cheers.
Zacky chuckles a little at Mattie’s excitement. Zacky takes a deep breath before opening the cover and turning the cover page then begins to read,

“Dear Matthew…”
