Chance Of A Lifetime
“Someone get the paramedics!” I heard someone yell loudly, causing me to flinch.
“No... No need for that.” I mumbled as I slowly opened my eyes and sat up, resting on my elbows. The sight before me shocked me to no end. Towering above me, and surrounding me as if I were a dead jellyfish on a beach, were all five members of Avenged Sevenfold.
“What-what’s-why .... Oh!” I said embarrassingly when I remembered what had happened no more then 20 minutes ago. They all chuckled, making me blush and bow my head. I sat further up and grabbed my beanie from behind me that must’ve fallen off during my fall.
“Are you okay? What happened! We thought you were dead!” The Rev shouted, almost inaudibly.
“I’m fine, I’m prone to panic attacks sometimes. It’s not a big deal.” I shrugged it off and slowly stood up, with the help of Zacky.
“Are you sure you’re okay? Do you need some water?” Syn asked worriedly, making me smile.
“Yeah, water sounds pretty awesome right now. Thanks!” He nodded and walked off to get my water. He returned in no time and I took the bottle from him with a thankful smile. I twisted off the cap and chugged the whole thing in a matter of seconds.
“Holy shit. You downed that as if you haven’t drunk anything in days!” Shadow’s said astonished.
I chuckled awkwardly and looked down, not wanting to bring up the fact that my foster family doesn’t allow me to have any of their food or water, meaning I usually go without since I barely had any money.
They continued looking at me cautiously, as if I would crumble and fall any second.
“Guys, I’m fine! No big deal!”
“You didn’t look fine laying on the floor unconscious!” Johnny tried to argue but I just glared at him and groaned.
“I’m fine. Everything’s fine. We’re all fine, okay!? This isn’t the first time this has happened.” This seemed to calm them down.
“Ok, enough with the heavy. That was fucking incredible out there!” Zacky shouted and hugged me. I smiled and thanked him when the hug was over.
“I’m proud of you, kid. How the hell are you so amazing at drums, at only 15? I’m 24 and your even better then me!” The Rev exclaimed as he plopped down on one of the couches they had put there.
“Are you kidding me? You’re a drumming god! I’m no where near as good as you!”
“Aw thank you!” He exclaimed.
Suddenly my phone started ringing from in my bra, so I took it out and checked the screen. My eyes widened and my heart stopped when I saw who was contacting me.
“Luna, what’s wrong? You look like you’ve just seen a ghost!” Shadow’s explained but I just slowly shook my head. I excused myself and walked a few feet away from the guys to answer the call.
“LUNA YOU SATAN WORSHIPPING, UGLY WASTE OF SPACE. HOW DARE YOU SNEAK OUT OF MY HOUSE. WHEN YOU RETURN YOU ARE NEVER ALLOWED OUT OF THIS HOME AGAIN, DO YOU HEAR ME? YOU ARE A DISGRACE AND A FILTHY LITTLE ROACH. YOU MEAN NOTHING TO ANYONE, WHAT MAKES YOU THINK YOU CAN LEAVE WITHOUT MY CONSENT YOU WORTHLESS EXCUSE FOR A HUMAN BEING? I’M GIVING YOU TO THE COUNT OF THREE TO TELL ME WHERE IN GOD’S NAME YOU ARE AND I’M COMING TO PICK YOU UP AND TAKE YOU HOME YOU WORTHLESS SCUM!” My foster father yelled through the phone, loud enough so that nearly everyone in the room could hear, even over all the conversations happening.
“I-I’m uhh...” I stuttered as everyone looked at me shocked.
“WELL SPEAK FOR CHRIST’S SAKE! YOU STUPID LITTLE GIRL, YOU WILL NEVER AMOUNT TO ANYTHING, YOU MIGHT AS WELL DIE! NOW TELL ME WHERE YOU ARE YOU FILTHY HARLOT.” He screamed once again, my heart breaking even more with every word.
“I’’m at Big Joe’s Theatre.” I whispered, trying to fight back tears.
“I KNEW IT. YOU WERE SEEING SOME OF THOSE DEVIL BANGING BANDS PLAY THEIR POOR EXCUSE FOR MUSIC. EVERYTHING ABOUT YOU DISGUSTS ME.” He yelled once again before all I could hear was the dial. I ended the call and looked at the ground ashamed and embarrassed.
No one said anything for a long while until Shadow’s spoke.
“What the hell was that? Who the fuck thinks they have the right to speak to you like that? I’ll fucking kill them!” He seethed. I looked up at the guys with tears streaming down my face. Shadow’s and Syn looked pissed off, Zacky V and Johnny Christ looked sad and sympathetic but the Rev, he looked completely outraged. He looked as if he could rip someones head off right then and there. His chest was heaving up and down and he was glaring and scowling. He looked scary as hell.
“Yeah, that’s my foster dad for you.” I said quietly as I sat on the ground. I sniffed and pawed at my eyes, wiping under them to fix any smudged makeup.
I laid down on my back and took a few deeps breaths, but I didn’t notice that my shirt had rode up to the point where you could see my hip bones and just underneath my belly button.
“No. No, no, no please no! Please tell me he didn’t do those to you!” Zacky pleaded, sounding in pain. I looked at him confused but followed his gaze down to my stomach, where multiple cuts and bruises were on full view. I gasped and immediately pulled my shirt down, to cover up all the reminders of how I was never good enough.
“Luna... what does he do to you?” Syn asked cautiously, as if not to trigger anything but before I could stop them, the memories came flooding back.
“Luna get down here now!”
I sighed but obeyed my step father, not wanting to get in anymore trouble.
As I reached the living room, I found him a drunken mess on the couch with an empty pizza box and beer cans littering the floor.
“Clean this up, you whore.” He slurred drunkenly, but I obeyed. I cautiously walked over and started picking up all the empty bottles, but as I turned around to retrieve a garbage bag, the filthy man behind me smacked my ass as hard as he could, and while it’s happened before, he grabbed and squeezed this time.
I was completely astonished, disgusted and outraged. Without a second thought, I dropped everything I was carrying, turned around and slapped him hard across the face.
“You stupid bitch! You’ll pay for that!” He seethed as he stood and grabbed me by the hair, throwing me against the wall beside us. I groaned in pain and slid down the wall, the impact my back made with the hard wall being too painful to handle. The one I regretfully was forced to call ‘father’ took advantage of the state I was in and kicked me square in the gut, making me heave over and cough. The kicking and punching continued, leaving multiple cuts and bruises all over my body before I blacked out from the pain, but I’d have rather died then woken the way I had.
When I came to, I was laid in the hallway. Naked. And in indescribable pain. Everywhere.
“Shh, Luna it’s okay!” Rev cooed as he hugged me and rocked me back and forth. I sobbed into his chest and clutched onto him for dear life.
I had been so strong for so long, but my wall broke down, and now I was a sobbing mess. I continued crying, letting everything I had kept in, out until I calmed down. I pulled out of the hug, and looked up pathetically at The Rev as he smiled kindly down at me. I smiled back and took a deep breath.
“There’s those dimples I’ve been waiting to see again since you were performing.” He said making me blush and smile wider.
All of the guys came around and gave me comforting hugs, as did both of The Berry’s making me feel a bit better.
“Luna, I think it’s best if we call the cops. How your foster father spoke to you and treats you is not okay.” Shadow’s explained as he held me by my dainty shoulder, at arm length away from himself.
“Yeah, I guess. I’m just scared, Shadows.” I said quietly.
“Matt. It’s Matt.” He said softly as he smiled at me.
“The Rev is Jimmy, Zacky Vengeance is just Zacky, Johnny Christ is Johnny, and Synyster Gates is Brian. You’re more then just a fan to us now, you can call us by our real names.” He continued on. All the guys agreed and things were about to go back to normal conversation when the back door swung open, and the devil himself walked in, looking angrier then ever.
“You! Get over here now!” He said forcefully, and I hung my head and started slowly walking over to him, when suddenly a hand grabbed mine and pulled me back. I was pushed behind the guys as they went to interrogate my evil foster parent. The Berry’s took me to another room and sat me down on a comfortable couch.
“Hunny, lay down. You’ve dealt with too much already.” Matt Berry said comfortingly. I sighed and laid my head on his shoulder when he sat beside me on the couch.
I focused on slowing down my breathing and erratically beating heart, but they were still working twice as hard as usual. I zoned in on the blood pumping through my body, and the sounds around me. Then I focused on closing off my mind, trying my hardest to calm myself down from everything that has recently happened.
Soon enough my breathing slowed down and I closed my eyes, letting myself slip into a semi-coma, hoping to awake and everything will be better then before; or not wake at all.
