Seize The Day

The next morning I woke up around six, Cassy was still sleeping and I knew not to wake her up or she would be super pissy, so I took a walk. The sun had barley risen and there was almost no one on the beach except a few joggers. This was perfect this was everything I wanted and more. Ever since I was little I always wanted to live in California and on the beach, the fact that I got to do it with one of the best friends was the best perk in the world. I sat down watching the waves roll in when my phone rang. I looked at the caller I.D. it was one of my dad’s best friends Paul Kein. “Hello?”
“Hey darlin’ how is California so far?”
“Great Paul.” I said smiling looking out over the ocean. “It’s everything I wanted so far.
“Good to hear darlin’ well I called because I have a buddy out there and he needs help around his pub, you wouldn’t be servin’ just doing stock and such.”
“That sounds great Paul.”
“Great! I’ll send you the address and his number, call him around ten to tell him you’ll take the job.”
“Thanks Uncle Paul I will.” I said smiling.
“You take care hun and good luck, I love you.”
“I love you too, and thanks again.”
I hung up and looked out over the water again, this is my home. I smiled and laid back on the sand.
I laid on the beach for fifteen minutes before my phone beeped; I had two texts from Cassy
“Kay I’m hungry! L - C”
“Feed me!L- C”
“We don’t have anything in the house we need to go shopping. –K”
“BUT I’M HUNGRY!!! -L”
I laughed looking at my phone typical Cass.
“I’m on my way home get dressed so we can go to I Hop and then shopping –K”
I walked back to the house and she was in the front porch in her stripped shorts, combat boots and a black tank.
“Ready love?” I asked.
“Yes! It took you long enough!”
“I know sorry,” We climbed into my Tahoe and we drove to I Hop.
“Where did you go?” Cassy asked as we were seated.
“I went for a walk on the beach.”
“And why did that take you so long?”
“I got a call from my-“There was a loud burst of laughter followed by a string of curses from a table behind us. Cassy made a face.
“Could they be anymore obnoxious?”
“I’m sure they could,” I said turning my head to see a table full of guys, they were all covered in tattoos, but were acting like children shooting straw papers at each other and throwing ice cubes.
Cassy rolled her eyes as another loud burst of laughter came from their table. “Anyways,” she said loudly “What were you saying?” her loud ‘anyways’ got the guys attention as they stopped talking.
“Uncle Paul got me a job at a bar doing stock.” I said feeling eyes boring into my back; Cassy saw how uncomfortable I was. She stood up abruptly. “Cass,” I whispered, “don’t.”
“Do you assholes have a problem?” She asked standing and putting her hands on her hips. She looked kind of ridiculous, granted she had quite a few piercings she still kind of had the face of a twelve year old s bans and her hair was fluffy form being washed and drying naturally.
“It seems you’re the one with the problem.” One of the guys responded.
Cassy’s face turned red so I stood up, and grabbed her arm, “Cassy don’t, and look our food is coming.” I said nodding my head towards our approaching waiter who had a confused look on his face.
Cassy sat down with a huff, and I sat down and smiled at our waited and thanked him. I could hear the men behind us mumbling amongst themselves not being obnoxious anymore.
Cassy was inhaling her pancakes she finished before I could even finish putting ketchup on my omelet and has browns. “Ugh I can’t wait for you to cook for me again,” She said smiling at me. “I want Mac n’ cheese for dinner tonight.”
“I’m not you’re cook.” I said smiling at her, I loved her so much and I was so glad that we were finally together again. After moving to Maryland before my sophomore year and leaving her to deal with all the shit from our tiny ass home town. I felt terrible leaving her there, we had been friends since 3rd grade and I had always protected her but being 3,000 miles away you can’t stop people from starting shit. It became so bad she moved to Billings with her mom.
“Excuse me?” both me and Cass looked up to see a very tall gentlemen with beautiful blue eyes and spiky black hair staring at us, he looked so familiar.
“Can we help you?” Cassy said rudely.
The guy looked taken aback by her rudeness and a bit saddened by it. I looked at Cassy and frowned. “What did you need?” I asked in a friendlier tone.
“Well,” he started, “You just look really familiar, and I was wondering what your name was?”
“Uhm, well my name is Kaylin Horne.” I said a bit confused as to why I would look familiar to someone in California.
“Horne.” He repeated sudden realization came across his face. “Oh.” He said, “You know my cousins in New York.” He said cheerfully.
I must of looked confused because then he stated. “The Sullivan’s, Big Jimmy and Little Jimmy. “ He smiled at me.
“Big Jimmy.” Cassy said nodding like she completely found this normal.
“Uhm yeah I know them but, uhm, what is your name?” I said looking up at this tall stranger, I stared at him examining him until I realized holy shit this was the Rev standing in front of me, why he knew who I was, I didn’t know and I kind of didn’t care.
“Jimmy Sullivan.” We both said at the same time.
“You knew who I was!” He said happily smiling.
“Of course, I used to be obsessed with Avenged Sevenfold.” I said smiling back at him.
“Used to be?” He looked shocked.
“Well I go through fazes and I kind of fazed you guys out.” I said feeling kind of guilty, he was basically my cousin and I wasn’t supporting him.
“Jimmy lets go man.” I heard a man say, I turned around placing the voice to M. Shadows, my heart kind of skipped a beat when I saw him. It was nice to know the obnoxious men were one of my favorite bands.
“Hold up man, I’m talking to family.” He said smiling and putting a hand on my shoulder.
“If you don’t hurry up we are leaving you here Sullivan.” Synyster Gates snapped walking towards the door.
I looked at Cassy and she looked in awe and also a bit annoyed. “Here Jimmy said grabbing my napkin and a pen and writing his number on it, “Call me and we can meet up sometime.” He said smiling and handing it to me.
“Oh, yeah sure,” I said smiling and taking the napkin.
He walked away leaving me and Cassy, “Well that was fucking random.” She said looking at her empty plate.
“Definitely,” I said inhaling my omelet and hash browns, Cassy paid for breakfast, and we headed to Wal Mart.
We went home and unloaded all of the food; I walked around and opened up all the windows and doors. The house had been closed up for about a year before we bought it. The previous owners repainted before we moved in so it smelled like paint. We started unpacking the boxes and moving furniture.
“We need to go and buy some paint; these white walls make me feel like I’m in a hospital.” Cassy said unloading DVDs and putting them on the shelves next to our TV.
“I agree we can go tomorrow or something.” I said putting away silverware.
“So are you going to call James?” Cassy asked as she examined one of the DVD cases.
“Maybe after we’re settled,” I said pulling some pots out of a box and hanging them above the island.
“Did you ever call your Uncles friend?”
“Fuck, shit no.” I said pulling my phone out of my pocket opening the text my Uncle sent me and dialing the number.
I talked with the owner, Johnny, we agreed I would start in two days, figuring it would give me enough time to settle in and get shit sorted.
“Kay I’m hungry.” Cassy complained as she laid across the couch on her laptop.
“I’ll start dinner.” I said walking out of my room.
“Don’t forget I want Mac n’ Cheese, and I want the chunks.” She said happily smiling at me.
I rolled my eyes I don’t know why she liked it that way, maybe t was because it was the way I accidentally made it when we were in the 4th grade, it was my first time and I didn’t mix the milk and powder cheese well enough so there were chunks.
