I stared at the doctor with wide eyes. Twins? We were having two babies?
"Wait...what?" Brooke said leaning up on her elbows to get a better look. "Twins?!"
Doctor Dude (coolest fucking name ever!) looked from Brooke's face to mine and his smile faded. "This isn't good news? Can you not support twins?"
I shook my head. "No. I mean yes, we can afford it. Its just a surprise. I'm happy as hell."
Brooke looked at me and then over to the doctor. "I am too. It was just a surprise."
I smiled down at her and kissed her forehead as she laid back down. We looked over at the screen where we could see our babies. "Look, Brookie," I said. "You have two little blobs inside of you."
She laughed. "Just wait until they're human looking."
I threw my hands up. "Two Jimmy Jrs!" I said and both my wife and the doctor laughed.
After Doctor Dude printed out a few copies of the sonogram for us, Angela gave Brooke some paper towels to wipe that gunk off of her stomach then walked out of the room. The doctor turned the machine off and moved it back into the corner.
When he faced us again, he smiled at Brooke. "I don't mean to seem inappropriate, but that tattoo on your hip? My son has the same thing on his shoulder blades."
Brooke looked at me, smiling. "Yeah, Doc. It's a Deathbat for my favorite band, Avenged Sevenfold."
The doctor nodded. "That's it. He's always talking about them. He knows they live right here in Orange County and he's been to several of their concerts. He's a drummer, you see. And he idolizes their drummer."
I held out my hand for him to shake it. "Well it's always good to know about such a dedicated fan."
Brooke laughed at the confused look on Doctor Dude's face. "Jimmy, here, is Avenged Sevenfold's drummer," she explained.
"Oh!" he said looking at me with wide eyes. "My son is going to be so very jealous of me!"
I looked around the room until I found the roll of paper towels. "Can I borrow your pen?" I asked the doctor. He nodded and handed it to me. "Thanks. What's your son's name?"
"Alex," he said.
I then started to write on the paper towel carefully so I wouldn't rip it. I handed it to the doctor and he read it outloud.
"To, Alex Dude. Awesome name, man. And your dad is one hell of a doctor. Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan." he read and he smiled at me. "Thank you. My son will love this."
I nodded at him. "It's my thanks for being such a great doctor. Plus you have a cool name."
"And he's in a good mood," Brooke added.
I agreed and he thanked me again before we left. On our way home, Brooke complained that she was hungry so we stopped at our favorite burger joint.
We sat down and I ordered the spiciest burger they had. Brooke ordered her burger with extra mustard and extra grilled onions with a side of even more mustard for her fries.
I shook my head at her. "What is it with you and mustard, babe? I don't get it."
"I really like it lately. Don't hate," she said as she took a drink of her water.
When our burgers came, Brooke dug into hers. "Oh my God this is delicious," she said with a piece of onion hanging from her mouth.
I laughed, reached out to grab it, and put it on her plate. "You're such a messy eater."
All throughout lunch, we talked about our babies. "I wasn't expecting twins," I said.
Brooke nodded. "Me neither, but I'm happy about it. They were made from us, Jimmy. I've always thought that having children was a miracle, even though I'm not really religious."
I reached across the table and held her hand. "I feel the same way, Brooke."
When we got back home, Brooke immediately called all of the guys and told them to come over. While we were waiting for them to arrive, I decided to take a shower because I smelled like a dirty old man.
I made my way upstairs and started to get undressed. I was only in my boxers and letting the water get hot when I felt a hand on my back. I turned and saw Brooke standing there in only her bra and panties.
I smiled at her. "And what are you doing, my lovely wife?"
She reached behind her to unhook her bra. "They won't be here for at least an hour. I thought I'd shower with you."
I leaned down to kiss her and she helped me out of my boxers. Once in the shower, we did everything but get clean.
After our dirty shower, we got dressed and headed downstairs just in time to hear the doorbell go off. I opened the door to find Brian and Johnny standing there and I saw Matt's car pull up. I motioned for them to come on in and right after Matt and Val came in, Zach was pulling into my driveway.
Once we were all in the living room, Brooke and I stood in front of everybody who was sitting down except for Brian who was leaning against the wall.
Brooke had the sonogram in her hands and she handed it to Val. "I wanted everyone to see this."
Val looked down at it and Matt looked over her shoulder. "Ok, Brookie," Matt said. "I know this is your baby, but it looks weird."
Val smiled and pointed to it. "This is the baby right here, Matt. But," she looked up at us, "what's this right next to it?"
Brooke and I exchanged a look. "That would be our second baby," I said to them. "Brooke and I are having twins."
Everybody looked up at us with wide eyes and Brian stood up straight. "What?" he asked.
Brooke nodded. "That was our reaction too. Can you believe it? We're having two babies!"
Val stood and pulled Brooke into a hug. "Oh my God! That's amazing!"
The rest of the guys came up to us and congratulated us and gave hugs. "Now we have two babies to spoil!" Johnny said and we all laughed.
Brian came over to me and nudged me with his elbow. "Jim, can I talk to you? In private?"
I nodded and followed him upstairs into my office. Well, it really wasn't an office more of a computer room with a TV and my gaming systems.
"What is it, Bri?" I asked him.
Brian was facing away from me and he was rubbing the back of his neck which I knew to mean he was thinking about something serious. He turned back to me and sighed. "Twins, dude? I mean you and Brooke are still newlyweds. I thought it was early for the pregnancy but twins? I can't keep silent about that."
I stared at him. "You think we planned for this so early? We're excited though. And as my brother, I thought you would be too."
"I am," he said. "I'm just worried. Can you two handle this? We do go on tour quite a bit. Will Brooke be able to handle two babies alone? And remember she has a teaching job, bro. That will take a lot out of her. Two babies could put stress on your marriage."
I narrowed my eyes at him. "And what do you suggest we do? Get an abortion? Because that's not going to happen. We'll make it through this just like we always have. Together. And besides, Brooke and I have all of you to help us and Brooke has Val to help when we're on tour."
Brian sighed and sat in the chair. "Sorry, Jimbo. You're right."
"Then what was that all about?" I asked him.
He shrugged. "I don't really know. But it's over with. Let's go downstairs and celebrate."
I gave him a hug and we went downstairs where we joined everybody who were now talking about baby names.
"No! My babies' names will be Jimmy Jr. one and Jimmy Jr. two." I said.
Brooke wrapped an arm around my waist. "We'll see about that."
Zack laughed. "We all know that Brooke get's her way anyway, Jimbo. You can't win."
I shrugged and kissed my wife. "I know."
Later that night, after they had all gone home, Brooke was laying in my arms in our bed. I kissed the top of her head. "I love you, Brooke."
She squeezed me. "I love you too, Jimmy. We're going to have the best family ever."
I nodded in the dark and moved my hand to rub her tummy. I knew we would and I would do everything in my power to take care of her and my babies. I was going to be the best dad anybody ever had.
