Promise You Paradise

I sat in the uncomfortable plastic chair and watched Hailey sleep. She'd been sleeping for hours, and the doctor said he didn't know when she would wake up. Bailey was in pretty bad condition too, but said Hailey's wounds were slightly worse because she put herself over Bailey when the car hit the driver's side door. She had a bandage on her head and her leg was in a cast, and the doctor basically said that her whole body was a huge bruise and she had several broken ribs.

I sighed and put my head in my hands. I couldn't explain it, and it seemed completely irrational, but I felt very strongly for this shy, fragile little girl. I'm not one to believe in love at first sight, but I don't know how else to explain it.
This one little girl meant more to me than I could explain and I have barely even talked to her, let alone told her how I felt. To be honest, she scares me. Sure, I've had girlfriends, claimed to be in love, but I've never felt like this about someone. When she walks into a room I can't help but stare, and when I heard her play guitar, I about grabbed her and kissed her right then.

And now, she is laying in a hospital bed, and she may never wake up, and I don't know if I could handle that.

I sighed, and got up from the chair and headed towards the cafeteria. When I got there I saw that all the guys, with the exception of Matt, were sitting around a table, looking tired and wore out. I got a cup of coffee and pulled a chair up to the table.

"How's she doing?" Jimmy asked.

"Stable, but still not awake." I said in a low voice.

"Dude, I'm so sorry this happened." He said.

"What do you mean?" I asked looking at him quizzically.

"Don't even try to deny it Zack. We all know you too well. You have it for her, and by the looks of it, bad." He stated. I looked at the rest of the guys and they all either nodded in agreement or just gave me "the look".

"I don't even know why! I barely know her!" I sighed and buried my face in my hands.

"It's alright man, you don't have to explain anything to us. You should go back to her though." Jimmy said patting me on the back. I nodded and got up, and threw my untouched cup of coffee in the trash on the way out of the cafeteria.

I made my way back to her room and was completely shocked at what I found when I got there.

She was awake. Hailey was awake.
