Pictures And Some Memories

“So, please tell me you find someone to go home with!” Jade whined as she came back from the bathroom with Abby.

“I told you; I just came out to have a couple drinks. I’m not going home with anyone!” Daphne told her.

“But you’ve had a ton of guys hitting on you all night! Its like they have radar for single women,” Abby laughed.

“Yeah, usually guys hit on all of us. I haven’t gotten one guy to hit on me!” Jade frowned.

“Um, you’re pregnant,” Sadie reminded her.

“I’m still hot though!” Jade whined.

“Well, you’re pregnant. Every guy in here can see the rock on Abby’s finger. They can see Sadie’s wedding ring and I look like I’d fuck someone up if they come near me,” Roxxi pointed out.

“Point taken,” Jade muttered.

“Okay! Well Daph, since we can’t go home with anybody, you’re going to have to do it for us,” Abby smirked.

“Take one for the team!” Sadie added.

“What they said!” Jade smiled.

“Nope! All the guys in here are douchebags! I will be going to my own home tonight,” Daphne told them.

“Well aren’t you just a ball of sunshine,” Jade muttered as she took a sip of her soda.

“I feel like dancing,” Abby announced.

“It looks like you’re working,” Jade told her.

“I came here straight from work so bite me!” Abby spat.

“Calm down toots. Lets dance,” Jade smiled.

“You guys coming?” Sadie asked.

“Nah I need another drink,” Daphne told her.

“I don’t dance,” Roxxi smiled.

“Fine!” Sadie laughed as she followed Jade and Abby.

“Can’t we just ditch them and leave?” Daphne asked as she ordered a gin and tonic.

“Well that wouldn’t be nice,” Roxxi laughed.

“Am I a nice person?” Daphne laughed.

“So, there’s really no guys you like here?”

“Not at all. They’re all rude and a bit repulsive.”

“Well I see a cute one eyeing you up,” Roxxi told her as she looked past her.

Daphne turned her head and noticed him glancing at her from across the bar.

“He’s not bad,” she agreed as she turned back around.

“He’s adorable! Call him over,” Roxxi urged.

“No! He’s probably a punk,” Daphne muttered as she finished her drink.

“He could be a great fuck though! Call him over!”

“No!”

“Fine,” Roxxi smirked.

She stood up and whistled to get his attention. She nodded him over and sat back down.

“What the hell is wrong with you?” Daphne hissed.

“Thank me later, he’s coming over!” Roxxi muttered as she turned Daphne around.

“I hate you,” Daphne muttered.

“Hi,” she smiled when he approached her.

“Hello,” he muttered.

He had reddish brown, chopped hair. His eyes were green and he was wearing a pair of jeans, a black shirt and a blazer. He was rather thin but Daphne could tell he had a bit of muscle tone under his shirt.

“Can I buy you a drink?” he asked.

“Sure, a gin and tonic,” she smiled.

“I’m Roxxi by the way,” Roxxi smiled as she held out her hand.

“Hi,” he smiled as he shook her hand.

“I’m Daphne,” Daphne smiled.

“I know,” he smirked.

“Excuse me?” she asked as she furrowed her eyebrows.

“Daphne Sanders right?” he asked.

“Yeah…” she muttered.

“You really don’t remember me?” he laughed.

“Can’t say that I do,” she laughed.

“Kyle Williams. We had at least one class together every year during high school. I sat next to you in English 12 and we were lab partners in Biology,” he told her.

“Oh my God!” she smiled when she finally remembered him.

“Finally remember me?” he laughed.

“Yes! How are you?” she smiled as she hugged him.

“I’m doing good. How about you?” he asked.

“I’m alright. You look so different!” he commented.

“You mean I’m not a total nerd anymore?” he laughed.

“I wasn’t going to say all that,” she muttered.

“Well its true,” he shrugged.

“So what do you do now?” she asked.

“I’m a lawyer. I’m here with some guys from the office.”

“That’s impressive.”

“So I heard you moved to New York after graduation,” he told her.

“I went there for college. I lived there for about seven years but then I came home. I work in a salon in the city,” she replied.

“Well who is this?” Jade asked as she approached them.

“Um, this is Kyle. We went to school together,” Daphne told her.

“Hey handsome. I’m Jade, her sister-in-law,” Jade smiled.

“Hi,” Kyle smiled.

“Oh, this is Sadie and Abby,” Daphne introduced.

Kyle nodded at them before turning back to her.

“So, are you married?” he asked.

“No, I was engaged for a while but things didn’t work out. So, me and my daughter moved here,” she shrugged.

“You have kids?” he asked.

“Just one daughter. She’s four,” she smiled.

“I have a son the same age,” he smiled.

“Are you married?” she asked.

“Divorced for about six months now,” he shrugged.

“Oh I’m sorry.”

“Its not your fault.”

“I can’t believe we ran into each other here. I actually didn’t even want to come out tonight,” she laughed.

“Well I’m kind of glad you did,” he smiled.

***

For the next hour, Daphne and Kyle continued reacquainting themselves.

“Daph, we’re getting ready to go,” Jade told her.

“Alright,” Daphne muttered.

“Is it really inappropriate of me to ask you to come back to my place? I just want to keep catching up,” Kyle told her.

“You know, in any other case it would be inappropriate. But I do want to keep catching up,” she smiled.

“Hey, I’m going to Kyle’s place for a while. Are you two okay riding with Abby and Sadie?” she asked Jade and Roxxi.

“Of course,” Roxxi smirked.

“But I thought you weren’t going home with anyone,” Jade smirked.

“Oh bite me,” Daphne laughed as she hugged them.

After hugging Sadie and Abby, she followed Kyle outside.

“I’ll follow you there,” she told him as she got in her car.

After following him to his apartment, Daphne touched up her make-up before meeting Kyle at his car.

“Lets get inside, its chilly out,” she laughed.

“I agree,” he laughed as he led the way inside.

“This is nice,” she complimented after they made their way into his apartment.

“Its small, but its all I need,” he shrugged.

“Can I get you a drink?” he asked as he hung his blazer up.

“A glass of wine would be nice,” she smiled.

“Coming right up,” he called as he walked into the kitchen.

As he got her drink, Daphne took it upon herself to look around the apartment.

“Is this your son?” she asked as she picked up a picture.

“Yeah, his name is Lucas,” he called from the kitchen.

“Lucas? What school does he go to?” she asked.

“Orange County Elementary. Why?”

“I think our kids are best friends.”

“Why do you say that?” Kyle asked as he approached her with two glasses of red wine.

“Misty is always talking about her best friend Lucas,” she smiled.

“Misty’s your daughter?” he asked.

“Yup, this is her,” she muttered as she pulled a picture up on her phone.

“Wow she looks just like you,” he commented.

“Who would’ve thought that our kids would be best friends?” Daphne laughed as she made her way over to the couch.

“I know. Lucas always tells me about Misty when he comes over,” he laughed.

“He doesn’t live here?” she asked as she sat down and kicked off her heels.

She tucked her legs underneath of her and faced him.

“No, he stays here on the weekends,” he muttered.

“That must be awful. I couldn’t imagine only seeing Misty on the weekend,” she frowned.

“Well I do pick him up from school. Its hard, but it just makes our time together better,” he shrugged.

“We should get them together sometime for a play date,” she suggested as she sipped her wine.

“That’s a really good idea,” he smiled.

“So, why did you and your wife divorce? If you don’t mind me asking.”

“She didn’t like me working such long hours. I finally realized she was right when it was already too late.”

“I’m sorry to hear that. Is there any chance you two could get back together?”

“Nah, she’s already met someone else,” he shrugged.

“What about you?” she asked.

“I’ve only met people who…temporarily keep me distracted from her.”

“Sounds fun,” she laughed.

“It’s a blast. So what about you? Have you been seeing someone else since your ex?”

“There is this one guy. But he’s married,” she muttered, the words spilling from her mouth.

“Oh my God I have said way too much!” she announced after realizing what she told him.

“No way, you have got to explain this after admitting something like that,” he laughed.

“Like hell I do!”

“Oh come on. I won’t judge you, we’re friends here,” he urged.

“Fine!” she muttered, exasperated.

So, Daphne spent the next ten minutes explaining her situation with Brian.

“Wow,” Kyle muttered once she finished explaining.

“I know, I am such a slut,” she whined as she covered her face with her hands.

“No, you’re not. You obviously had feelings for him and he has feelings for you. He came onto you multiple times so he’s doing the wrong thing, not you,” he reassured.

“I feel so crappy though. I should’ve never slept with him,” she muttered.

“Shit happens,” he shrugged.

“You’re so cool about everything,” she laughed as she leaned her head back on the couch.

“Ya know this Brian guy doesn’t seem to realize that he had a great thing with you,” Kyle muttered.

“What?” Daphne asked as she picked her head up.

“I mean, he’s missing out on a great woman. Yes, you did what you thought was right and you asked him to stay with his wife. But if I were him, I would’ve filed for a divorce by now,” he muttered as he took a drink of his wine.

“Why’s that?” she asked.

“Hell, any guy would if they got a chance to be with a girl like you. You’re gorgeous, smart and passionate.”

“You are like the sweetest guy I ever met!” she gushed as she hugged him.

For the next few minutes, they sat in a comfortable silence. Daphne had her head on his shoulder as they sat there in the dim light.

“You know I had the biggest crush on you in high school,” he told her, breaking the silence.

“Did you?” she asked as she picked her head up off his shoulder.

“I did,” he nodded.

“Why didn’t you ever tell me back then?” she asked.

“Lets be real Daph, you were a cheerleader and you were one of the most popular girls in school. I was a yearbook nerd and a social outcast,” he laughed.

“You still could’ve told me though.”

“There would be no point. Nothing would’ve ever happened between us. We were like two different species back then.”

“You were not that bad!”

“Don’t even lie,” he laughed.

“Oh shut up,” she laughed.

“You know I did mean what I said earlier. Brian really doesn’t know what he’s missing out on. Any man would be lucky to have you,” he told her.

“You’re sweet,” she smiled as she kissed his cheek.

Kyle placed a hand on her cheek before she could pull away. Daphne peered up at him and noticed him leaning in to kiss her. Surprisingly, she didn’t stop him. She let his lips find hers and she was soon kissing him back. He took her face in his hands and added more force to the kiss. Daphne boldly slipped her tongue in his mouth and gracefully moved to straddle his waist. She tightly grasped his shirt collar while his hand splayed across her back and held her tighter to him. His other hand tangled in her hair. As he began pushing the straps to her dress down, Daphne finally realized what was happening.

“Oh my God,” she muttered as she pushed herself away from him.

“What?” he asked.

“This feels too wrong. I shouldn’t be doing this,” she ranted as she climbed off of him.

“Is it about Brian?” he asked.

“Yes, I’m sorry. I still love him and I feel wrong for doing this,” she muttered, on the verge of tears.

She slipped her shoes off and grabbed her clutch.

“I’m sorry, I have to go,” she muttered as she walked to the door.

“Daph wait!” Kyle called as he grabbed her hand.

“I should really go. I’m sorry.”

“Just wait. Can you please just stay for the night? I could care less if anything else happens tonight; I just want to spend the rest of the night with you. I didn’t bring you back here to have sex with you. I brought you back here so I could get to know you again. When I saw you tonight, I was immediately drawn to you. Its like my feelings for you never went away. I know you still love Brian, but he doesn’t deserve you. Hell, I don’t either. All I want is to spend time with you Daph,” he told her.

Taken back by his kind words, Daphne decided in that moment that Brian would have to wait.

“Fuck it,” she muttered as she threw her clutch down.

She clutched his shirt and leaned up to kiss him again. Kyle immediately grasped her hips and gently pushed her back against the door. She tangled her hands in his hair and completely wiped Brian from her mind.

“I want to make love to you,” Kyle whispered as they pulled away.

“Just fuck me,” Daphne muttered as she crashed her lips back to his.
