Chapter 22
Erin’s P.O.V
The surgery had begun.. and I was sweating but I kept my hands steady as I prepared Liv for Jimmy’s kidney. I had Zacky by my side as Jason and Mattie operated on Jimmy.
“Hold this for me” I said to Zack having him hold a clamp and I spread the cut are open and Zacky seemed uneasy.
“Take a breath ZV” I said and explored around her kidneys making sure that the damage wasn’t too much. Zack helped me get my glasses that held the microscope on as I inserted camera and I looked around pointing at the screen.
“Alright well this one is punctured badly… I am surprised we got that one to stop bleeding and it looks like it isn’t bad around the outside and on the connecting tissue” I said to Zack and he took a second peek at it and had me stop on an inflamed muscle.
“Good eye” I said and took a syringe with a muscle relaxant safe for the baby and took some fluid out.
“Can you dab right there and make sure that I can see the lining of the muscle” I said and I looked back and the Berry’s were nearing the end of getting the kidney out. I inspected the area that carried the baby not being intrusive of the area and everything checked out and I grabbed a sonograms of the uterus lining holding the child. Johnny would have something at least if anything were to go wrong.
“Are we good to go?” I asked Mattie and Jason and one of them brought it over as I started removing both of Livs kidneys. The process was long and tedious and I had hoped that the guys were taking everything okay downstairs.
Matt’s P.O.V
Johnny was a nervous mess as well all sat in the living room waiting… I knew that we shouldn’t just be sitting here seeing as how there was still hours to go… I was worried for Liv and Jimmy but Erin had a lot of weight on her shoulders in there.
“I just want them to be okay” Johnny said hoping for the best and shedding tears.
“I promise that Erin will try her best Johnny” I said and he shot u and started pacing around the room and right before he tried to shove his fist into the wall Matt Berry came out with information and everyone shot up.
“Erin has started the process of replacing one of the kidney’s, right now the baby looks fine and they are both doing pretty good, Erin knew that you all would want to know so I came out to give the update” He said and Johnny sat there with his hand on his chest.
“But Liv and Jimmy are both okay right?” Johnny asked and we all just stood there realizing he only heard the baby was okay the first time around. I put my hand on his shoulder.
“Yes dude she is fine.. Jimmy is fine.. they were just updating us” I said to him and he sat down as I nodded and Matt Berry walked back up to the room. And now… we wait once again.
Erin’s P.O.V
This was the longest thing I think I have ever done.. and luckily at the moment Jimmy was doing fine and he was sleeping and the Berry’s were running tests, I was working my way around Liv and somewhere along the way she twitched a little and now later she started shaking like crazy and she started throwing up.
“ZACK GET A TUBE AND GET IT DONW HER THROAT NOW!!” I screamed at him and the guys ran over and stepped outside knowing that Johnny would try and come barging through since I yelled. Zack finally made it down and he sucked the vomit out and I pushed on her stomach to ease the nausea but soon after her pulse stopped.
“NO NO NO!” I yelled and Zack started pushing oxygen in and I grabbed my hands inside of her knowing that the fastest way was to massage her heart to get it in rhythm again.
“E come on! If she is out any longer we risk the baby!” Zack yelled like it was really gonna fucking help what I was doing. I grabbed a couple of shock pads and attached them sending little jolts through me but I didn’t care because I needed her to breath.
“DAMMIT LIV COME ON!” I yelled trying not to let tears come and impair my vision.
“More oxygen!” I said sending another jolt and massaging the heart again and I grabbed the sonogram machine checking the flicker which was still going inside of her and she gasped as her heart went back into rhythm and I grabbed cool cloth handing it to Zack.
“Pulse is strong, blood pressure lowering, we are back with her, get Jason and tell him I need him to get me another 3 CC’s of Lortab to keep her body calm. I sat continuing on with making sure the kidney was working properly. I leaned in stitching up the internal incisions and Zacky patted them so that I could check them and I took the spreader out carefully without damaging the skin and carefully left the tubes in so that we could put in the medicine.
“Alright tell Johnny to meet me in the room so he can see her and tell him to be very VERY careful of her and… the baby” I said and he smiled and walked out while Jason and Mattie were helping me seal up everything and get her hooked up to the portable monitors. After 15 minutes we made it up to the room where I was met by Johnny who was stroking Livs hair.
“Thank you thank you thank you E!” He hugged me.
“Just you for now, in an hour I will be back to check on her and giving her pain medication and she should be awake. After she dozes off again if she is calm enough I will remove the tube so she can breathe on her own. I am gonna be honest… after the kidney was in place… I thought we had lost her but I couldn’t give up… and in 7 ½ months you can welcome your child into the world” I said and walked downstairs to the guys who were relieved to hear that Jimmy was doing well. I hugged Matt tightly.
“I knew you could do it E… now I just hope you will have me” He said basically asking to be mine.
“Seize the Day” I said and he kissed me rubbing my hair back up into my ponytail. I failed to mention that I was giving myself jolts from saving Liv though... and something didn't feel right.
