Indestructabe Part 2: Realizing What I've Done
Court Date
The past few days, Meg has kept me up every 3 hours. Today was the day I go to court and testify against Chase. I hope my testimony puts him away for a very long time. I got up to the sound of Meg crying. I pulled myself out of bed and walked over to her crib. I picked her up and she instantly stopped crying. I picked up my phone and sent Andy a text.
~Andy, I'm fixing to get Meg's things together and bring her over.~
~Alright. I'm at home. I have a few days off so I'll watch her anytime you need a break.~ Andy
~Thanks Andy. See you in a few.~
~Okay.~ Andy
I put Meg in her swing and went to take a quick shower. The hot water felt soothing against my skin even though I was hurrying to finish. I stepped out of the shower and changed. I walked out of the bathroom and Meg was fast asleep. I packed up her things and gently picked her up and walked out of my apartment and down to my car. I strapped Meg into her car seat and made our way over to Andy's. When I arrived, she was sitting on the porch with a smile. I cut the engine and got Meg out of the car. Andy came to the car grabbing the bag and Meg.
"I don't want you to be late." She said and I got back into the car and drove to the courthouse. I got there in record time and went inside. I seen Chase's parents and they looked at me evilly as I sat down next to the lawyer Andy suggested. The trial began in minutes. Each lawyer said some stuff and then put me on the stand. My testimony must have been a good one because in no time I was back over with my lawyer. The jury went to deliberate and were back in under 5 minutes.
"Has the jury reached a verdict?" the judge said.
"We have your honor."
"How do you find the defendant?" he said.
"We find the defendant Chase Read, Guilty on the 3 counts of attempted murder and 1 count of endangerment of a minor."
"I hereby sentence Chase Read to 25 years in the State Penitentiary with no chance of parole." he said slamming down the gavel. Armed police officers escorted him out of the courtroom. I was free from him. He could no longer beat me when he was drunk. My child and I are safe.
I left the courthouse smiling proudly. I got into my car and drove to Andy's to tell her the good news. I parked the car outside Andy's house and quickly got out of my car, running to her doorstep. I knocked and she let me in.
"Andy! He's been sentenced to go to the State Pen for 25 years with no possibility of parole!" I said smiling. She hugged me tightly and congratulated me. I was so happy! Now I can go back to work and actually make enough to go back to California.
