Chapter Thirteen
I woke up with the lack of warmth on top of me, I opened my eyes and Brayden wasn’t there. I sat up and the baby monitor was still on the coffee table. I got up and went to the bathroom and heard soft noises through the baby monitor, maybe she was up there. I walked upstairs and looked in the room, it was empty besides the sleeping baby. I closed the door and decided to take a shower, my shower was short, then I changed Payson’s diaper and fed her.
“Brayden?” I called out
No answer.
I called Matt.
“What’s up man?” Matt asked
“Is Bray over there with you?” I asked
“Nope.” He said
“Okay. I can’t find her.” I said
“What do you mean?” He asked
“We fell asleep on the couch together and when I woke up she was gone, I looked around the house and called her name. she’s not….” I said cutting off because I saw that the front door was cracked open.
“Jimmy she’s not what?” Matt asked
“She’s not here and the front door is cracked open.” I said
“Is her car there?” He asked
I looked.
“Yes her cars here, her shoes are here, her phone is here.” I said
“Do you think?” Matt asked
“That’s not an option.” I said
“I’ll get the guys and we’ll be on our way.” Matt said
“Kay.” I said
I hung up.
Matt was right, my wife is missing and it could be her father and that scared me.
“Jimmy.” I heard
It was Brayden’s voice.
“Baby?” I asked
“Jimmy where are you?” She asked
“I’m in the living room where are you?” I asked
“I don’t know. Jimmy I’m scared. How am I talking to you?” She asked
“Baby monitor.” I said “Just breathe baby we’re going to find you.” I said
“Hey who the fuck are you talking to!” I heard someone yell
“Dad?” Brayden asked
“Ohh the baby monitor aye?” He asked
“Give her back!” I yelled
“Oh Jimmy you don’t understand me do you?” He asked
“You’re her father what the fuck is wrong with you?” I asked
“Lea come.” He said
“Hello.” I heard her nasty voice enter
“Look what I brought.” Hank sai
d I wish I could see them.
“Oh the fucking skank. Hello darling.” Lea said
I heard a loud slap and Brayden yell out.
“Leave her alone!” I yelled
Matt and the guys came in and I put my finger to my lips and held the monitor up. Another slap rang through and the boys looked at me.
“Jimmy you get to hear every slap, every punch, every single fucking moan of pain.” Hank said
“Give. Her. Back.” I growled
Tears formed in my eyes as I had to listen to the hurting her.
“Jimmy put it down.” Matt said a few minutes later.
I looked at him and tired not to cry. He took the monitor away from me and pulled me into a hug.
“I… I’m never going to get her back.” I cried
He pulled me off of my shoulder and looked me in the eye.
“James Owen Sullivan don’t talk like that. We’ll find her I swear.” He said
I nodded and they sat with me and tired to distract me. eventually they all left to go home.
“I’m telling the girls.” Matt said
I nodded and laid on the couch. I cried.
“Jimmy baby I can hear you crying now stop it.” Her voice said
“Brayden I can’t. I have to listen to them hurt you.” I said
“No you don’t. Turn off your monitor.” She said
“Why the fuck would I do that?” I asked
“Do it for me. turn it on to tell me you love me every so often just so I can hear your voice.” She said
“I can’t.” I said
“James please do it. I don’t want you to hear all of this.” She said
“I’ll tell you I love to every time I can.” I said
“I love you baby, please find me.” She cried
“I will. I love you too.” I said
“Turn it off.” She said
I did as I was told and turned it off. I tended to Payson and put her to bed.
It’s been about three and a half weeks since her father took her away, I know that doesn’t sound like a lot… But it’s a fucking lot. We canceled a tour because there was no way I was going anywhere without her being with me and safe. I needed her back, but I just knew that if we found her she was going to be in bad shape, horrible shape. No doubt she’ll be put into the hospital. I told her that I loved her every night and at least twice a day, by a week in she could barely talk. I flipped it on.
“Baby don’t answer because I know you can’t but I love you and we’re trying.” I said
I flipped it back off after I heard a door open. My phone started going off.
“Yeah Matt?” I asked
“We have a small show today at Johnny’s come on.” He said
“Let me grab Payson.” I said
“Okay.” He said
He hung up and I grabbed my daughter and drove to Johnny’s bar meeting up with all of them.
“Here I’ll take her and give her to you after the show. They’ve banned alcohol tonight because we’ve got the babies.” She said
I nodded and handed her my daughter.
“How’s yours?” Johnny asked
Oh yeah, Val’s pregnant.
“A little Lima Bean.” She said
Matt smiled but I couldn’t.
“Let’s go play.” Matt said
I nodded and the guys and I went into the bar and onto the stage, the crowd riled up but weren’t too loud being aware of babies, our babies.
“Hey guys thanks for coming out to this concert and your extreme tolerance of us having the babies in the bar.” Matt said
Some girl raised her hand.
“Yes?” Matt asked confused
“Any word on Brayden?” She asked
Matt looked at me and I shook my head, the girls head dropped. We played a few songs and that’s all I could handle at the moment. Val handed me Payson
“She’s changed and fed.” She said
“Thank you.” I sighed
“Hey Hun. We’ll find her.” She said
“I hope soon or it could be too late.” I said
She nodded and hugged me. I walked and sat down at the bar and bounced Payson on my lap, she was almost seven months old.
“I’m sorry.” I heard a small voice.
I looked over and it was the girl who raised her hand
“It’s not your fault.” I said
“I know but I’m still sorry. I really hope she gets found soon. All of your fans really love her.” She said
“Thank you.” I said
The girl hugged my side and petted Payson hair.
“I’m going to head home. It’s getting late.” I told Zacky
“I’ll tell then guys.” He said
I nodded and walked out to my car. I dove home and was pulling into the driveway when there was a lump of black in the driveway. I got out keeping the car running and ran to it, it was a body bag. What the fuck. I unzipped it and Brayden was laying there. I felt her pulse and it was still there, I picked her up thankfully it was dark I don’t think I want to see how she looks. There was a note on her chest, I carried her to the car and got in.
Dear James, Here’s my useless daughter back, I got what I wanted and I doubt she’s to survive. From: you know who.
Is what the note said. I sped off to the hospital calling her doctor.
“James any word?” She asked
“I’m on my way to you with her. have a room please.” I pleaded
“I’m on it. bring her into the E.R.” She said
“Wait I have Payson!” I cried
“Fuck. I’ll meet you out there and grab Payson.” She said
I hung up and pulled into the hospital parking lot.
Her doctor was there and she grabbed Payson and I carried brayden into the E.R and laid her in a bed.
“Here! Waiting room now!” Her doctor said
I nodded and got a small look at Brayden. She was unrecognizable, her face was beat and purple. I walked out into the waiting room and called Matt.
“Sup dude.” He said
“Come to the hospital. E.R waiting room, she was in the driveway.” I said
“On our way Jim.” He said
They all showed up and I broke off and went into the E.R and sat in her little room.
“Jimmy you can’t be back here.” Her doctor said
“I don’t care.” I said She sighed and then the noise that I never wanted to hear sprang into my ears.
“Get out! She’s flat lining!” Her doctor yelled.
I sprang up and hurried out, she closed me out and I heard the shocky machine start up. I went out into the waiting room.
“Any word?” Val asked
“She flat lined. They’re trying to revive her.” I said crying
Everyone’s head fell to the floor and Madison got up and hugged me bawling her eyes out.
“Jimmy she’s strong. She’ll pull through.” She said
I hugged her tightly.
“Mr. Sullivan.” I heard
I turned and her doctor was standing there.
"Yes?” I asked
“We revived her; she’s in a coma and on life support. We have no estimate on when she’ll wake up. I’m sorry.” She said I nodded
“I’ll come out and tell you when you guys can see her.” She said
I nodded again and sunk down in the waiting room chair.
“Brayden?” I called out
No answer.
I called Matt.
“What’s up man?” Matt asked
“Is Bray over there with you?” I asked
“Nope.” He said
“Okay. I can’t find her.” I said
“What do you mean?” He asked
