Twenty five: Inhale to the top of my lungs, I've been dying for this.
I don’t know why we called them band meetings because it always turned into one huge get together between the lot of us really. Although this time Gena wasn’t there like she normally was and the guys were noticing her absence.
“Where’s Gena” Val asked.
“Gena?” Zacky repeated
“Yeah where is she?”
“Oh we uh… broke up”
“What?! When?” All eyes were suddenly on him and he looked very uncomfortable.
“About two weeks ago”
“And neither of you told us?”
“I didn’t think that it was important”
“I do wonder what goes on inside your head sometimes” She said shaking her head, see this was why I didn’t want them to know about me and Zacky yet, because I knew that they’d probably hate me and tell me that I took Zacky away from Gena and I was the reason that they broke up, I wanted to wait some time before we told them about us.
“I know she was your girlfriend and all Zack, but it was kind of obvious you two were ending soon anyways” Michelle said from the corner where she was in Brian’s lap, I still felt that familiar twinge in my chest when I saw them together, but it was different than how it to be, now it was more that I was jealous of the fact they could be open about their relationship, okay so I know that it was my choice not to tell anyone, I think I was more jealous of the fact that people didn’t judge them about their relationship, they would judge me if they knew. “I mean, it was obvious that you guys just weren’t happy together anymore” She said
“Thanks Chelle’” He said frowning.
“You know she didn’t mean it like that Zacky” Johnny said “It was just well… she was kind of a cling on, and you just haven’t been the same around her the past few months”
“Okay what is this tell me that I made a shitty choice when I picked my girlfriend hour?” He snapped at them. I winced; it always frightened me when any of them got angry. “You guys are unreal” He fumed, getting up out of his chair and storming out of the room, instantly they looked to me.
“What?” I squirmed in my seat.
“Alright Riley what actually happened between them?” Michelle addressed me.
“They broke up, just like he said”
“No what really happened, c’mon you know all his business, surely if you didn’t see he told you”
“Not really, he just came home one afternoon a couple weeks ago, it was when we were in the middle of an argument about something stupid and he told me she dumped him, I don’t know any more than that”
“Well there’s gotta be more to it that that, she loved him”
“He loved her too”
“I think he did at one point” Val said “But recently he was just never ‘here’” She motioned to the air with her hands “And you could see it in his eyes when he looked at her, compared to how he used to look at her, sort of how he looks at you” Suddenly they all rounded on me.
“W-What?”
“Riley is there something you’re not telling us?” Val asked.
“No” I said in a small voice
“Dude even I noticed it” Matt said looking up from his phone “He looks at you now the way he used to look at Gena when they first met”
“Brian?” I turned to him helplessly, he was Zacky’s best friend, I was kind of hoping he’d
have something to help me out with here.
“Has he said anything to you Bri?” Michelle asked him.
“Not really… no”
“Brian” She stared at him.
“Well he… he did say that he liked someone else, but he didn’t tell me who” I could tell he
was lying, he looked like he was about to be shot.
“We should go talk to him” She said
“Riley should go, he only ever listens to her when he’s pissed off”
“Jesus what is this?” I asked “Gang up on Riley day now?”
“Defensive” Val sang
“Shut up Valerie” I said as I left the room
“Don’t tell my girlfriend to shut up!” Matt yelled after me
“Fine, Shut up Matthew!” I heard their giggles.
I walked out of the studio and found Zacky sitting on the bench not far from the front doors,
his face in his hands. I went and sat down next to him.
“You okay Zacky”
“Riley why can’t we just tell them?”
“Because they’ll judge me”
“No they won’t, it’s obvious to them all the I’m crazy about you”
“Yeah but I don’t want them to know just yet, just give me a few weeks to work up the balls to tell them” I said
“Please make it soon I’m losing my mind over here baby” He said, I got a warm bubbly feeling in my stomach when he said that.
“I know, I’m sorry” I wrapped an arm around his waist and he draped his over my shoulders.
“Why don’t we go home” I looked up at him.
“Yeah I suppose we could” He still sounded down. I shifted closer to him so that my lips
were next to his ear.
“I’ll do that thing you like” I murmured in his ear. He was went rigid before jumping up and pulling me with him, straight to his car, I think he must’ve broken every speed limit on the way home.
