Free Falling

Prolouge

"I'm headed to work," I yelled up the stairs at my sister, who was most likely in her room reading another book she rented from the library. I didn't wait for a reply and headed for the front door of my parents house. I was lucky they had let me move back in after I had turned my back on them to live with "the love of my life", as I had thought almost two years ago. I turned my lip up in a snarl, closing the door behind me and walked down the stone porch and turned to my left, making my way towards the pool and a very conveinent short cut which would take me all the way across town to where I worked.

Sighing, I regrettably thought back to the night where my ex-fiance had attempted to kick me out. He had just gotten home from work at Kmart, and came into the living room where I was sitting on the couch staring off into space. I had put our daughter down for the night already and I was just waiting for him to come home. I needed to talk to him about something, but I couldn't remember exactly what it was. Somehow we started talking about one of my school friends, Travis.

All of the sudden, my ex-fiance, Nathaniel, accuses me of being unfaithful. It took me a while to figure out how the heck I was supposed to be cheating on him when my friend, Travis, who worked 12 hour shifts at a cheese factory that was an hour away. On top of all those facts the kid didn't even have a drivers license...he still doesn't and he's turning 21 this week. I laughed a little as I walked past a small park that was only a few blocks from my parents house. There were a few kids swinging the the swings, as their parents watched from the benches under the few shade trees that the park had. I nodded towards them, telling them "Hello," and continued walking.

My thoughts wandered back towards that fateful night, when I had realized what my mistakes were and that I had been living a regretful life for almost two years. "You love him!" Nathaniel yelled at me, making me stand off the couch, enraged.

"What do you mean 'I love him'? We have a child together! Besides I don't see how I could cheat on you! You don't even let me talk to my friends, let alone see them!"

After I said this he started ranting about how I needed to call my parents to come pick me up because what I was saying was total bull shit. I glanced at the only clock that was in the house, which just happened to be the VCR. It was after 11 o' clock at night.

"My parents are already in bed, they won't answer the phone," I snarreled at him.

"Well, then I guess you'll be sitting outside and wait for them with your stuff." Nathaniel growled back.

This is where I got extremely enraged and nearly lost it. "It's the middle of September in the middle of the night! You're daughter is barely two months, and you want her to sit out in thecold?"

"That was your own choice," He crossed his arms, looking at me with hatred.

"Know what?" I asked, feigning tiredness. "I'm too tired for this and I'm ready to pass out, I'm going to sleep,"

I walked towards our bedroom, making him grab my arm. "Where do you think you're going?" he snarreled.

"To bed," I wrenched my arm from his grip, and walked to the bedroom and lay down in the bed, being careful because I still hurt from the c-section, i had had when giving brith, because my daughter, Hazel, wouldn't turn from her breach position.

Nathaniel stayed in the living room for about half an hour then walked into the bedroom. I was nearly half asleep before he gently shook my arm. "Can I sleep with you?" he asked in a pathetic whinny voice.

"Go for it," I muttered, while going back to sleep.

I glanced up from my daydreaming to see I was at a chainlink fence. I walked around it then followed a shallow dirt path which crossed rail road tracks. I looked both ways before crossing them, then ran up the small hill to the otherside of the shortcut. I was always so thankful for this shortcut, because it meant I could be across town within minutes.

Once I got to the otherside, I turned to my right and started walking the rest of the way to work, which was about fifteen more blocks. My mind wandered back to the day after Nathaniel and my fight about me cheating on him, which I didn't because it just wasn't physically possible.

The next day he insisted he wanted me to stay and that he was sorry. This decision only came after I had started packing my things after taking care of my sweet baby girl, Hazel. Unfortunately for some reason he had changed his mind and I started packing again. While I was packing he called his mom, who only lived a few blocks away from us. He hung up on her before she answered, making her call my cell phone while we were in the middle of another fight.

She ended up coming over to my annoyance. It's not that I had anything against her but it seemed like she came over every day, and when she did she would bring us things that we didn't want. Granted baby clothes were always welcomed but I didn't much care for clothes that came from a free clothes closet or clothes that a 10 year old would wear, I had a 2 month old baby for Pete's sake! Eventually she made it over to the house and was let in. I then instantly became the bad guy because I was leaving her son. Oh how I despised that entire family just then.

Finally, I had gotten fed up with her bickering and I yelled at her all the things her son had done to me, which included him saying that Hazel wouldn't be getting her 2 month shots that day and that it was my fault that she would get sick because of that. That's when his mother went on my side and told him he was going to help me get Hazel's shots. After awhile, we both were on better terms and we went to get my little bundle of joy her shots.

Once Hazel's shots were done, Nathaniel wanted to go to a grocery store because everything was 50% off because they had been bought by another store. That's where my friend texted me, and brought the fight back into existance. Apparently, because I had talked to my friend I didn't love Nathaniel and I needed to get out of the house. So, instead of going into the store, we went back to the house, where I called my mom who was excited that I'd be coming home, but also concerned for me, because she thought Nathaniel was going to get violent with me. I assured her I was going to be fine and told her Nathaniel was insisting he take me home.

Coming out of my day dream once again I noticed I was at work. Sighing I opened the door and walked up a flight of stairs, then swiped my card so I could get into the main part of the building. Glancing to my right I saw the time clock stating that I had 20 minutes before I started. Damn, I walk fast; I thought to myself as I steered myself into the break room to sit down for a bit. I pulled out a DS that my boyfriend was lending me and started playing Pokemon Black. Granted I don't much care for Pokemon Black, mainly because the Pokemon were so stupidly named and dumb looking, the other games were much better, although I dolike the graphics in the game...it reminded me of a movie.

After 17 minutes had gone by I swiped in, and went to my desk to log into the computer so I could start taking peoples calls. Oh yeah, I work in a call center. Funnest place on the Earth...not. Thankfully we weren't very busy and I was let off early, I then walked home where everything that wasn't currently fucked up in my life was going to change in the blink of an eye.
