Never Too Late
2). Trouble Rising
Zacky
I sighed tossing the bags over into the corner near the nightstand on the left side of the bed. Running my right hand over my face I plopped onto the bed and laid back. I felt Ichabod get onto the bed and cuddled into my side. I chuckled and rubbed the top of his head and smiled.
It felt good to be home. I hated being away from my little girl, even though I knew she was in good hands. Closing my eyes I felt myself dozing off, but I was brought out of it when my phone started going off. Groaning I rolled over onto my side and grabbed my phone, “Hello?” I questioned.
“It’s about time you got home, our daughter needs you.” Gena huffed from the other end of the phone.
“Yeah, and she needs her mother too,” I clear my throat sitting up. “But she is too busy being on some fucking retarded cruise with her new boy-toy.” I hissed through clenched teeth.
“Oh please,” Gena faked cough. “I need to go, I am getting sick.” She clicked the phone on her end ending the call.
I rolled my eyes ending the call and tossing the phone beside of me, “Bitch.” I muttered underneath my breath.
I heard a tiny knock on the door and looked over to see Zoe in the doorway looking at me. I smiled at my little girl as I got up and she shook her head, “I just wanted to say bye and I love you.” She smiled.
I chuckled getting up and going over to her. I wrapped my arms around her holding her close to me. I kissed the top of her head and looked at her, “I love you pumpkin.” I smile at her.
“Love you too, daddy.” She smiles pecking my cheek the best she could.
She walked away as I pushed up the door and walked over to the bed. I grabbed my luggage bags and unpacked them tossing all my dirty clothes into the hamper. I put the bags back into the closet. I grab a white button up shirt and a pair of blue-denim jeans. I kick my sneakers off and walk into my jointed bathroom and sigh heavily. The memories rush through my mind from Gena and I, when we were together.
14 Years before;
I laughed walking into the bathroom to see Gena bent over the side of the tub scrubbing Zoe’s head. I chuckled at my whiny three year old. Zoe smacked at Gena’s arms as Gena squealed out when Zoe dumped a cup of water all over her. I busted out laughing snapping a picture of it, “That was so cute.” I coo kneeling down to take over for Gena.
“Yeah, you weren’t the one defeated by a three year old.” Gena giggles wiping her arms and legs off.
I smile pecking Zoe’s forehead and finishing up her bath. I pulled the stopper out and helped Zoe out as Gena dried her off. I smiled brightly, “You know Gena,” I smile brightly when she looks over her shoulder at me. “I’m the luckiest guy in the wide world.” I tell her.
“That you are.” Gena smiles picking Zoe up and kissing my lips as she exits the bathroom with our daughter.
I smile brightly going over and cleaning up the towels and wash cloth from the bath. I toss them into the hamper and smile brightly.
“Zack.” I hear Zina call from the other side of the bathroom door.
I shake the thoughts from my head and clear my throat, “Yeah sis.” I holler.
“The principle is on the phone.” She sighs heavily.
I sigh heavily quickly getting dressed and opening the door up. I take the phone and lean back into the counter top. “Hello?” I ask.
“Is this Mr. Baker?”
“Yes it is.” I reply.
“I’m calling regarding your daughter, Zoe Baker.”
“Yes, and what has she done?” I question.
“She got into a fight with a teacher and a student.”
“Teacher and student?” I sigh heavily. “What is the punishment?” I question.
“Suspension till further notice.”
“Alright, thank you. I’ll be there shortly.” I tell the principle as I hang up and hand the phone to Zina.
She sighs as I shake my head, “What am I going to do? Zi, I fell like this is my fault. Me being on the road so much.” I tell my sister.
“Zack, it isn’t your fault. It’s more of Gena’s fault.” She shakes her head walking away.
I sigh heavily walking out of the bathroom and grabbing my stuff. I get my car keys and head for the school to pick Zoe up and talk with the principle. Praying to god they didn’t call Gena too.
