Animosity In The Ranks

Chapter 45

“Ooo, Bring It On and Labyrinth are totally doing numbers for my rock star status,” Jimmy said sarcastically as he held up the two movies you had picked out.

“Like Rocky Horror Picture Show and Benny and Joon are going to help any either,” you said as you held up his picks.

“That’s what you think,” Jimmy said as he handed over cash to the star stunned cashier to pay for the rentals

“I know so,” you replied as you handed over your cash to a just as star stunned cashier for all the goodies you were buying.

You had Jimmy had managed to pick up three boxes of special microwave movie popcorn, two large bags of M&M’s, one peanut and one regular, a bag of Twizzlers, a big bag of Sour Patch Kids, a box of Skittles and god knows how much chocolate. Add that to your movie choices and the fact that The Rev was getting all this it was a wonder the kids hadn’t keeled over yet. You were pretty sure Jimmy’s cashier kid had a death bat tattooed on the top of his hand near his wrist, and that Greg had done it months ago.

You thanked the still awe struck kids for everything and made your way back out to Jimmy’s car, goodies in hand.

“You would think that with all this crap and the 30 rack of beer in the trunk that we were throwing a party,” Jimmy said as he tossed the movies and one of the bags containing treats into the back seat.

“We are throwing a party. A Kales Mae and Jimmy party, the best kind that there is,” you said as you tossed your own items into the back with Jimmy’s.

“Darn tootin,” Jimmy said before he did his imitation of Johnny Depp’s character’s dance in Benny and Joon.

You burst out laughing and got into the car.

It was going to be a good ending to the day.
-xXx-
“More beer,” Jimmy said as he got up from the couch.

“More popcorn,” you said as you followed suit.

You and Jimmy had gone through Bring It On, the both of you saying just about every line in it, picking up the others slack when one of you faltered. By the point it ended Jimmy’s rock star status was just about non existent. You had also managed to watch Benny and Joon, during which Jimmy had to pause it so he could prove to you that he could very much so do Johnny Depp’s little dance in the movie better than he himself could. And you agreed, Johnny Depp had nothing on Jimmy.

You had changed into old ratty hole filled sweats with your favorite Avenged shirt, the one that was one of the very first they had ever screen printed way back in the day. And had surprised Jimmy with pajamas as well, and not just any old pajamas ones that were in fact HIS own from like a year or so ago.

“Beer good,” Jimmy said like a caveman as he brought out four more beers from the never ending supply in the fridge.

“Popped corn better,” you said back like a caveman, beating your chest like one for emphasize.

“Woman know nothing,” Jimmy grunted as took the beers and started walking out of the kitchen and back into the living room area.

“So says the man with the caveman neck,” you said as you threw some partially popped popcorn seeds at him, hitting him in the neck.

“And so he knows truth,” Jimmy grunted back, still acting like a caveman.

“What a dork,” you said as you emptied out the first bag of finished popcorn into the giant wooden bowl and started the second bag.
-xXx-
“That part at the end always makes me cry,” you said as you in fact wiped tears off your face.

You had ended up curled against Jimmy while you watched Labyrinth, he had his arm around your shoulder and the half empty bowl of popcorn was sitting on both your laps. The movie had just ended as you were wiping the tears off your face as they had liberally fell down it the entire time.

Sar-wah,” Jimmy said, sounding like Ludo.

Should you need us,” you said in your best imitation of Sir Didymus.

Yeah-es, should you need us. For anything at all,” Jimmy said sounding like Hoggle.

But I do need you Hoggle, all of you. Every now and again in my life, for no reason at all, I need you,” you said, wiping off the fresh tears that had fallen at the reenacting of the scene at the end that made you cry the most.

“I’ll always be here. We all will,” Jimmy said softly into the top of your head as he kissed it while you sniffled.

“I don’t know whether or not to take that as a blessing or as a thorn in my side,” you said as you straightened up.

“It’s a blessing hun, it really is,” Jimmy said as he cracked open another beer and handed it to you.

“I don’t know, I don’t think so,” you said as you took the offered beer, sniffing your last sniffle.

“Then tell me what you do know,” Jimmy said.

You had figured this was going to come about at some point and you were glad that it hadn’t come up earlier and ruined the bulk of your day together.

“What I do know is that I hate Zacky’s because he’s a stupid fucking bitch ridden ass sore. What I don’t know, uh, what I don’t know. Is,” you faltered, you weren’t sure how Jimmy was going to take the next part, it was hard enough admitting it to yourself.

“Yes?” Jimmy asked, urging you on softly to continue.

“Is, I don’t remember why totally I hate him. I only remember bits and pieces, and I really mean bits and pieces. And I know that what I do remember wasn’t the worst of it, it couldn’t be, it’s not on a scale big enough to make this between us. It was something else, something after the fact, that really dug the nail into the coffin that buried any chance of us ever being friends ever again,” you explained and then sighed at the end as you sat and waited for Jimmy’s disapproval.

Which would kill you, to have Jimmy’s disapproval, but you needed to get that off your chest. It was coming to be just as heavy as the hatred you carried around as well.

“Well I don’t know how much of a help I am going to be. Because all I remember was us all being angry and pissed that you were going to be going on a date. Somehow we had let a guy through our fingers, somehow he had persevered. And don’t be angry Kales, we just didn’t think anyone was good enough for you, we still don’t. Regardless of what comes out of Zacky’s garbage disposal he calls a mouth,” Jimmy said light heartedly.

“I remember that part. And I remember how when I answered the door when Josh rung the door bell Zacky came up and pulled my top and bra down, completely exposing me. I was only like what? Sixteen? I remember Josh laughing in my face and pointing, and I remember slamming the door in his face,” you said as you pulled through your memories.

“And then you slapped Zacky in the face and stormed off,” Jimmy added.

“Yeah. And then, and then it was the next day. I think he had come to say his piece or something and I don’t remember what it was. But whatever happened that day right then and there is what killed us, killed us inside as Matt likes to say,” you said, smiling when you remembered how your brother had acted at lunch earlier that day.

“Shads has a way words I guess. But I can’t help you out with what went on because I hadn't come over yet since I had gone home for the night for some reason. All I remember is that after that day things changed, and badly. All I know is that Zacky and you cared for each other deeply, you guys were as close as you and I were. If not even possibly closer back then. He stood up for you when we would stop, he always had your back. Hell even that night we was more angry then Matt and I were, he was pissed in fact. I had never seen him so angry. He really cared for you back then,” Jimmy said as he used the remote to change the DVD’s in the player.

“I think that’s it! Well part of it anyway, I think he mentioned something along those lines to me. I remember part of what the last thing I had said to him the day after, right after I had busted his nose and given him a shiner was something along the lines of no one will ever love you Zachary Baker. I think that’s when full names became a form of put down for the two of us too. I just don’t know why I had said that to him,” you said as you tried and tried to remember the rest.

“Well even without the rest that was pretty harsh Kales Mae,” Jimmy said in Zacky’s defense.

“I know, and I know that that wasn’t the worst of it, just part of it. But now, now I don’t care. I’m happy that I said it, because he deserved it I know that much. And it’s the truth. No. One. Will. Ever. Love. Zachary. Baker,” you said venomously, almost spitting every word out as you said them.

Notes

Ugh, the part where they quote the end of Labyrinth always makes me tear up.
That part of the movie always does it to me regardless.
But having Kales and Jimmy of all people sit there and quote it really does me in.
Le sigh.

At least she's finally telling Jimmy that she can't remember, and letting him in on what she does actually remember.
I wonder if Zacky remembers anything different?
