Fresh Starts.
Chapter Eight.
All throughout the evening and dinner our conversation flowed, and so did the alcohol. I tried to cut myself off, but Matt and Val refused to let me leave “We have plenty of rooms, you and the kids can crash here.” Matt said with a grin. “Everyone else is going to stay here anyway, and besides, we feel like you deserve to have a good time with your new family. You can borrow some of my clothes, and I know you brought extras for the kids.” Val said while pouring more wine into my glass. “Okay okay if you insist. Sheesh.” I said with a grin. “Let me know whenever you’re ready to put the kids down for the night, I’ll help you out and show you where to go” Brian offered. “Ok, thanks Bri, thanks Matt and Val. I haven’t had ‘adult time’ in so long, I’m excited “ I said with a smile. We finished dinner, and talked a little longer, until I noticed Cameron about to fall asleep in the middle of his dinosaurs. “Cam baby you ready for bed?” I asked as I picked him up. “Uh huh mama, I’m so bery tired” he said sleepily. “Come on B, I’ll help you. I’ll grab Madi” Brian said as he stood up from the couch.
I followed him up the stairs and into one of the bedrooms, luckily it had a king sized bed, and an adjoining bathroom. While I was getting Cameron changed, Brian was finding cartoons for him. We finally got him settled in, Disney Jr on the tv, and within seconds of laying down he was asleep. “That one was the easy one, you can go back down with everyone else if you want to.” I said with a smile, as I got Madelyn ready for bed. I gave her a bottle, and rocked her. While I was rocking her I sang to her softly “I know a girl, she puts the color inside of my world.” I continued to sing to her, not realizing that Brian had stopped walking out the door. Once she was asleep, I laid her down on the opposite side of the bed, and turned around. Brian was right in front of me in seconds. “I didn’t know you could sing” he said “I only sing in the car, and to the kids” I replied with a soft smile, “Cam loved it when he was a baby too.” He touched my cheek and said “You have got to be the most amazing woman I have ever met” and lowered his lips to mine. I wrapped my arms around his neck and returned the kiss. It was soft and sweet. We ended the kiss and he smiled down at me. “You ready to go back downstairs and have some fun?” “Yes sir. Lead the way!” I said with a grin.
Once we were back downstairs we sat around talking and drinking. Jimmy got the brilliant idea of a beer pong competition. Couples vs. Couples. “Have you ever played beer pong Brook?” He asked with a grin. “Oh Jimmy, I used to play all the time. You might want to watch out. I was a champ.” I replied with a smirk. “But I don’t drink the beer, Bri will have to drink it for me. I’ll drink some rum instead!” I said as we set the table up. I made myself a rum and coke, while Jimmy and Matt got the cups and beer. Jimmy and Leana vs. Johnny and Lacey were first. While they played Matt, Val, Brian, and I were talking. “Babe, we’re doing lunch and shopping on Friday after Christmas” Val said looking at Matt, “which you and the boys are going to have Cam, so B can relax and have a good time” “Oh man. That kid is awesome. You’re a great mom Brook, I’d be happy to watch him” Matt said with a huge smile. “Thank you, I do my best” I said with a smile, “it’s definitely not easy, but it’s totally worth it.” While we were talking Johnny and Lacey were losing big time to Jimmy and Leana. “Bri and I are playing the winner!” I shouted from the couch. “I gotta go get my iPod, and get in the zone so I can play” I said with a smirk. “I don’t need music, I’m always in the zone” Jimmy called to me. “We’ll see Sullivan, don’t cry if I kick your ass” I said with a laugh. I grabbed my iPod and went straight to their home theater system “here, you can hook it up to this” Matt said as he pointed to an adapter. “Yesssss. Music time!” I said excitedly. “Ohh, I really like her!” Leana said with a giggle “She’s fun Brian!” Val grinned. I turned my iPod on shuffle, and the very first song that played was Sexy and I Know It. “I LOVE THIS SONG!” Jimmy shouted as he completely stopped the game and started dancing around the kitchen, acting a fool. Leana, Val, Gena, and I joined in the crazy dancing, laughing the entire time while Matt, Zack, and Brian sitting on the couch laughing hysterically. Johnny just stood there shaking his head and said “Come on Rev, let’s finish this so I can lose and drink more” “I knew you were losing on purpose” Lacey said with a laugh.
Johnny and Lacey lost, and it was our turn to play Jimmy and Leana. “You ready Bri?” I asked with a grin, “I’m pretty good at this” “We’ll just see about that Miss Jones. The Rev is the man” Jimmy said, puffing out his chest. “Ok fine Jim, you guys go first.” Leana went first, and missed completely. Next was Jimmy’s turn, and he sank it in a cup. “Ha, suck on that!” he said with a laugh. I chuckled and Brian drank the beer. “You go first Bri.” I said handing him the ping pong ball. He sank the ball in a cup. “YESSSSSS” he said, throwing his fists in the air. My turn was next, I aimed for the cup that Brian shot his ball in, and threw. It landed in the cup next to it. “Dang. I missed” I said with a grin. We kept playing, Jimmy and I kept sinking the ping pong balls in the cups. Leana kept missing “I think I’m getting a little too drunk for this” she said with a laugh as she missed another cup. We played until both teams only had three cups left. It was our turn, and Brian shot and sank the ball in the cup in the front. “Okay, if I make it in the same cup as Bri, we win.” I said with a smile. I aimed for the front cup and threw the ball. It sank right in it. “YESSSSSSS” I said as I high-fived Brian, who had the biggest smile on his face. “Damnit. She won. Way to go Tiny!” Jimmy said with a laugh. “Tiny? What kind of a name is that?” I asked. “Well, you’re like the smallest person here, therefore you are my Tiny!” he said as he slung an arm over my shoulder. “Cheers to you Tiny” he said as he held up his cup. I clanked my glass with his and we drank. “Okay,” I said looking up at him, “you can be Brian’s partner. I’m gonna go check on my babies.” I said as I walked up the stairs. Once I made sure the kids were ok I headed back downstairs to watch a few more games of beer pong and to talk to the girls. “So, have you made up your mind yet? Are you going to give him a chance?” Gena asked “I think so. I realized how much I actually do like him tonight, and I’m ready to let myself be happy again.” I said with a smile while a chorus of “Yay!” came from the girls. I blushed and looked over at Brian, who was smiling at me.
After a while we were all pretty drunk. I decided to go to bed, since the kids would wake up early in the morning and I needed to get some rest. “Ok guys, I’m gonna hit the sack. My kiddos wake up early in the mornings.” I said with a yawn. “How about we all go to bed, and tomorrow we can go and pick up some Christmas decorations and let Cam help us pick out a tree.” Matt suggested. “He would love that” I smiled. “Come on, I’ll walk you upstairs” Brian said as he put an arm around my shoulders. We walked up the stairs and into my room. He gave me another completely amazing kiss and put his forehead against mine. “I’ll see you in the morning beautiful girl” he said while looking into my eyes. “You can stay in here with us if you want. There’s plenty of room in the bed.” I said shyly. “Okay, I will.” he smiled. I went into the bathroom to change into the shorts and tshirt that Val had loaned me. I quickly changed Madelyn’s diaper and fed her another bottle of formula. As soon as she was asleep I laid down with my arm around her, and Brian laid down behind me and wrapped his arm around me. He kissed the back of my neck and said “Goodnight Brook. I’m so glad you’re here.” I smiled to myself and said “Goodnight Bri. I’m glad I’m here too” and fell into a deep dreamless sleep, completely happy.
