Chapter Seven.
Saturday morning was spent in my pajamas, playing with Cam and Madelyn. After lunch I laid them down for their naps. While they were sleeping I was cleaning my kitchen and I realized that I completely forgot about one of the gifts I was going to buy Cam -- a little over a week before Christmas. “Shit shit shit” I said as I picked up my phone. “Hello Miss Jones, what can I do for you?” “Hey Bri, I totally need your help. I completely forgot about one of Cameron’s Christmas gifts.” I said, getting upset. “Hey it’s ok, don’t get all flustered about it. Just tell me what it is and I’ll help you out.” “Okay, so I want to get him a puppy.” “A puppy? What kind of puppy?” he questioned. “A pit bull. The only kind of dog he’s ever had. He loves big dogs, and I love pits. They’re the best dogs ever.” I gushed. “Okaaaaay, and what color pit bull are we talking about?” he asked, “Any color but brindle. I had a brindle one and she ran away. OH and it has to be male. I want to name him Bruce” I said, hearing him laugh on the other end. “okay, I’ll see what I can find. When do you want to get it?” “Well, I have nowhere to hide it, so if you find one I’ll talk to the seller about trying to get him on Christmas Eve or something.” I explained. “Sounds good, if they won’t work with you then you can always hide him out here. I’m sure my dog Pinkly won’t mind.” he offered. “Oh thank you! You’re the best Bri. Hey, I gotta go take a shower and get ready for the barbecue, would you like to come over so I can follow you to Matt’s place?” I asked. “I can definitely do that, I’ll be there by 2:30” he said, “Awesome, I’ll see you soon!” I said with a big grin. We disconnected and I went to shower. After my shower I did my hair and makeup, then dressed in my favorite ripped skinny jeans, a navy off-the-shoulder top, and my brown boots. I dressed Cam in a pair of jeans and a shirt with motorcycles all over it, and dressed Madelyn in an adorable little lime green dress and jeggings set. As I was putting Cam’s converse on his feet, Brian knocked on the door. Cam ran to the door and opened it “Brian!” he exclaimed as he hugged his legs. “Killa Cam! What’s up buddy” Brian said as he scooped my son up. The sight of those two together made my heart melt. Brian is so good with Cameron, and I really appreciated it. “You ready mom? You look great.” He said as he walked over to give me a hug. “Absolutely. Let me strap Madi in her seat and we can go” I said with a smile.
By the time we got to Matt’s house I was a bundle of nerves. What if the girls don’t like me? What if they thought I was just some fan girl that was trying to get Brian’s money? What if they don’t like my kids? My mind was racing as I got out of the car. “Hey, don’t look so nervous. It’s gonna be fine” Brian said as he walked over to my car. “I’m sorry. What if they don’t like me?” I asked nervously. “Don’t be crazy. They’re gonna love you. What’s not to love?” He said with a smirk and we walked toward the house. When we walked in the front door of Matt’s house my jaw dropped. “Oh my god, this place is gorgeous.” I said amazed. “Cameron, don’t touch anything” I said to my son as Brian laughed. “Come on,” he said as he took the baby carrier from me, “it’s gonna be great, let’s go meet the girls.” We walked to the kitchen, Cameron holding my hand tightly, and as soon as we walked into the room Jimmy says “Yay! She’s here!” and bounded over to give me a bone crushing hug. “Hey Jimmy, how are you?” I laughed as I hugged him back. “I’m fantastic. Is this Cameron? Hey little dude, my name is Jimmy.” He said as he knelt down and extended a hand out to my son. “Hi. I’m Cameron. I like dinosaurs” Cam said with a huge smile as he shook Jimmy’s hand. “I like dinosaurs too. My favorite is the t-rex. What’s your favorite?” “The t-rex!” he said as he growled like a dinosaur. I smiled down to them, then turned to the three four women in the kitchen. “Hi girls, I’m Brook. I suppose Brian isn’t going to introduce me.” I said with a smirk as I looked at Brian, who was hovering over Madelyn in her seat with Matt and Zack. “Oh shit” he said as his head snapped up “Sorry B, these are the girls. Lacey, Val, Leana, and Gena. Girls this is Brook.” He said as he pointed to each girl, who all said hi in return. “And this beautiful little girl,” he said as he brought the baby carrier in front of him, “Is miss Madelyn. Cutest baby in America.” He said with a big grin. All the girls rushed over and cooed to her “hello beautiful baby” Val said. “Would you like to hold her?” I asked her, “Really?” she grinned, I nodded and unbuckled her from her seat and placed her in Val‘s waiting arms. “Oh my gosh she’s so tiny!” She cooed. “Look Matt, she’s so beautiful” I grinned and looked at Brian, who was smiling back at me. “Do you girls want to go sit down in the living room? We could get to know Brook a little better.” Val suggested. “Sure, come on Cam baby, let’s go in the living room.” I said placing a hand on his shoulder. “Oh no,” Matt said, “We’ll keep an eye on him, you go relax and have girl talk.” “Okay” I smiled, “Thanks guys” I grinned as I walked into the living room with the girls.
Once we got into the living room Leana brought out a bottle of wine and poured each of us a glass. “So Jimmy tells me you’re from Georgia,” she says as she sat down, “and you moved to California to start over as a single mom?” She asked. “Yeah, my ex husband was verbally abusive. I wanted to get away from him, out from under his shadow. I moved here last week. I love it already.” I said with a smile “Brian and Zack have been great to me, the other guys as well. I’ll always appreciate what Zack has done by hiring me on at his company, and Brian has helped me so much.” I gushed. Gena smiled and said “Zack is very fond of you, he came home the day he hired you and said ‘I just met one of the strongest women I think I’ll ever meet’ and he went on to explain your situation to me. The guys didn’t tell us to gossip about you, they told us because they’ve noticed the change in Bri. We’ve all noticed it.” “It’s true,” Val said, “He’s much happier. I know he was married to my sister, but she did him wrong. None of us knew what was going on, she distanced herself from all of us. But now you’re here, and he’s happy again.” “Wow, I didn’t know I made that much of a difference,” I said nervously, “I really like him, but I’m so terrified of getting hurt. I don’t want Cameron to get attached, and then it not work out. Hurting him hurts me, and if Brian suddenly stopped coming around it would definitely hurt him.” I said. “I don’t think you have anything to worry about,” Gena spoke up, “he has been over here almost every night since he’s met you, asking Zack if you’ve said anything about him. He’s like a teenager who has his first crush” she giggled “it’s actually really cute. “ the girls all agreed. “I think you should go for it.” Val said and Leana nodded. “Me too, if you do then we will be seeing a whole lot more of you, which is really great!” I laughed at the girls, “You guys are like his wing women “ I said with a chuckle, “I’ll think about it. I mean I’m sure it’s bound to happen sooner or later” I said as I blushed. “You know what,” Lacey said, “We should all go out one day. Lunch and shopping. I’m sure the guys would love to watch Cameron for a few hours, and there are enough of us girls to help you out with Madelyn that you would be able to do your own shopping.” “That’s a great idea, I’d love to be able to get to know all you girls more. I haven’t had girlfriends in such a long time.” I said with a huge grin. “It’s settled then, the Friday after Christmas we will all go out and go for lunch and shopping, we can find outfits to wear for New Year’s Eve.” Val said with a huge smile on her face. “Come on girls, let’s go tell the guys and see if dinner is ready” she said and we all walked back into the kitchen to see the guys.
