Chapter Two.

I woke up the next morning with my alarm blaring. I quickly turned it off, not wanting to wake the kids, and hopped in the shower. After showering I dressed in a pair of black skinny jeans, a gray off-the-shoulder shirt, and my favorite pair of ankle boots. I dried and straightened my long dark hair, and applied some makeup. I woke Cam and got him ready for the day. While he was eating breakfast, my phone rang.

“Hello?” “Hey baby girl” said the voice on the other line. “Hey daddy, what’s up?” I asked. “I was just calling to see if you guys made it alright, and how you’ve settled in.” “We made it in pretty good time, Cam and Madi went right to sleep last night. We’re pretty much all settled, I just have to unpack my pictures and things.” “I’m glad. Has the asshole tried to call you?” He asked. “Nope, but I’m sure it won’t be long. He’s probably forgotten all about the fact that his children are on the west coast now.” I replied. “Well it’s his loss, hopefully you will meet someone and he will treat you way better than he did.” He said. “I hope so too daddy. Listen I gotta run, I have to get the baby dressed and take them to the daycare so I can find a job.” We said our goodbyes and I hung up, promising to call him tomorrow with an update.

Once we finally left the house I drove over to the center. It was on a busy part of Pacific Coast Highway, and a ton of people were walking down the street. I got Madi out first, then Cam. As we were about to step up onto the sidewalk, Cam walked right into a man. “Oh my gosh, I am so so sorry.” I said quickly. The man turned around and squatted down to Cam “You alright little man?” He asked. Cam nodded and took my hand again. The man stood up, and I looked into a pair of the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen. “It’s no big deal, as long as he’s okay. I’m Brian.” he said extending his hand. “Brook.” I replied, shaking his hand slightly. “This is Cameron.” I said pointing to my son. “And who is this beautiful little girl” he asked. “This is my daughter Madelyn.” I replied. “So I detect a southern accent, I’m guessing you aren’t from around here.” He said. “Nope, we just moved here yesterday from Georgia. I was dropping the kids off so I could go find a job. “ What kind of job are you looking for?” He asked. “Well, I’d really like to use my graphic design degree, but I have no idea where to start looking.” He gave me a huge grin and said “Well luckily for you I know exactly where you can go. Go ahead and get the kids inside and I’ll show you the way.” He said. “Okay, it will take just a few minutes, thank you so much!” I said as I hurried them inside, excited about the prospect of finding a new job already.
