I searched his face trying to see if he was being honest with me.
“Really?”
“Yes, if that’s what you want.” He replied sitting down on the couch and lighting a cigarette.
I stood there for a second and then went to sit on the bed. I watched as he took another drag off his cigarette and slowly blew it out.
“Why did you bring me here?” I quietly asked as I looked down and started to pick at my nails.
“Stop doing that.” He spoke after a moment.
I quickly folded my hands over my lap and looked away.
“I don’t know why.”
He played with the end of his cigarette in his hand and raised an eyebrow finally looking at me. He sat forward with his elbows on his knees and took another drag. My eyes met with his intense stare as he put out the smoke in his hand and I was laying back on the bed, my wrists pinned beneath his strong hands. I gasped as I hadn’t realized what happened until he did it.
“Do you really want to go?” He questioned with what looked like a sad look in his eyes.
I nodded and he sighed.
“Fine.”
And his mouth was on my neck and the life was being sucked out of me. My eyes fluttered and my entire body tingled. He withdrew his lips and looked at me. He starred at me coldly as he licked his lips removing the small trickle of my blood in the corner of his mouth.
As I started to pass out he spoke quietly.
“You will come back to me.”

Once again I awoke in a strange place, or so I thought. I opened my eyes to see my own room. My bed, my dresser, my closet, and my overflowing basket of laundry that desperately needed to be washed. I slowly say up and walked zombie like to the bathroom. I sure felt like one. My head spun and my legs were like jelly. I sat on the side of the tub trying to wake up. My eyes finally open fully I looked into the mirror. I still looked the same but I felt totally different. I couldn’t help but let my mind wander back to thoughts of him as I turned on the shower and stepped in. It was like it was a dream, like he was never there. But my memories and the throbbing place at the base of my neck told me otherwise. I didn’t know what to do with myself now. My memories went back his hansom face and kissing me. My heart fluttered a little in my chest by the thought of him.
I remembered how soft his eyes could be when he didn’t want my blood. When he did they were cold and unchanging. I remembered his face and the way his smile made me a little weak at the knees. My eyes popped open and I shook the thought out of my mind.
What are you, nuts??
I wasn’t going to let his seemingly caring smile waver me. I knew he was crazy. A vampire? Really? Come on. There was no such thing...
But I just couldn’t help myself. I couldn’t get him out of my mind. Then my mind went to Sam, and my boss. I’m sure they thought I was dead.
Shit. I sighed heavily at the thought of trying to explain to both of them where I had been for the past few days. I’m sure I had already lost my job and I’m sure Sam would want to know exactly everything that happened but I couldn’t tell her. I had to think of some other excuse for my absence. Maybe I should just avoid Alec altogether and just stop by Sam’s.
I shut the water off and step out, wrapping a towel around my body and going to the sink to brush my teeth.
I got dressed in some simple jeans and t shirt and grabbed my purse and step out into the sunlight.
Walking to Sam’s which was just about a block away, my mind reeled for an excuse to give her. I finally settled on I needed a break and I went back to Florida to visit my family and kept my phone shut off. Yeah, that would work.
I got to her apartment and gently knocked on the door. She quickly opened it and her mouth dropped.
“Cat! What the hell? Where have you been?!” she questioned, furiously.
“Hey, Sam. Look I’m sorry I didn’t call or reply to your messages but I went to Florida to visit my family. I just needed a break. I’m sorry if I worried you.” I smiled as convincingly as I could.
She smiled and hugged me tightly.
“Just please don’t do that again. You had me thinking you were dead.”
“I know, and I’m sorry.” I smiled as she released me.
“You know, you’ve lost your job. Alec was so pissed when you didn’t show.”
I nodded, “I figured. Do you think it would do any good trying to talk to him?”
“Eh, I don’t know. Probably not, but I guess you can give it a try.” She laughed.
“I guess I will.” I sighed.
“Well, I’ll try and call you later, ok?”
“Ok, be careful!” she hollered as I made my way down the steps of her building.
I kept walking and ‘Alec’s ‘ was in my view.
“Here goes nothing.” I mumbled to myself as I made my way to the front door.
