Watch You Crawl
Chapter 2
"Well here's your check. You guys have a good day." I smiled to my customers as i laid their check on the table and walked back behind the counter.
I breathed deeply and leaned against the counter.
"Hey Cat! Order up!" Alec shouted from the kitchen.
I sighed and got the food order from the window and made my way over the table.
"Steak rare?" i asked the man at the table in the back corner of the restaurant.
He nodded and starred at me. It seemed like forever before he smiled and broke his intense stare.
"Thank you."
"No problem. Anything else i can get you?"
He shook his head, "I'm good."
"Well if you need anything let me know." I smiled as friendly as i could. It had been a very long day here at 'Alec's' and I was more than ready to go home. I was exhausted and all I wanted to do was go home and collapse in my bed.
"Oh I will." He grinned.
"Smart ass.." I muttered to myself in my head. I had my fill of smart ass men in here today and i just wanted to leave already.
I walked back to the counter and laid my tray down and started filling the salt shakers. As i finished my mundane task I sat the tray of salt shakers under the counter and stretched my arms above my head and turned from side to side trying to loosen my very stiff back. I glanced in the corner and the man i was gone.
I walked quickly over the the table, afraid he may have skipped out on the check but i was surprised when i got to the table and there lay a hundred dollar bill. I smiled to myself.
"Well, that was generous."i mumbled.
I looked around for the man but he was nowhere to be found.
"Oh well." i said aloud.
I went to register and out the money in and took out my tip.
"Hey how'd you do tonight?" My friend Sam questioned. Sam was a very good friend of mine. We became friends when i moved here to Huntington Beach and starting working here. She was about as tall as me with ling brown hair, and big hazel eyes with thick brown lashes.
I smiled. "Pretty good. That weird guy in the corner gave my a massive tip."
She smiled."He must like you because every time he's been in here he hasn't gave my shit!"
"He's been in here before?"
"Yeah, a few times."
"Hmph, well I've never seen him in here."
"Oh well, at least you got a good tip." She laughed.
"Cat, you can go!" Alec, my boss hollered from the kitchen.
"Be safe kiddo!"
"Will do! Later!"
"When are you off, Sam?"
She glanced at her watch.
"Eh, about an hour." She smiled fakely.
I giggled.
"Well come by later if I'm not already dead."
She smiled."Alrighty, later chick."
I pulled my apron over my head and threw it in my locker, grabbed my jacket and purse and headed out the back. I walked down the street pulling on my jacket and slinging my purse over my shoulder. It was a bit chiller than it usually way tonight.
I yawned as i was about 2 blocks away from my house. I heard a rustle behind me and stopped. Nothing.
I raised an eyebrow and moved on.
I heard it again and looked behind me once again. Panic started to creep in.
"Get ahold of yourself. It's nothing. You're just tired and hearing things." I thought.
I kept going and for a third time i heard the rustle and then light footsteps. I didn't look back this time and kept going, picking up the pace a little.
"Just breathe. It's nothing. It's nothing." i told myself.
The footseps behind me got louder as if they were getting closer. I almost started running but i felt like that would be silly and if it really was nohting i would feel pretty stupid later or if someone saw me...
I finally made it to my building and was almost to the stairs when I felt arms around me. and i was quickly drug underneath an adjacent stairwell that wasn't very well lit. I started to scream but a hand went over my mouth and shoved me against the wall with enough force to knock the wind out of me.
I breathed deeply trying to calm myself but i couldn't. I had had no idea who was doing this to me. I thought i was being robbed.
"Open your eyes." A cool voice spoke to me.
I slowly did as they said and stood before was a somewhat familiar face. He was taller than me with short spiky dark hair and deep brown eyes.
It was the man from the corner off the diner.
My eyes widened and he smiled knowing I had recognized him finally.
"Don't make a sound." He spoke.
His deep brown eyes starred at me until i slowly nodded my head and he removed his hand from my mouth.
I breathed deeply once again trying to calm myself but it wasn't working. I had no idea what this guy was going to do. Had he been watching me at work? Has he followed me home before?
I starred back into his eyes. They had turned cold.
"Hi, remember me?" he smiled looking down at me.
I nodded and opened my mouth to speak but he cut me off.
"Cat, isn't it?"
I nodded slowly and he took a step back. My first thought was to run but my legs wouldn't move as he continued to stare at me in the eyes. It was as if those big brown eyes had some kind of hold on me.
"How am i going to get out of this?" i thought to myself as my mind reeled to find an exit.
"Don't even think about it." He mumbled as if reading my thoughts.
I pressed as far as i could up against the cold wall behind me until i couldn't anymore. I had not way of getting way. I was afraid to move anymore because i didn't know what he would do to me.
He slowly took a step towards me and i flinched. He chuckled to himself and stood there starring at me.
"You know it's not safe for a lady to walk to walk the streets alone at night. You never know what kind of psychos are out at this time of night."
