It Never Gets Any Easier
I sat at the table in the kitchen looking up at the clock that hung on the wall waiting for the right time to get up from my spot to make a breakfast for everyone. I decided just to get up and start it now. I grabbed everything I needed and started cooking. After a while of cooking, the smell was so appetizing and making my stomach growl in hunger like you wouldn’t believe. I got out enough plates from everyone just as my sister came through the doorway.
“You’re cooking this morning I see.”
“Yeah. I thought since I didn’t go back to sleep and I was getting things ready to take with us that I would just cook breakfast so you could get some extra sleep.” I said putting the eggs into a large bowl.
“Why don’t I come along? I mean I could cook and stuff.”
“Felicity, you have to stay here. You have to look over the property. Besides you’ll have the CB in case you need my help and someone has to watch over all the children and Dakota.” I said placing the food over the small table.
“Yeah I know. Are you leaving me the ring for the mines?”
“I made an extra one for you. Oh and before I forget.” I said putting my hand into my pocket and pulling out the necklace and bracelet I had gotten from the Wal-Mart. I put the items into her hand as she placed one of hers over her mouth.
“Oh my gosh…This is so beautiful.”
“Happy Birthday Felicity.” I said smiling and she wrapped her arms around me in a bone crushing hug. She handed me the necklace and I clasped it around her neck. She turned around giving me another long hug.
“Get you something to eat while I wake the ones who are coming with me.” I said leaving the kitchen and going back into the living room. I went over to Dante and Jacob first and told them about the food before going over to Avenged Sevenfold to wake them. They all got up and went into the kitchen with me where we stood eating the food.
“I’ve already put some things into the truck we will need.” I said as I put my plate into the sink. “You’re on the ball this morning aren’t you?”
“I didn’t get back to sleep last night…well early this morning so I just decided to get things ready so we could leave as soon as it’s light.” I said leaning against the counter.
“You do live by the be prepared motto.”
“Serenity is always prepared. It get scary at times.” Felicity said laughing. I shook my head at her and looked out the window as the sun was beginning to come over the horizon.
“You all done?” I said and they nodded. I motioned for them and I went into my bedroom and grabbed the bullet belts and wrapped them around me as well as grab the machine gun and the slinging the duffle bag over my shoulder. I led them down to the basement where they grabbed some rifles and shotguns.
“I have belts for each of you upstairs near the front door. They’re loaded down with grenades and extra bullets.” I said grabbing a sniper rifle with a strap. I strapped it to my back and grabbed some binoculars from the drawer before we went back up to the living room. I showed them where their belts were and they strapped them around themselves before we went into the garage.
I locked the garage door and pushed it up as well as deactivating the mines in the drive. We piled into truck and I pulled out pressing the button to close the garage door and when we got out on the road I activated the mines back. I followed the directions on the paper until I found the road that Dakota lived on. I pulled into her driveway and stopped when I got up to her garage. We got out of the truck with our weapons.
“Let’s check the house first to make sure he didn’t come back.” I said pulling my pistol out of its holster and going up to the front door. I twisted the knob before flinging it open with it drawn in front of me. I looked around as we entered the house but there was no one in sight.
“Jacoby, Dante, and I will check upstairs. You guys check down here. Radio me if it’s clear.” I said leading the way up the stairs with my weapon cocked. We got to the top of the stairs and again it was clear. I went into each room and every room we went too it was empty. I pulled my radio off my belt.
“It’s all clear upstairs. How’s everything down there?” I said looking around the room.
“Everything is clear.”
“Alright. We’ll be down in just a few minutes.” I said before clipping my radio back onto my belt. We left the room and went back downstairs where we met up with the others.
“We’ll go out and through the woods but make sure to radio if there is any trouble.” I said and we split up. I took Dante and Jacob with me as we went in the opposite direction of Avenged.
“What if we don’t find Dakota’s husband?”
“Or what if we find him as one of the dead?” Jacob asked as we stepped over fallen trees.
“We’ll find him but if he’s alive he’ll be happy to come with us but if he’s one of the undead…then I have no choice but to kill him.”
“What will happen to Dakota? She’ll have raise a new baby plus Dominyk all by herself?” Jacob asked and I stopped.
“She won’t be alone in raising her newborn or Dominyk. She will have all of us and if her husband does have to be killed…then I’ll take his wedding band to her.” I heard growls and when I looked behind me there were 5 Strays only 2 feet behind us. Luckily those dead weren’t Avenged but one was the husband of Dakota. Dante raised his weapon but I stopped him.
“I’ll handle them.” I said giving him my machine gun. I pulled both my long hunting knife out plus my knife with brass knuckles on it and held them in front of me as I cracked my neck.
“Come on you sons of bitches.” I said motioning for them. They got closer and reached out for me but I stabbed each of them in the head and kicking their bodies off of my knives. I dodged at their attempts to grab me and I stabbed each one in the head until they were truly dead. I stood over the corpses that lay before my feet. I looked down at the one Dakota was married too and I pulled off the wedding ring from its finger and placed it into my pocket. I unclipped my radio and called Avenged to come back to the truck so we could go home.
I know Dakota will take it hard but at least she’ll know that he’s in piece and she’ll have us to help her with the raising of both of her children. We reached the car where Matt and the others were waiting.
“Did you find him?”
“He’s dead.” I said getting into the truck and making the engine roar to life. Everyone piled in and I made the same route back to the house. I switched off the mines as I got close to the driveway and I sped up towards the garage and it opened. I turned around and backed into the garage and cut off the engine before shutting the door. I got out bringing the machine gun with me along with my sniper rifle and we entered the house. Dakota looked up at me with worry written all over her face.
“Where is he?” I put my hand into my pocket and pulled out his wedding band and placed it into her hand.
“I’m sorry Dakota but he was one of the dead. I just want you to know they we all will help you when the baby comes. We will be by your side the whole way helping you raise your unborn child and Dominyk.” I said patting her hand before walking away from her and going into my room. I mounted the machine gun back onto its stand and unwrapped myself of the belts of bullets. I sighed to myself before rubbing my hands across my face in frustration. It never gets any easier to kill even though the ones that are after the living are already dead.
